You mean I should use my Patreon perks??
I’d buy it for 50
You post consistently more than my water changes
Fr
If you have an good amount of plants you won’t need to worry..
i rarely water change i jus gotta bunch of plants
I feeeel....and so do my fish
My father does water changes for me 😎
I saw something great at a pet store that I thought you might enjoy. A petco near me had a giant tank with a few goldfish (not even close to being over crowded) and written on the tank was the minimum requirements for keeping a gold fish with a drawing of a bowl with an X over it.
My Petco has the same sort of drawing and some text that says "we need a 75g or bigger" or something like that.
Nice!
I love how he talks to us like we're all there with him. No other UA-camr does that. He's basically taking care of us like we're his children 🤣
Chris is great but a lot of UA-camrs do that, especially kid UA-camrs
@@Andy_Artsy So we're children then. Yep.
Im swearing all the time so i definitely dont want young children watching this LOL
Lol FFT is the Blues Clues of the aquarium hobby.
@@FishForThought Oh yeah, good point 😂
MOMM!!!! MY VIDEO GOT FEATURED ON THE FTR!!
ayyy!!
In terms of hardscape, a good piece of wood gets me going every time!
That you, Quagmire?
I just really love driftwood, as an artist who learned about the Fibonacci spiral at university level I am surprisingly bad at hardscaping and wood just has its own nice shapes, I can never get rocks to work. I only have stones in my tank as a wet fortress of solitude for one of my striped raphaels.
Wood is amazing!
The black water thing def happened to me, didn't realize i had to poor the water extremly slow at the start or have a different substrate to cap aquasoils
Me neither. I also rinsed the hell out of it and that... Was bad -u/ratofred
@@harlowdogdraws3373 but with the fluval stratum it says to rinse it but we all live and learn 😊
Found the thread with the neon tetra tank at the zoo. OP said it was at Chester zoo in the UK. If you don't feel like crossing the Atlantic, the zoo here in Pittsburgh also has a large neon tetra tank.
I think I've been there! And yeah, it was cooooooool.
ah cool cool
Happy to see the void tank on this channel. That was an iconic moment on the sub.
I was an iconic moment :') omg
1:16 this has happened with my tanks that are set on a timer, some guests were over and any time they were in my room the lights went off. I later told them my house was Haunted and they did believe me :D
lmao xD timers are supernatural
To avoid the ghosts you'll need to start a saltwater tank xD
0:41 don't worry, the water will settle in probably a..... year or so
LMAO
Tbh I just started over with black gravel and root tabs -u/ratofred
Another Monday made great with a fish tank review! Thank you for making top notch content!
Glad you like them!
In love watching ftr after setting up a new tank idk it makes me feel proud to be in the hobby. Also good work keep it up
Thanks! Will do!
Every week that passes the dreams I have for my tank increase tenfold
haha xD
Favorite hardscape materials are wood and rocks I find while hiking. Sure, all the stuff we can buy looks good. However, it doesn't look quite natural to me. I like the weathered look of sticks/logs and rocks. Last fall I found a huge piece to put in my new 75g. Sometimes I put my chainsaw in the back of my car when I go, just in case. There's also a local construction project that recently finished and I talked to the head construction guy a few months ago and he said if the pile of large rocks they're using is still there in the spring, I can have my pick. They were still there as of yesterday!!!! 😁
Actually forgot you had a Patreon, but just signed up. Thanks for the reminder!
This channel actually gave me the confidence to start getting into planted tanks. Just started a small snail and shrimp tank, with plans to scape a 20 gallon in the near-ish future. 5/5 content, keep it up!
Thank you so much!!
Lol that black water tank stand is for TV dinners. I got 2 😂😂
That black water tank is on an old TV dinner serving table... My grandma has a couple of them. Lol
My choice in hardscape boils down to how indecisive I am on which plants to use. A lot of times, I end up with a very messy Dutch style tank because I overplanted and there's no more space for hardscape.
I vibe with this!
I just learned how to hardscape, ngl I definitely need to learn more. bought ohko stone and did not realize how dirty it is, and even tho I knew better I tried to just put a big ass piece of dry spider wood in, it's a learning process
The first 20 seconds were the most chaotic in a long time. Love it.
This is freaky the guy with the black water is on the exact "table" I'm eating on right now 😂
My wife will NEVER know how much I've spent on my tanks and fish over the years. In fact, there was a meme you showed once where a guy was saying his biggest fear is that he ends up in a coma and his wife sells his fish for what he told her he paid and I never related to a meme more.
