  • 11 baby bunnies!!! Wow, I wasn't expecting that!
    Down to the very important job of cleaning up after the birth. This will keep the babies healthy and help to keep predators away too.
    Be very careful not to move the babies too much.

    I have a question. My New Zealand doe had baby's last night and this morning I went to check on them to pull out any dead ones, but when I opened the hutch door to the nest she ran in there and started eating one. Idk if it was alive but is that normal?? I think I scared her?

    Okay but here’s the real question... what recipes do you use the rabbit meat in? I’m an aspiring chef and have been looking to expand my palette. Out of all the things I’ve eaten, somehow I’ve never gotten my mitts on rabbit. I’ve heard it’s delicious in stew... how else is it prepared?

    OH, LOVE that cage. Question: With that door so big, does it cause problems with doe falling out/buck chases/ or babies when older? I LOVE that access. Doe looks great for just delivered!! Also GREAT Idea to put a board in front of nest box, so many times doe has "missed" the nest box and had a baby just out of box. Simple love it!

    hi, i just started breeding rabbits and my doe had a litter of 7 last thursday. however, 3 of them died at 4 days old, but they were all in the nest. of the remaining 4, one had runny stool all over his back legs. did i introduce an infection by mistake? do you take any special precautions?

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  7 років тому

      ngufan ikojo The only thing you could do to do infection is keep the cage clean and make sure the straw bedding isn't mouldy. After that it's down to nature.

    Y’all ass hurt people in the comments talking about eating “cute bunnies” 😂 y’all probably eat “cute chickens” and “cute cows” too lmao. Just because in our culture we see rabbits as pets? Is that it? Because if someone from India saw you eating a cow they’d be horrified, cows are sacred. You need to stop bitchin about eating an animal just because it’s cute when you probably scarf down plenty of other animal meat in a day yourself. This is the reality of farming; accept it or get off the video

    I agree with your video. A lot of people say to wait to clean the box. And with some moms you can. I have one mom that leaves no signs of birth. But I have found blood and placenta and under formed babies and a dead baby with some of my moms. If I would have waited 7-10 days all the babies be dead from the stuff rotting.

    Hello, what a good channel you have.

  • @alanwilson2073
    @alanwilson2073 5 років тому +1

    I'da used a shallow sided soda box, thermal blanket in it, babies on the thermal blanket, not bothered with covering with the fur, just quick enough to change the box, babies back in the box, re-cover with the fur and done. The babies were already hopping and could have just as easily gone to the hard ground and been seriously injured or killed by a preventable accident. I raise Flemish Giants strictly as pets, no eating of rabbits in my house. I'm ok with other people raising meat rabbits for consumption though. My rabbits have a massive 18 square ft. of living space each to themselves and are spoiled rotten with fresh water, pellets, fresh grass and leafy greens.

      I moved to 4'x2' cages, but kept the wire floor. With large breeds wire floors are fine as the 1/2" holes allow pee and poop to drop through but do not affect the feet. The only problem I ever had with sore hocks was on a solid floor that the urine could not escape, but thank you for your opinion.

Our animals are not caged they have cute adobe houses in safe grass paddocks. They are friendly and part of the family. But we eat the babies when they are a good size. They are loved , cared for, and sacrificed with thanksgiving and respect. Vegans will never understand this, and that is their choice. We also raise Guinea pigs for meat which is traditional in Peru. Thank you for your thoughtful video. We also have chickens and Alpaca which they eat here also, although we havent tried that yet. we need more space for goats for milk , cheese and meat.

    As a bunny mom who keeps a rabbit as a pet this angers me so, so much that once you popped up in my recommendations I had to comment. I don't understand why in the world would you eat rabbits that barely have meat on them, just because we are on the top of the food chain doesn't mean we can devour any animal we can. We are capable of eating cats and dogs too, why don't we? Because it's unethical to eat our own pets. Rabbits are the 3rd most commonly adopted animals as pets, why is it ethical for you to eat them? Are cows, chickens, and fish not enough?

    But, they said it's not proper to touch bunnies with hands without clove. Like you touched those bunnies. According to what's Rabbits farmer said, Their mother can eat them all or refused to breastfeed them. When she inhale humanbeans odours. Which one can I follow? Because, Am a Rabbits farmer here in Nigeria 🇳🇬. Thanks.

      All I can say is that I interact with the rabbits every day, touching them, brushing, and scratching behind their ears. All things you would do with any domestic pet. If you show them that you are not a threat to them, then they will not act out negatively. Not once in my years of breeding have any of my does eaten their kittens.

      bunny moms only feed there babies once , maybe twice a day for a few minutes.. after which they like to go a distance away from the babies so as to protect them from predators...because the babies won't have a scent for several months, so if the mother leaves the babies alone they are safer than if she stays close to them as then the predator will smell her and find both her and the babies.

      Susanne Winslow 3oz of food per day per adult rabbit. You would also give hay or fresh grass/weeds too

      Old wives tale when it comes domestic rabbits. As long as you let your rabbits every day and they don't see you as a threat, this is never an issue.

    I think cleaning or changing their nest is bad idea as I did so, now my doe is not accepting its baby...I'm worried if they will die!!

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  5 років тому

      saujan karki I have never had a problem with cleaning out the nest. You'll only ever catch the doe in the nest twice a day to feed. Apart from that she'll ignore it.

    • @vickianderholt2746
      @vickianderholt2746 4 роки тому

      no, she's not ignoring it...she leaves the babies after feeding to protect them as they have no scent and cannot be found by predators whereas she does have a scent and the predator will find both her and the babies if she stays near them!!! Rabbit mothers are good mothers...they aren't ignoring their babies.........

  • @shoebfasih5042

    I thought if you touch the rabbit babies, the mother will reject them because of your scent. is that true?

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  6 років тому

      Shoeb Fasih Old wives tail. If you have daily contact with your rabbits, they won't find you a threat and therefore not a threat to her kittens.

      If the mother trusts you she will let you handle the babies and be ok with it. some mothers are less trusting, and some get very upset. Know your bunny and "listen" to her signs
