  • In this raising meat rabbits series we will be showing you everything from start to finish on raising your rabbits and making baby bunnies. #babybunnies #raisingrabbits #Meatrabbits
    There is a reason why we say, “breeds like a rabbit!” Rabbits are crazy fertile from a very young age. In our case of New Zealand White, we are talking 6 months for the Doe and 7 months for the buck.
    However, in order to ensure the best health of your rabbits, it is best to wait until they reach full body and reproductive maturity before breeding.
    You can try to breed your rabbits a little earlier, say 4.5-5 months but waiting is worth it - your rabbits will be much more productive, or perhaps “reproductive,” if you are patient and wait until they are ready!
    Hopefully this information will help anyone who, just like me, is starting their backyard homestead in the city.

    I've decided that I will donate one rabbit from each litter to the local 4H club.

      Elva Craig You can donate to local 4H club without exploiting, breeding and profiting from other species. Spay and neuter the rabbits. Find good job, work hard, be useful for society and be proud. Leave the animals alone... It's not your God damn right to do what ever you like. They are not yours, not vegetables or trinkets either. You choose to bring them in your home, they didn't. You have many alternatives, options and choices, they have none. There are already millions of domesticated "pets" in shelters, abandoned, used, abused, neglected and sick, desperately waiting to find good home. America alone kills/euthanizes 4,000,000 each year in shelters.

      SavageGebril Don't twist my words, it's counterproductive and foolish.The ONLY "ethical thing to do is to eat" vegetables, seeds, grains, fruits, nuts and roots. Don't know what exactly "ethical" is to you Sir/Mme, but in my books, eating the living souls, decaying bloody flesh, body parts, eggs and milk of other species, is far from "ethical". In FACT is cruel, selfish, barbaric, unnecessary, absurd, abominating, wrong, unnatural, disgusting, repulsive, outrageous, revolting and self - destructive too. If that's what you call "ethical", then you and your moral compass are totally out of whack. Do some home work before you type anything so foolish. I'll be kind and provide you with the best research, studies, links, videos, documentaries to understand, know and do better than this.
      Animal protein (eggs, fish, dairy, meat) is crippling the human digestive system, kidneys, liver... creating premature, deadly diseases such as cancer (prostate, brain, stomach, colon), heart disease, tumour, MS, Parkinson, osteoporosis, Alzheimer, diabetes, impotency, teeth, hair, vision loss and much more.
      80 Billion $ are invested in Canada, only to help Diabetes patients. Every 23 seconds somewhere in the world someone is diagnosed of breast cancer and every 69 seconds, someone dies from it. Of all the $ donated for research/animal testing only 15% goes to research on prevention and only 5% research on environmental causes of breast cancer. Between 2010 - 2014 the rate of strokes increased by 147% in the 35 - 39 age group. One in two Canadians will get cancer. Children are dying every day from diseases and is getting worst.
      "As far as eating is concerned, humans are the most stupid animals on planet. We kill billions of wild animals to protect the animals that we eat. We are destroying our environment to feed to the animals we eat. We spend more time, money and resources fattening up the animals that we eat, than we do feeding humans who are dying of hunger. The greatest irony is that after all the expenses of raising theses animals, we eat them; and they kill us slowly... And rather than recognize this madness, we torture and murder millions of other animals trying to find cures to diseases caused by eating animals in the first place" - Mike Anderson
      WHEN WE EAT, WEAR AND USE ANIMAL PRODUCTS ( FISH, MEAT, EGGS, DAIRY, SKINS (LEATHER), SILK, FUR) WE CREATE, ENCOURAGE, ALLOW AND PROMOTE DISEASES, HUNGER, POLLUTION, GLOBAL WARMING, DEFORESTATION AND VIOLENCE.
      Animal Agriculture is the worst polluter on planet earth!!!!! 74.5 % of global green house gases come from farm animals - more than from cars, trains and airplanes combined. 500 Million tonnes of manure each year nearly 28 times more than entire human population gross (U.S. alone). 65+ Billion Land animals are killed each year. We are only 7 billion. America alone can feed 10 billion people instead- each year. 80 % of the agricultural lands is used to rase and feed farm animals. Oceans are depleted thanks to overfishing. 195+ Million tonnes of fish is pulled every year for profits and 5 min. pallet pleasure. Unless your life is in immediate danger or are starving to death, you must not kill!!!!!

