This is by far the best air gun tuning video. Not just for the FX impact, but for any pcp air rifle in general. Thank you for all the time and effort you've put into this. Absolutely fantastic job!
I am REALLY new to air guns. I have been extremely confused about how the M3 works and the whole tune thing. This video is by far the best video I have come across. You did an excellent job explaining everything at a level I could understand. Thank you so much. I have watched it several times. Chances are you will never see this comment however, I thank you anyway.
Thank you, Steve. Just got my Fx mk3 in .35, and this has been very helpful, as with all your videos. Though the part that really got me and made me laugh was the cows messing with the camera, lol. I'm glad you included it. Keep up the great work!!!!!
This is the best tuning video on the internet. Following other people’s tunes and recommendations on the internet is hard as people have different twist rates and barrel lengths. Have tried loads of tunes, but tired your method and this is the best tune I have ever had. 5fps extreme spread, SD of 1.8. 875fps .22 25gn pellets (standard length barrel and twist).
That's the best video i have ever seen on here for tuning thank you so much for this i have just got a sniper 25 cal m3 and haven't been able to get out to tune it and i wasn't to sure were to start to now
I started with an FX Verminator .22 a few years ago, then added and Texan in .45.... then a Sidewinder in .25. I'm sorry to admit... I've never done anything scientific to them regarding tuning. I didn't realize it could even be done with such detail. I'm going to get the M4 Compact in .22 ( I like all the custom aftermarket parts. This video was excellent, and I can tell it took months to put together. After I finish this comment... I'm watching the first 30minute again. Thank you for your efforts.
I am going to reference this video for my next video - "A Guide to Controlling Coyote in Urban Environments" (with airguns of course) and on my blog which is the same topic. Thanks for producing the best in-depth educational videos on airguns.
loved the cows and the interviews at the end, fantastic video, when i upgrade from the dreamline i got after your review i’ll be sure to come back to this one !
Absolutely brilliant video! Masses of great info! I’m no target shooter, but really looking forward to taking delivery of my new FX King and now that I understand a little about it, get to tuning it! Slugs and hunting! Thank you.
Steve, I really enjoyed this video. You explain the tuning protocol in an excellent fashion. I recently purchased an FX Panthera, my first tunable PCP airgun, and did not know how to tune. Now, thanks to your information plus helpful information on Airgun Nation I now have an idea how to tune with a more scientific process. exactly what I was seeking! Thank you.
I just found your video on adjustments tuning guide highly appreciate it because that’s why I never bought an M3 couldn’t understand about the adjustments now it’s a lot better the way you did it
Really enjoyed the video! I think you should mention the importance of the pin probe adjustment for slugs. My buddies and I overlooked this and had nothing but problems for about a year, before we finally thought to check it. It is so important that the slug is seated properly in the barrel. Most probes from the factory will not push the slug in far enough, which will block the transfer port. Recipe for disaster! Seems simple, but when your focused on other things it’s easy to overlook.
Great video, after watching backed the VA back and now getting more shots out of my gun, that means more sky rats per fill and the accuracy has gone up
Hi Steve, I hope this message finds you well. Thanks again for putting together another video to help us aspiring air gunners. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by me and the community. I wanted to start by saying that I loved the two videos you did on the FX Maverick. Both the review and the tuning guide were done properly and concisely. Thanks to those videos and the shot chart guides, I now feel 100% confident in my ability to tune my FX Maverick for any pellet or slug within its reasonable tolerances, all without the need for a Slug Power Kit. I do have some feedback about the FX Impact video, which I'll provide in my next comment to keep this one short and focused.
Steve, your videos are the best! Ive been excited for this one since seeing some of the original instagram posts! Ill definitley watch this one again! Pure Gold!!!
Great video, very informative especially for the new FX customers... the gun remains a classic... by the way.. your real estate presentation skils are amazing... compared to previous videos, this really makes you feel like moving to Florida.. great vids!!
Thank you Steve for that great video and all the time and effort that you put into it, I am going to order an FX impact compact is the .22 the way to go, or will the .25 do equally well
Damn! This is the benchmark for doing an informative video, that makes a mother fucking hour fly by in a blink. With perfect video closeups of every related item, adjustments and exactly how they interact. Pro work brother!
