Worst Nurses Week gifts 2023, part 2 👩‍⚕️🤦🏼‍♀️

Every year the Nurses Week “appreciation gifts” become more and more insulting. Hostels Hospitals barely even recognize National Nurses Week anymore, choosing instead to lump it all together with Hospital Week. The fact is nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system. The “gifts” are purposely misogynistic, patronizing, and condescending. Healthcare organizations are sending clear messages that they do not value nurses.

Oh, my friend… not long enough ago, when I was a young resident rotating through the NICU, the nurse manager decided the best nurse’s week gift for her team was to leave a GIFT BASKET FILLED WITH TAMPONS AND PADS in the bathroom, with a big bow and a note saying “Happy Nurse Week!!!”
You couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried.

Yup. Our hospital did away with Nurses' Week around eight years ago. It's hospital week, now.