      +Robert Orozco Some females will only accept the male once then get aggressive. That's why you should always stay with them because they can really hurt each other when they fight. Palpate at 14 days and got that she took. I have a couple of female that take only once.

I let my does free range and they are only 4 months old. now I didn't see them mate but if he did will the does die from being too young? my Doe breeds are NZ white and a Californian. I know it really irresponsible of me for not having a more secure hutch but thought I did. anyways im scared I don't want to lose my rabbitsor buy new does, I really like the ones I have. so any experience or advice will be greatly appreciated thank you

      Chris Aguilar At 4 months they are capable of carrying young, it at least some will. it's the same with any species, some will mature faster than others. If they do carry, they are in no way in danger from the fetus inside them, unless the buck is a giant breed, then yes.

      @@bvegannow1936 you may be vegan and obviously have an issue with the killing of all animals, and that is your right. I hope you at least take note that he's taking his meat eating into his own hands. Any meat eater that I have ever come across that kills his own food has a greater appreciation for the animal, which means there is a LOT less waste, vs the person who has never even bothered to see what it takes to raise an animal for meat. Not to mention this isn't a commercial operations, so the animals aren't dirty or being kicked around or stabbed and prodded. Again, I'm not asking you to like this, just asking that you acknowledge he's taken it upon himself to be much more responsible as a meat eater. Hey there, I know this doesn't have anything to do with the breeding but I ve been thinking about raising meat rabbits simply because they are a much more efficient animal than larger livestock and take up much less room, they are healthier for consumption too.
    For a starter its safe to say have 1 buck, 2+does.
    It would be awesome if you'd be able to let me know about the things I d need to get started on raising them myself in the next year or so. Just want to make sure I m ready for it.

    • @FoodForThought.
      @FoodForThought.  8 років тому +1

      2 does and a buck is perfect to start with. The biggest decision you will need to make is how much rabbit meat do you want to eat per month/week. That will let you know how often you'll need to breed and how many does you can have. You will need a cage for each rabbit, then a separate cage for you growouts (kits that have been weaned from the doe). You'll need a water system (bowl, bottle, etc) and feeders. learn what plants are safe for rabbits as this will save you a lot of money on feed. I'd say watch my videos and you see what I went through over the last year since I started. I hope this is some help.

    • @ImaginaryFae

      MissDevil Rabbits are NOT "healthier for consumption" ! Who ever told you this is incompetent and a fool. Regardless of the species, eating any flesh and body parts (eggs, fish, meat, dairy) is nothing but self - destructive. - Animal protein (eggs, fish, dairy, meat) is crippling people's digestive system, kidneys, liver... creating premature, deadly diseases at any age, even babies. Animal products are the reason for the premature deadly diseases such as cancer (prostate, brain, stomach, prostate, colon), heart disease, birth defects (physical and mental) tumour, osteoporosis, alzheimer, diabetes, impotency and so on.
      80 Billion $ are invested in Canada, to help Diabetes patients only. Every 23 seconds somewhere in the world someone is diagnosed of breast cancer and every 69 seconds, someone dies from it. Of all the $ donated for research 15% goes to research on prevention and only 5% research on environmental causes of breast cancer. Between 2010 - 2014 the rate of strokes increased by 147% in the 35 - 39 age group. One in two Canadians will get cancer and is getting worst.

    Just as a helpful tip for anyone watching this:
    Rabbits should never be picked up from the nape like that. They're prey animals and the skin at the nape is not strong enough to hold the weight of a rabbit. It's extreamly painful for them. They're not like puppies, mother rabbits don't carry babies like that for that exact reason, they're not made to be manhandled. It's like someone picking you up from your baby toe. There are way easier and SAFER ways to be handling rabbits. Please be cautious

    • @WillowEagles
      @WillowEagles 5 років тому +3

      Often handling a rabbit like this is detremntal to their health. If the skin is pulled too often you could break skin, running risk of infections and spread of deseases. In this case, I'm sure you wouldn't want that around your breeding facility. This was very hard to watch.

      You're 100 percent correct. Do you really think this jerk cares? Look at the small cages they live in until they no longer serve a purpose. I think it's cruel. We had a bunny/ Rabbit as children, & the thought of killing then eating it turns my stomach. To me it's the equal of killing then eating our family dog, or cat. But people are selfish and place their wants ahead of whats right.