Super video. Will watch it again and again to learn from you and the other air gunners, although I do not own an FX. I did notice dissimilar strategies by the contestants, yet, they shared similar VA setting(s). Thank you again. Best to you.
Great video-what range finder are you using with your scope to determine your 120 yd target? Also I’m a beginner, would you still recommend the Air Venturi Avenger or something else since it’s been on the market for sometime?
Thanks for the informative video! Would love to see a guide how to set up a lower powered airgun, like from 7.5 joule to 16 joule, some of us have legal limits to how much energy an airgun can have, and/or caliber , and it´s also fun to have a low power tune to use if you shoot at closer distance and dont need 50+ ft/lbs but rather have big shotcount, tthank you!
Regarding the FX Impact video, I don't think it was one of your best. 1. Most people don't shoot an Impact with a 500mm barrel; they usually have the 700mm or 600mm variant. Therefore, the tuning guides provided are only helpful to a subset of FX Impact owners. 2. It felt like you rushed through the tuning part, and in my opinion, the valve adjustment wasn't adequately covered. 3. Thanks to the work you did on the FX Maverick videos, I can reasonably use those shot charts to reverse engineer the tunes to work for the FX Impact. 4. At the beginning of the video, you mentioned covering the story of 11 custom tunes across 2 barrels, but we only got the story of the 500mm version. Again, I love your work. However, I would encourage you to consider making another FX Impact M3 video to better explain the valve adjustment, including the Macro and Micro Adjusters, as you did in your FX Maverick videos.
This came just in time as I am rebuilding my Gen 1 marauder. New balanced valve, regulator, hammer, TSS. Some great tuning advice would be appreciated.
Brilliant very helpful . A question if possible? Using a fx maverick tuning at the moment .any reason that I struggle with getting some pellets into the barrel slugs are fine . Pin probe .22 .
Getting ready to buy one of these for squirrel duty around my house. Shots get out to absolute max of 70 yards with 95% of shots inside 50 yards. Woukd you suggest the standard size or the compact? There will be many offhand shots at 40 yards and in which makes me lean for compact but I'm not sure the compact has enough juice for the rare 60 maybe 70 yard shot I'm suggesting
About to get my first pcp soon. I’ll have to watch this a few more times before it all sinks in 😜 so much to learn, a whole different playground than powders. Bookmarks would have been helpful, but I’m grateful for this deluge of information 🙏🫡 :edit: Oh hey 🤪 Your video description is phenomenal! And the time stamps are there. You’re friggin awesome!
It's the usual but the cows are new and ate down all the grass...I just normally don't show you the high end of the range where we practice with firearms either 🙂
Very informative great video, I watch video like this to nerd out. I don't actually own a M3 (although am aiming😂 to get one) and am in uk so sub12 but the info and knowledge is great. I do think what a couple of guys said about VA sounds good sense especially when mat duber said he turns until he gets a slight drop in speed. That would suggest the valve is only just using the optimum amount of air.
Hey steve when are we going to get more of your reviews? I miss seeing your reviews.. they were honest and full Of good information. If your a nerd like me you might also find them entertaining
You are the best airgun reviewer for sure love your reviews just want to know about fx impact regulator creep 3 to 8 bars need some help for that so far there is no fx UA-cam ever talk about this
Overnight creep seems pretty normal for the M3 and most all brands of Airguns for that matter... don't sweat it. Just clear with a few dry fires before you begin the day 👍
What if you have an unregulated Airgun? I have a 1st gen Benjamin Marauder. The preload adjustment seems the same but if max pressure is 3,000, do you tune hammer spring at 3000 or down in the middle of your pressure range? It also has a hammer stroke adjustment, how do you balance the stroke with the preload?
What a good video, very educational, I congratulate you!!! I have a question. I recently had an M3 and I am setting it up. It is true that when the M3 is well set up you should hear it clearly when the plenum fills with air or is it a myth? I ask you why I don't hear it and to be clear that I have to keep insisting on searching for those sounds or maybe it's not necessary.
Muito bom suas dicas de como regular e dar harmonia nos tiros da FX impact M3 Tenho uma aqui no Brasil e agora vai melhorar a eficiência da arma grato pelo vídeo.