Favorite hardscape pieces? How do you make us choose, you monster?!?!?! I just set up a rack of 4 new tanks, each with a different hardscape. My favorite so far of those is the 20 long where I used a ton of 'black' lava rock, spiderwood and the substrate is 95% generic clay oil absorbent (which is very similar in color to the lava rock) with just a little black gravel mixed into the cap. The painted black background adds to the effect and the bright green crypts and dwarf hair grass really pop in there. Once the Cryptoheros Nanoluteus in there get their bright yellow colors, it's gonna be stunning. Also have a couple super red bristlenose in there, but everyone is under an inch, so their colors aren't really there yet.
ahahaha xD
I really like elephant stone cause it fits in every tank scape it also looks natural af.
such a cool stone but so expensive
@@FishForThought yes i know i got my hands on some but they are really hard to find some times
Thanks for making my Monday a whole lot better!
Nobody talking about the stand that the fish tank is on. Thats so sketchy 😂
This show elevates how I feel about my own tank!
YAYAYAY
I'm sick and this video made me feel a lot better. Thank you
You cracked me up. I worked at McDonald's when i was pregnant with my fist of my 2 young ladies. I always wanted nuggets for my employee meal and got the side eye cause I'd over fill the 10 piece 🤣
They threw me a baby shower with a buffet style arrangement ( nuggets a plenty!) for the employees and shockingly overwhelming amount of guests who attended. Honestly fond memories. The reason so many guests came is back then there were employees who only worked in the playland and hosted parties and Wednesday family nights. I gained a lot of regulars. So many thoughtful families made the shower really special. 23 years later i still have my pictures from then.
Cool story! Yeah, McD's gets a bad rap, and it should 😂😆 but it's a job everyone should have to do. Learn all about work, cooperate crap, customers... And I still have friends from working there over 25 years ago back in HS! I won't say it was awesome, but I'm glad I was there.
aw that's a nice story :)
Qotw: used to be lava rock and I still enjoy it but lately I’ve been into those smooth river stones from large to pebble.
ah yesh those are awesome!!
Me telling my family I’m excited because my $150 package is here:
Them: well what is it?
Me: uhhhhh,,, dead leaves and sticks?
lmaoooo
Your videos have inspired me to get fish of my own thank you so much ❤
QOTW: I don't keep fish, I keep frogs, so my favorite hardscape to use is ghost wood since it makes for very creative tree branch shapes
wew ghost wood sounds cool but ALSO SPOOOOKKKYYY
I'm watching your video at 5.35am from Inverness, you're like a very strong double caffeine shot...😊
Love the videos....🏴
Guess mountain dew tank can rest now lol
And I thought I had problems when I put Fluval shrimp soil in my first tank. I planted it and the water immediately turned gray high read the instructions, which say not to do anything let it settle down instead, I ended up with an entire aquarium full of biofilm. I don’t know whether it was adding the plants or if it was the fluval. Good luck buddy I hope it settles down and life goes on better. In the meantime, look for an antique dresser that is much more sturdy than your little tv tray. Because if you think it looks bad now, wait until it falls and breaks and pours all over the floor in your room.
i’ve been doin research about aquascaping for 2 years, and i think i will be able to get my first tank next year!!
Loved the billy talent reference
I've been binging FFT videos since I found this channel. I know which ones I've seen by liking them all. I may have forget a few but that's ok I'll rewatch them.
