      I just stop taking notes at that point and just listen, all those surgeries become "a shit load of surgeries" in my mind... and I make a mental note to read that chart first or last (for example if the pt has been there for 23 days they are most likely stable, but if its day 2-3 then I worry a bit more)

    • @ItsJordanfromyourgrave
      @ItsJordanfromyourgrave Рік тому

      Wouldn't they have their charting written or at least in the computer system... I would think thou you'd get most of the information they said through the pt.. but idk I'm just curious I start CNA classes in 2weeks

      I know right. Unless the story is really funny. I had a *brief* story during one report, which I told to describe how much a Psych patient I had as they kept eating the foam off their mouth swabs which I came to kind out could cause them a bowel obstruction so I had to take the mouth swabs away. 😂 The patient was not happy, needless to say.

      That's true, I have worked both shifts for several years. Most times day shift doctors and other personal are ready to ask a bunch of questions about the patient's status and having information ready to go helps hence day shift asking a bunch of questions. But I always feel more comfortable looking up these info myself anyways whether I'm day shift or night shift. But when working days sometimes it can be challenging trying to find all the answers to these questions when patients, families, other hospital personal keeps bugging you about this that and the other🤷🏽‍♀️

    I hated getting report from the "no changes" nurse. My shift usually was shf after they left. I would start out answering call light from all the patients who hadn't had pain medication all day now wanting medication right now. Fun times...I'm retired from nursing and sometimes I get nostalgic...then I quickly snap out of it. I gave report the way I wanted it given to me. I focused on what I thought they needed to know by giving them a written report to go with my verbal one because frankly sometimes you just wanted to run once you see your replacement has arrive.

    Hospital CNA with 6 years experience and 3rd-semester RN-in-training here. As the receiver, I like to read through my patients' charts before I get report. I'm jotting notes about the patient's diet, activity assist level, are they in isolation, do they use any assistive walking devices, are they on gtt (heparin or diltiazem), do I need to check their blood glucose, are they on supplemental oxygen, do they need an interpreter, and I like to read nurses' progressive notes from two previous shifts just so I get an idea about my patient. I'm also the "just give me the basics" since I read through their chart. Haha!!! As the report giver, I'm the detailed, but fast talker. I'm getting better at giving a report where I slow down and wait for them to finish writing whatever on their brain sheet. The ones that drive me crazy are the ones that say, "bed alarm on 3. 6 is good. 7 is good. 10 uses the commode. OK, you good?" LOL.

I’m like I put a line in and a foley, bu bye. Or bringing a pt from the ED to the floor. They be like. How do they ambulated? I’m like, before they came in on a stretcher with an unwitnessed fall and a bleed??? How’s there skin. I’m like; face and hands look good to me. By bye. Ain’t no time for skin checks in the ED. Lol

      I feel like that too. I hate the ones who don’t want report “I can just look it up”. No you can’t possibly think I charted 12 hours worth of knowledge. You know how often that dressing will need changed because there is a lot of drainage? You think I charted that the husband will try and mess with the monitor or IV pump? Oh yeah, what about the education you need to reinforce. Some things can’t be looked up. I don’t try and give a monologue on each patient but I do want to tell you some things. I don’t want to hear “Well I wasn’t told that in report!”

    I’m the fast one or the no changes 😂😂😂, hate the story tellers😂😂😂like give me highlights and call it a day ... Like knowing where the patient buys coffee is absolutely not relevant 😂😂😂. Good job nurse Blake , always on point!❤️

    I’m definitely a mix of the complainer and the “not ready”. Probably because I’m the “hot mess” throughout the day. I cannot STAND the storytellers it gives me anxiety, just get it done!!!

    Right on and hilarious!! I have worked in ER, NICU, Nursery, Pediatrics, elective surgery, L&D, Post partum, RN liaison for short stay and inpatient rehab, and workers compensation. so all of these areas tend to attract different personalities which has been amazing to see over my 13 years of nursing. yes I started out at age 20 and was questioned if I was seriously old enough to take care of the patients! LOL well yes ...yes I am and a matter of fact and this is my first IV start! ;) LOLOLOL Big heart, kill with kindness, dust it off, learn constantly, grow daily and focus on the good/positives ( easier said than done)! I have made life time friends and family in my nursing career and my coworkers are an extension of my family and I truly feel blessed and proud to be able to work as RN!!

    No changes girl here!
    Anything worth knowing is in the chart. Ya gotta read the h& p no matter what if u never had the person. The lab reports be in the lab tab. Vitals in the ....vitals tab. Bms in the bm tab. On and on

    Back in the day, we had to TAPE the Nurse Report. So, imagine, ALL of these voices on TAPE, with a healthy fear of the microphone. Shoot me, just shoot me. It was the WORST part of the whole day.

    I remembered when a student nurse was doing her placement in the surgical unit, who was assigned to one of my POD#1 patients with a right hip replacement. I circled the old bleeding area on the dressing, and I told her if the bleeding area was larger than I circled, please notify me as soon as possible. However, she never performed any head-to-toe assessment or any hourly monitoring until I was going to give the blood thinner. I got a new lab value of the hemoglobin, which was 67. Pre-op hemoglobin was 111, which reminded me to check whether the incision bleeding occurred or not. Oh, man, blood was soaked in the dressing and the fitting sheet. I was so annoyed and asked the student “Which year of the nursing program are you in?” She told me she was in Year Two. I replied” No wonder”. Then she was upset and complained to her group instructor. I immediately asked her help to turn the patient and put on a pressure dressing. The student told her instructor that the patient’s bleeding was not larger than 75% of the dressing😂😂😂. What do you mean? Do you mean to wait for the patient’s bleeding to cause shock then you take any actions? The instructor also requested a talk with me that I caused her student upset. Gosh! She stated she had more than 30 years experiences in Nursing whereas I was newly hired in my hospital. 😂😂😂 I was quite busy and told her to talk to the charge nurse. What a stupid thing she did was they even didn’t notify me the patient’s systolic pressure was consistent being lower than 90.