(Steve if you could pin this comment it is an important clarification to my comments expressed in this video) Attention all RMAC and Pyramyd Cup registrants! This is super important and you NEED to do this! In competition, YOU DO NOT need that BC advantage of the Zan BR100s! What I meant to say is that everyone needs to be competing with .177 JSB 7.3 grain Diabolo Exact RS! Trust me, that will be your go to pellet especially in Utah. You can thank me later. LOL! Great video Steve!
The plenum valve regulator ! Without a chronograph you will be lost trying to find the number one reason your PCP may not be able to reach the potential of your particular air gun . Thanks Steve for all you do for beginners and refresher course for us old veterans ! ❤️ Also , a big thanks to the pro shooters willing to share their knowledge ! ❤️ On another subject and Maybe I have missed it . Studies done addressing moisture under high pressure . Filling your PCP with high pressure air . No fill will be consistently the same with the % of moisture you put in a bottle every time . Moisture causes corrosion and a buildup of water in a compressor and portable holding tank . How does it effect a regulator over time and its effectiveness and reliability ? How often should you release the pressure in your fill bottles to drain water ? Do they make a moisture meter for holding tanks to know the moisture content with each fill etc………
Interesting questions you bring up. I have had bottles apart to replace worn stem seals and its always been bone dry in there... and I live in the tropics, muggy Florida. About the regs, the ones we see being made in my FX factory tour video don't look to have any parts sensitive to water. Steve
@@AEAC Steve, Thank you for your answer . I make a point of putting my compressor in a climate controlled room with less than 50 % humidity with inline filters . However , I do go to friends houses where their compressors are in a garage that is open and when the pressure is released a lot of water comes out of the compressor relief valve . I can only assume some of the condensation gets through to the inside of a PCP and much more so if you don’t replace the filters . You are right about Florida having high humidity but in South Carolina it’s in the 80-90s during the Summer . It would be interesting to know the % of moisture in a bottle after it’s been charged . Some days you can really see the mist coming out of the barrel after a shot . By the way , I must say this again ! The interview you had with the pro shooters was superb !!! 👍👍
@Hot Chihuahua I too have had my compressor in a climate controlled room, with about 55% humidity, have run no desiccant filters for 7 years,, and things still stay dry for me. Just lately, I've got filters on my new compressor, the Alkin. I'm not.mad about it, lol 😊
Regarding the HS adjustment on FX guns. When lowering tension to achieve the FPS # you want.. do we adjust the macro (which is like 5 clicks on micro) or micro click by click, or say 2 clicks. Hopefully this question makes sense haha. With standard adjustment on a air gun via allen .. I typically go 1/4 turns.
They do the same thing so if you want to make big adjustments, say you are at 720 and your goal is 860 then you can use the macrowheel and when you get to 830 or so go up in small increments at a time using the microwheel:)
😂 I just left like 2 messages have anyone heard from tou, haven't seen any videos since January or early feb, I was looking forward to the new avenger x review 😅 I just feel it coming, hopefully 25cal bullpup i want 1...good video ,nice tuning guide
Haha, sorry been a busy boy 😊. ... your ears must have been burning on the Avenge X. Just tonight, Tyler texted me saying that they are close on it and will get one coming my way soon 🤓
Love your video's. I recently picked up an FX Panthera compact hunter in .22 and i have 15 tins of JSB 14.3 jumbo express that i need to burn up. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on settings to keep these around 800 fps. Im not sure how low i can go on the reg and hammer spring
Hello and thanks!! So this week, I'll be releasing the NAC video (Northeast Airgun Classic) and in it, there will be several Pro-Staff interviews in which they talk about their setups & tuning settings. It will be quite helpful to Panthera owners. Steve
I wouldn’t go below 70bars on the 2nd reg, just turn the hammer down until you get a little over desired velocity and then trim down with the valve adjuster. You can fly those pellets at 860, love them! You’ll have a ton of shots per fill😁
just came across this video, and its amazing. I have an Impact 2. quick question, during the process of balancing the hammerspring/reg pressure, what is your power wheel and VA set to?
If it were me, I'd follow the guidelines and instructions in this video regarding the VA. As for the Power Wheel (Hammer Spring), I'd follow those detailed instructions here within too 👍😊
Skout Epoch, FX -M3 or Avenge X. You need to provide info on these so people can decide on which one to purchase. Given the opportunity to buy one, which one?