One hobby where it does matter if you're good at it or not. 😂
Watching these have made me fall in love with it all over again. I'm way more educated in them now after watching these videos and research. We had 2 Oscar's. We got on the day we brought my son home from the hospital. (We had just moved about 15 days prior.) My fiance took our daughter's to go pick out a couple fish. They picked an Oscar each. When we got them they were about 3 inches long. I'll be the first to admit I was not educated in them enough to own them! 😔 The previous owner left a 20 gal tank and said there wasn't any fish were in it. Of course you couldn't tell because you couldn't see thru it. So my fiance cleaned it a few days before I had our son and realized there was a pleco in it. The fish quickly grew quick, so we got the 50 gallon shortly after. Our daughters named the 2 Oscar's, Wanda and Cosmo. The pleco was named Timmy. (Fairly Odd Parents) the tank didn't have a lid and we found out that wasn't good as they made tidal waves out of the tank and close to the outlet. Then of course they got inspired from the Free Willy movie and would leap out of the water. We got lids and still had to put bricks on top of them because they hit it and water would come pouring out. The fish did really good together. Until the Oscar's got to the size of dinner plates. The pleco was about 7-8inches in length so we figured it would be ok. Well it wasn't. I was sitting on the couch feeding my son, I looked over and something looked off. I went over and realized one of the Oscar's had tried to swallow the pleco. I had to get a net and push the Oscar to the side if the tank (which if u know Oscar's WAS NOT AN EASY THING TO DO... THEY ARE SO STRONG WHEN THEIR THAT SIZE.) I finally got Wanda to the side of the tank and tried to get her to let go of Timmy. She eventually spit him out but it was too late. A out 4 days later she died to. Then we both said we didn't really know what we were doing and found a home for Cosmo. I had known the ppl for many yrs and they had an Oscar for yrs that was a little bit bigger then Cosmo. They had a 150 gal tank that would only have him in it. (They also had the most beautiful salt water tank and corals.) We gave away the tank, stand, canister filter etc.. we had a sunken ship ornamentthat was so big we couldn't put it in the 50 gal becausethere wouldn't of been room for the fish. It was 100$ alone. We should have kept it. So I def know how expensive a tank can be. I def don't want ornaments in the new one I want. I wish we hadn't got rid of the 50 gal tank. Because now I'm going to have to find another tank. I want at least a 50 gal. I want a natural planted one this time. Let it go for while before any type of fish is added. I'm def not getting Oscar's or goldfish.. goldfish are messy and they say Oscar's are also but that canister filter sid a great job keeping the tank clean. I just recently seen freshwater puffer fish, the Pea Puffers are adorable. I can't wait to learn more.
This has become apart of my weekly routine
Chris reference League of Legends, Christianity and Naruto within the first 10 minutes, never knew he would be this relatable
@6:05 Not sure as it's been a while since I've last visited, but Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium has a few really neat freshwater exhibits with common aquarium fish. Worth a visit if in the area, for sure.
Driftwood and small and medium river rocks are my current faves but I do have a tank with some petrified wood with an anubias currently in residence and I quite like it.
Oh wow. I'm actually watching this at release instead of the usual 2 days later
I don't have a fish tank and don't plan to get one but I love this channel. >_> It's just fun to learn about the hobby and see the beautiful aquascapes.
I love woodwork in general so driftwood has a special place in my heart, though I am trying to use more stones in my hard scapes. I also like to make unsettling things, so I have some ideas to make tanks that looks purposefully unreal, while still having lots of plants.
Texas Holy Rock is a favorite!
wqew
QOTW: mopani wood. I'm fairly new to this but it's easy to stick stuff to and it has nice curvy shapes
Hi Chris!! I love your channel!! You totoally got me into fishkeeping, and I have a 5 gallon planted tank and a betta :) her name is vicious
Thank you for all the entertainment and information you provide!!
Hey Chris I am bettas are my favorite. Thank you for your review! (Also I have updated my tank to include driftwood a different light a sponge filter crypts and lots of duckweed.)
yay woohoo!! but careful with duckweed xD
Yes very true haha
0:57 “Black as night, black as pitch, blacker than the most foulest witch!”
My favourite stone is granite because it's just outside, it has very intersting shapes and colours and it's FREEE
I just joined the cory gang. Got a group of Pygmy Corys and I’m already in love. Thank you for convincing me
Serious ptsd to when the substrate of my first planted tank turned the water orange for several days 😬😂
Driftwood. It just looks so natural to me
for hardscape i realy like the rounded river pebbles. safe for any fish with no sharp edges. could go the natural way. just tos em in. or make some cool tower pilars out of them.
I appreciate the billy talent. I don’t know anybody else that has ever heard of them.
But, Chirs, I watch everyone else's fish tanks so I don't have to anxiously tend to one of my own 😄
haha xD good strat
@@FishForThought I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been browsing for 10-30 gallon tanks to rescue a sweet Betta, though. I have a very persistent murdercat, though, and I'm afraid that it might not be a good thing for a Betta (even one who is safely secured and not accessible to said murdercat) to have to experience the constant attempts on its life.
Thought I loved the spider wood piece I found, but now dragon stone wins because my kuhli's love it. I see the noodles more than ever.
Qotd - definitely love dragon stone. Lots of texture.
And on that note, my husband will never learn just how much I spend on my tanks. NEVER.
Dragonstone, because I love tucking java ferns into the little holes
Darker than black season 3 "will never happen"
I’m loving the driftwoods myself
noice!
