…'Macumba'? Sorry but this is not very precise! Imho the rhythmical pattern of this song is based on the Ijexá rhythm that is part of the bahian Candomblé rite. Candomblé and Macumba have to be separated - like Bahia and Rio have to - though they both derived from african religious traditions.

It's not completely wrong though. Usually we, Brazilians, call "macumba" all the religions with african roots. Sometimes in a derogatory way but not always. And Macumba means both "a musical instrument" and "magic" so it's indeed appropriate to call this kind of song this way. :)

Mandinga se refere a uma espécie de magia ou feitiçaria (dentro da religiosidade afrobrasileira). A palavra tem raíz nos negros islâmicos escravizados que foram forçadamente trazidos ao Brasil. Se refere ao povo "Mandinga", da atual região do Mali, Guiné e Senegal.
A parte que diz "Ele atirou a flecha" se refere ao Orixá Oxossi (divindade do Candomblé e Umbanda, com origens na religiosidade da Nigéria). Ele é um caçador, protetor da floresta, constantemente representado portando arco e flecha.
"Bodoque" é uma espécie de arco.
