Great battles multiplayer buying guide: Maps with every pack are available to everyone regardless of how many or what packs you own. You will have access to for example the Normandy map even if you own just Battle of Stalingrad. What you'll lack are the aircraft and outside of custom missions all single player missions and careers for these maps tend to favour the vehicles available in the associated pack (there are exceptions, there is some crossover of specific vehicles across some maps) This means in multiplayer you can join any match as you will always have the map, but depending on how the vehicle options are setup you might not be able to spawn. Now by far the most popular vehicles in multiplayer are the later war vehicles. Combat Box one of the most popular maps almost exclusively runs in the 44-45 era vehicles and mostly the western Front. Meanwhile other servers might rotate between different era. There are also servers that just let you bring any plane. Which means it still favours late war planes as they are obviously much stronger planes then the early war planes. In timeline it goes Moscow Stalingrad Kuban Normandy Boddenplate Buying suggestion Via Steam You have to buy Stalingrad Buy just Boddenplate. Stalingrad planes are often treated as middle ground planes and show up in most eastern front servers with planes like the 109 F4 being treated as the baseline 109 available. So owning stalingrad means you will always be able to fly but you might not always be the most competitive, also for bombers on the german side the HE 111 and JU 88 are almost always available as options. Buying Boddenplate gives you access to all the top end aircraft which will often appear as options for servers on the western front, so the spitfire mk9, p51D, bf109 G14 and fw 190 A8 will be common appearances across the board. Via their official store and not steam Buy Battle of Kuban Buy Battle of Boddenplate Kuban will give you the best IL2 option, the best Yak option and bomber options for both the Germans (another HE 111 variant) and the allies (A20 which will appear pretty much on every server as an option) Boddenplate same as above. There is also Tank Crew (battle of Potenksha) and Flying Circus Volume 1-3 like the mainline games all the maps associated with both of these are available to any owner of the other Great Battles games. But without owning tank crew you can still use a panzer 3 and T34 in tank crew so you can try out the game mode without purchasing, in terms of multiplayer not a lot of maps support tank crew. The main server that offers both aircraft and tanks is the Finnish virtual pilots server but its population varies greatly. Flying Circus is exclusive ww1 planes, again you can see all the maps without purchasing. Volume 1 is primarily ww1 fighters in 1918 volume 2 is 1917 volume 3 is 1916/1917 So easiest is to own volume 1 and expand for own personal interest. Multicrew: You can join any plane, even ones you do not own as a gunner. This also applies to Tanks. You can join in a crew position on a tank without owning the tank in question. Players can lock their gunner positions to stop people joining them. So its considered rude to join someone's gunner position without telling them or even asking. but it does allow friends who might only own Battle of Stalingrad to try planes like the A20 or the me410 as a gunner There are no bombardier position in any of the planes, that role is covered by the player filling the role of pilot (even when planes had bombardiers, like the HE111) A key difference that IL cliffs of dover has highlighted for the upcomming B17 is that it will also offer multicrew but also a dedicated bombardier position.
Mate you better stop that dumb nitpicking: in Russian they'd normally pronounce "me" and "e-el":-) Il2 was designed by Sergei ILyushin. And 's' in "sturmovik" is actually pronounced as 'sh' 😂
The big difference, not mentioned is VR. Great Battles supports VR whereas Cliffs of Dover doesn't. It's a shame, because once you fly in VR it is very difficult to go back to flat screen.
Great video! I’ve just bought most of Great Battles DLC, and I’m super excited. I also own Cliffs of Dover, and this excited me even more! I’m also awaiting a set of VKB joysticks and control panel, and so watching this really hit the spot 😅

Great info, thanks!
Exactly what I need, thanks!
Glad to help!
Thx a lot!
I like the flight models much more in Cliffs of Dover.
Okay, I have to say it, it's I-L 2. You don't say "Me" 109, you say M-E 109, same goes for the IL-2.
Mate you better stop that dumb nitpicking: in Russian they'd normally pronounce "me" and "e-el":-) Il2 was designed by Sergei ILyushin. And 's' in "sturmovik" is actually pronounced as 'sh' 😂
Em ee
Saying "ill two" isn't that bad

Great explanation
Glad you think so!
