@joseortiz3582 You probably explained it wrong. You should have given them the quick simple version. That is... U.S.A bought the island from Spain. Puerto Ricans can Enter & Exit the USA as they see fit, Puerto Ricans can apply to jobs in USA as they please, Puerto Ricans can basically do almost everything a white men can do. They can become U.S. citizens any day they wake up an feel like doing so. Unlike other Latinos from other countries that have to prove so many things and basically be as impeccable as possible. And then there's a waiting period that takes many years or decades in some cases. In a few words, Puerto Ricans got it extremely good. They're not a U.S. state cause the choose not to be.
The expressions by some interviewees suggest that any changes to status would happen immediately, and that's by design to keep the people fearful of change. All options except the status quo would require an extended period of "decoupling" from the US. As such, any decision would take years to settle. The ensuing negotiations would provide an opportunity for, as much as possible, a smooth transition.
As a PR living in the states, I enjoy going back and fourth to the island. But unfortunately, we are not educated in school about our history of Puerto Rico. Now that I'm older I can see the pros/cons to becoming a state. I believe the choice is with the people of the island. With that, I would support Puerto Rico in its efforts and hope to retire and become a "real" Puerto Rican that lives on the island. I love PR and the older I become, the more I wish I was born in Aibonito with all my other family members. ❤
It wasn't a literal fight, that is referring to the independence movement from Spain that some Puerto Ricans develop at that time, and i say some, because most Puerto Ricans at that time were happy to be part of Spain , as they are now happy to be part of the US
I think that it’s fair to say this, it would make sense that Puerto Rico became a state. It would bring better education systems and job opportunities. Even at the point of bringing a better judicial and law enforcement system. We all enjoy the U.S. currency and perks they provide and honestly no one wants to stand up to say that, but at the same time no one wants to make the change down there. The U.S. does help but it takes effort to receive that help.
Puerto Rico doesn't need statehood because America is racist towards Puerto Rico for no reason. That's one and two. America has been ignoring Puerto Rico for 126 years after the Spanish American war it defeats the purpose of Puerto Rico to become a state. Lastly, Puerto Rico doesn't belong to America. Spain was the owner of Puerto Rico before America.
If the puerto rican gov had politicians that used the resources and the money given to the island for the purpose of which it was given for, then puerto Rico would be okay. They get money for roads and the roads don't get fixed well the people need to find out who took it.

The following video is entitled “The Boricuas’ Dilemma”. The fact of the matter is that our dilemma has been caused by the United States (US) brainwashing us. Most Boricuas believe that Boriken is a democracy, so they vote. We fight among ourselves about what our political status ought to be. Since a colony can’t be a democracy, the outcome of any colonial political elections will never be respected by the US Empire. Boricuas can’t understand that the United Nations (UN) has already determined that colonialism is a crime against humanity. Thus the UN has issued 42 resolutions demanding that the US immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. The US has consistently refused to comply with these resolutions, because it wants to maintain Boriken as its colony forever. If Boricuas ever do decolonize their minds, the 9 million Boricuas worldwide would engage in permanent resistance to force the US to comply with international law. Once we obtain our sovereignty, then our real political debate could be had to decide what kind of government we want. To do it now is to put the cart before the horse. Boricua’s dilemma is caused by brainwashing.
We are responsible for our choices! Congressmen Rob Bishop once told then Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi, "as me for independence, I'll give it to you tomorrow, because is an international right. In 10 years we will leave in Caserios and foreigners will owe everything...only WE can change and stop that. Abrazos
Puerto Rico would fail as a sovereign country. They should choose for themselves. Returning to a Spanish colony is a fantasy for many Puerto Ricans, but it will never happen. Sorry to the Christopher Columbus lovers. I hope they get their independence, if that's what the majority wants. My heart aches for the Puerto Ricans, but they support the gringos who have invaded and sterilized their women. Puerto Rico is better now than it was under Spain. Spain left Puerto Rico poor and miserable. I really wish them the very best.
Allow me to correct certain information. "Sovereign country" is what the Independence Party is seeking; there is nothing "sovereign" under the "Free Association".
they do not even know the history under Spanish rule. Sue Spain. get reparations for giving away land it did not belong to them & slavery of Taínos snd for importing slaves.