Bro the same thing happened with the tank being dark because I tried a new thing for my plants yesterday🤣
Personally I got fluval stratum'd
Favorite hardscape is spider wood currently
Top tier editing 😂😂😂
One of my friends just ghosted me I think, just found your channel and its kinda just keeping me okish through the night. I'm going to focus on my fish more, it's felt great doing it, taking a break from my stresses and just... fish.
I'm getting a Betta. I have a hut for it, 5 gallons, heater, flow controlled sponge filter, lid, thermometer, proper food, hammocks, duckweed, Java moss, lots of plants - not too much. And a light. He's going to have a nerite snail friend. I've done a lot of research, I hope it goes well. I have lots of medicine and supplies, and a qt tank set up. 10 gallon plastic bin. I also have some Ramshorn snails chilling because I noticed some eggs but I don't mind them lol. I am cleaning up after them though! Got a Master test kit, everything.
Lmfao! My black widow frontosa is named “Spooky” 😂
im runnin
4:39 got me good damn
My favorite, recently discovered hardscape is dragon wood. It's like dragon stone but lighter and cooler.
wow
Gotta say some nice eucalyptus driftwood is my fav hard scape
You need to run an aquascaping contest.
That black water tank looks like the toilet after tacobell
Bro had me dying😂
I love these videos man keep it up! But I will comment this till you do triops, the oldest species of animal and shrimp alive to this day.
FTR really do be helping me through Depression.
ayyy
Tank tour!!
Okay, yes, sticks and dirt break my bank now. It's pretty funny because my job is as an artist that makes beautiful wood cutting boards with designs on them. What do I spend my fun money on? Wood that's just chillin and as nature intended it, but it's absolutely pretty much half of what my crafted pieces cost. Hahahaha, I'm going crazy slipping down the fish abyss- that void tank.
Grandfather can't understand why I spend money on sticks and rocks for my tank when "there's sticks and rocks in the garden".
HEY!!! THATS MY TANK IN THE THUMBNAIL!!!! IM U/RATOFRED
Thank for being nice btw there was just driftwood in my black water tank but a lot of people were very mean. Turns out i didn't "cap" the substrate. I have the same 5 gal still, on my kitchen counter now, and it's beautifully planted with shrimp.
Didn't have a picture of my tank yet on my new phone so showed him featured on an old FTR, PetStore guy looked and said: "Oh, I love fish tank review"
Happened at my LFS in Belgium
omg that's crazy
Well I only have one tank but it has two rocks from my grandparents, both about 8" average diameter. One is petrified wood and the other white quartz. Happy memories
I Love Your FTR Reviews.... "Fish Trap...... Review..!" 🎣
ty!
My Betta fish loves his one floater that I got gifted by the previous owner, Every time I look in the tank he moved it somewhere else. Its a filterless tank so I know its not the current. Maybe its the endlers but I doubt it tbh. I gotta get him some more of this floater either way
ooo
I'm more worried about him using a TV dinner stand for am aquarium stand than I am hus substrate lol
My fav hardscape is probably dragon/okhu stone.
QFTW: unfortunately, there isnt much choice for hardscape in my area. And spider wood is the cheapest (and it breaks the bank) so yh. And i collect bsalt and elderly stone from the local mountains(its an awsome experience to be out in the saudi mountains🤣🤣) anyways, i can create some awsome scapes from elderly stones and spider wood. I prefer the chaotic jungle style scape.
(Dont tell my mom but ive spent 2k usd on aquascaping just one 15 gallon tank😅😅)
lmao hope she never sees this comment xD
Arguably the best fish UA-camr
omg
@@FishForThought OMG

My Asian Parents: Is it edible
HAHA
Not a fish keeper but I have anoles and they adore their lava rock
My favorite hardscape to use is sycamore branches, because I can get them for free. But someday I wish to use the expensive fancy rocks.
Fish tank time!!!
ayy
My favorite stone to use has to be dragon stone. I’ve only done two tanks, and the only stone I’ve used is dragon. I’ve been wanting to try seriyu stone though!!
This is excellent night shift entertainment… I don’t even own a fish.
Hi chirs!!
it startled me when the illuminati music played and your dirted tank light turned off
I'm more hung up on the use of a "one of four 20 dollar tv tray set" as a fish tank stand.
My favorite hardscape right now is spider wood. Dragon stone is a pain to clean. I wasn't able to pick the pieces of seiryu stone I have, but I like some of what I got. Other pieces have tool marks. Not a fan.
I love this content
