The documentary “Wolf Hunting in Russia”, produced in 1910 by Pathé Frères (France) under the original title “Chasse aux Loups en Russie”, shows the real wolf hunting taking place in Russia a century ago.
The dogs that were used by the Russian nobility for such hunting were mostly the Russian wolfhounds Borzoi and also some English dogs of the Greyhound type.
The bunting party was divided into two contingents, one of which pursued the wolves on horseback with a set of dogs, whilst the individual members of the second party remained on the outskirts of the wood with the attacking dogs held in leash. These fearless dogs would spring at a wolf and bear him to the ground almost before their masters would reach the spot with lassos in their hands. Another second the wolf would be captured; a wedge is then forced between its teeth, and then it would be brought back, still living, together with other captives.
After a hundred years, our perception of this film has changed. “Back in the day, wolves were hated and routinely killed...now they are protected and encouraged to live in peace” (MartinHafer, the IMDB reviewer www.imdb.com/t....
Nevertheless, the film can help the future owners of Borzoi to learn the history and to understand the important characteristics of this wonderful dog breed.
Borzoi, the Russian wolfhound, is often considered as a glamour pet, accompanying celebrities, but in fact, it is a large, strong, and courageous hunting dog with a mighty bite force, that was initially bred to fight wolves.

Yep we forget what they were bred to do and when breed is an old breed they were obviously very good at their job. Look at Irish wolf hound and all the wolves left in Ireland

Yeah, the Irish Wolfhounds did their job too well. When the wolves were gone no one needed wolfhounds any more and the expense of feeding them outweighed the benefits of having them around. The breed was pretty much extinct until Captain George Augustus Graham set about recreating them

@@stopYmpersonatYngmYacCount bully them hell. Chase them down and kill them. Irish wolves were of a size of North American timber wolves and regularly hunted livestock and people this is why they started building their round walled areas around homes and towns and brought in they livestock at night and people were never out at night and if you didn’t have a wall around your farm or town you’d be loosing livestock and people regularly these were huge dangerous apex predators afraid of nothing they called it wolf island and invaders were turned away before they even came across the people because the wolves would go right into their camp and tents and take and eat one or two of them a night and any animals they had These wolves were hard core and huge so there was no bullying there was kill or be killed and wolfhounds did the job extremely well

Borzoi can be found with "red eyes". It is believed that “red eyes” is evidence that the greyhound had a wolf in its pedigree, so they have a wild anger in their blood. Many borzoi, which are used for hunting, remain quite ferocious and wayward, especially if they hunt a wolf (but this is already a rarity even in Russia). So yes, they are good hunters if they do it since puppy ages

Each Borzi grabs a piece of the wolf and pulls it in a different direction. I think the Borzi move through the snow better than the wolf with their long legs.

@@Razzy_D9111Bro this isn’t about which political ideology killed off the most animals species. This is just fact, as the Bolsheviks almost exterminated this dog breed because they were believed to be associated with the rich and aristocrats. Also you mentioning that capitalism is the cause for 70% of animals species extinction is stupid; like yeah, no shit it exists longer. I think that if the communist ideology existed for as long as capitalism, it also would cause the extinction of many species. Also just blaming it on a political ideology is stupid, as it is humanity itself that causes these extinctions.