What status do you think is best for Puerto Rico? 🇵🇷
@justhere3794 Statehood isn't gonna do anything, though, because look at Hawaii, they thought statehood would help them financially or whatever the case is. In Hawaii, there is a lot of poverty and homelessness, and statehood is, in fact, a racist thing because most of the homeless or broke people are people who are fully Native Hawaiian or half Native Hawaiian.

@lizbethartemis4886 The nearest to Puerto Rico was in Santo Domingo founded in 1538, La Habana in 1726.
Are Puerto Ricans who live in the U.S. allowed to vote? I'm guessing not since none were interviewed.
yes. of course they can vote but only in mainland USA not when they live in PR.
@@justhere3794 Sorry, my question wasn't clear. I know Puerto Ricans can vote in the USA if they live there. But can Puerto Ricans vote in the referendums on the island about Puerto Rico's status if they are living in mainland USA?
@@owenh.2265 At least once they did. It might have been in the 90s. They had to have a birth certificate from PR.
Independence is the only path by arms and force if necessary.
Isn't Mexico running the electricity????
The U.S. Congress assigned $42 billion for electric infrastructure. Find out where the $ is. 😂😂😂
4:28 Lies. So many other countries use the US Dollar. Panama, Ecuador, Panama, etc
every where I’ve been w exception of England, people are always looking for the USA dollar.
What about Hawaii? Are they required to use US ships only?
Yes
They are part of the Union; yes, they are using US ships.
it is not US ships, a USA captain has to bring in the ship. Go to vessel traffic and look at all the international flag ships enter PR ports. Wow stop repeating without researching
Totalmente incompleto.
A lot of people no longer have a long attention span and if a video is longer than 15 minutes, they just don’t watch it.
I would like to go back to PR and ask around to many citizens to see what they think is best for PR and how would they propose to accomplish their mission.
What status do you think is best for Puerto Rico? 🇵🇷
Long live Puerto Rico USA forever from a born and raised Puerto Rican.

INDEPENDENCE!!!!!!
I want independence for Puerto Rico or for Spain to take back Puerto Rico.
independence. A tiny island? Really🙄😳
@ I agree.
@@Us_Puerto_Ricans_are_Hispanic No Spain... Every country deserve to be sovereign.

That sounds like a pretty good idea, but a very detailed agreement would have to be formed to protect Puerto Rico’s land and citizens. Don’t forget that the Spain of yesteryear no longer exists-It has been a member of the European Union since the mid ‘80s.
It seems very complicated indeed!
Juan Dalmau 2024
hipocrite - just like the other “Spanish only” but he graduated from Georgetown University, Yale and Oxford. 😂😂😂
First they said it was Ricky who held the help now it was US?
There is another choice...REUNIFY with Spain. It's a movement that's growing and I think we should take a look at it.
evidently, you have not read 400 years of history under Spanish rule. They blame USA - who gave them the first university. Wow - Spain did not open one university in 400 years.
Reunification with Spain is the path forward.
Hell no. They started the colonization of the island. But independence is the worst decision. 🇺🇸 will block trade to many of its allies and leave the few countries non allied to trade with and some of them dont have much to offer or are like cuba , venezuela and others with dictatorships

Dumb comment
Statehood 🇵🇷❤️🇺🇸
That's dumb because Puerto Rico doesn't belong to America. Spain was owning Puerto Rico before America. Also, America is racist towards Puerto Rico. That's one and two America has been ignoring Puerto Rico for 126 years. Voting for statehood is a waste of time. Think smarter.
What puertoricans needs to do is make a better choice of leaders. Stop voting for color or ancestry, not for a person that comes from the bottom and will have the best interest in mind. Whining won't fix the problem.
what’s worse - the singles. the leaders are the descendants of the Europeans in control in 1898 - the same families 😂😂😂
Don't make that one single mistake.
You can never turn back.

@@lizbethartemis4886I’m afraid you are right. It would be very complicated and potentially dangerous for Puerto Rico to change its status. If PR were to gain its independence, it would need some help in doing so. If the U.S. acted like a true big brother and truly wanted PR to succeed as an independent nation, then it might have a good chance…but when was the last time a country, like the U.S., ever did something so altruistic in nature?