Hi from the UK , I'm trying to get my M3 500mm to shoot to 960 fps 25.5gr zan . I've watched your vid and copied your tune for the 25gr close enough slug weight . could you advise of hammer weight , preload and spring length David
The teachings in this vid will show you exactly how to squeeze hard on that SD. Locate harmony as described within, follow all the steps to the letter, and you'll have a tight SD 👍😊
@@AEACthis has to be frustrating😂 spending months and months and literal buckets of lead to make a video where you explain something and then have people ask a question about the literal essence of the video😂 I applaud your patience Steve🫡
Hallo Steve. Great content. I would also like to see what you do with your gun when you get it out of the box. Of course we know you clean the barrel but what about the internals, do you clean them also ? I can understand also that this is a stock gun without any changed hammer right ?
Hi Steve, great work! I got my tune better than before following this guide with my maverick .22 compact, got es11 or es12 and STD Dev 3 within 50 shots but there were like 2 or 3 that were low fps that would mess up the es, any suggestions? or would you just leave that alone? thanks man!
I'd leave it alone. It probably won't affect accuracy enough to notice. That happens with bad pellets sometimes and can't be avoided unless you sort. Steve
@@AEAC Thanks!! Sorry I have another question, been tuning for 20.2 nsa slugs, got es9 or es10 dev3 at 905fps for like couple days, then all the sudden changes to around 885fps, not much changes in weather/temperature, have you or anyone here ever ran into this problem? thanks
@Andytn80 In mine, sometimes reg2 can move around by 1-2 bar with day to day weather. I have found that this can create the change you describe... even if the daily weather change seems minimal. Readjust r2 slightly or use the micro adjuster or both. Steve
This is by far the best air gun tuning video. Not just for the FX impact, but for any pcp air rifle in general.

I watched on Airgun101, twice, UA-cam once and will watch again. Great job. Watch out for that woman with the hammer.

I'm not.mad about it, lol 😊
steve you are the premier youtube video editor
OMG!!! 🎉❤ BEST VIDEO EVER!!! I have to watch it again, and I don't even have an M3! 😂😂
You need an M3 😊
@@KevinWood44 I know right? I have an M2 compact and have been wondering should I sell it and get the M3?
@@Hunttip Oh then just upgrade a few parts (power block, etc) no reason to drop $2k
I agree, I will need to refer to it. I can't wait to tune my rifles.
what is the portable shooting table you're using shown at 14 mins where you have the lab-radar ?
The best video ever ❤ thank you
a masterclass steve👍👍👍
Epic work, hats off 👌🏼
Hello again. Is your shooting place near Lower Green Swamp Nature Preserve? Cheers.
Really appreciate this video!!!👍🏻
Can u do some video with tuning with 800mm berral
Good tutorial! I learned a lot.
@@kims2r i mean when tuning it.
As for the Power Wheel (Hammer Spring), I'd follow those detailed instructions here within too 👍😊
hi there ,what scope do you recommend for the fx impact 4? thanks
Great video. Thanks so much, Steve. 👏
does that aftermarket 300cc bottle hold more air than the standard fx 480cc bottle?
Nope
Skout Epoch, FX -M3 or Avenge X. You need to provide info on these so people can decide on which one to purchase. Given the opportunity to buy one, which one?
Hi from the UK , I'm trying to get my M3 500mm to shoot to 960 fps 25.5gr zan . I've watched your vid and copied your tune for the 25gr close enough slug weight . could you advise of hammer weight , preload and spring length
David
Great presentation😊. Did you use the standard valve spring and hammer weight?
Yes, just whatever came in the gun. Steve
what moderator are you using with the FX Impact? Thanks.
Great video Steve!!! Question, How can I control (decrease) SD?
In my FX M3 22, 600 mm , 885 fps, I got a SD of 10.8.
If you ever feel like you have more guns than space, I am always happy to help you out!!
Hallo Steve. Great content. I would also like to see what you do with your gun when you get it out of the box. Of course we know you clean the barrel but what about the internals, do you clean them also ? I can understand also that this is a stock gun without any changed hammer right ?
Good questions, thanks. Gun is bone stock inside to include the hammer. All I do is clean the barrel when needed 👍
@@AEAC appreciate it, Steve . Thanks
Thanks for making another great pcp video! It made me appreciate my German springers even more.
Steve
