    Been in the Kalashnikov game for twenty years now, my all time favorite variant is the Soviet era AKS-74. So my favorite stock is the left folding side folders, much love for both the steel triangle type and the AK-100 series polymer folders.
    My favorite right folding stocks are the Polish Beryl folding stocks, I sourced several of these stocks when they were available and have installed them on several different rifles. Those are by far my favorite “plug and play” AKM folders as I abhor the after market stocks that require you to permanently alter an imported rifle by cutting off the rear tang, BLASPHEMY!
    I do have a soft spot for the Romanian right folding push button wire folders as the SAR-1 was my first AK and it has sported one ever since the AWB sunset. LAV will hopefully have a video out on his East German MPi AKS-74 he found hiding in Century Arms’ bonded warehouse, that rifle is a rare beauty.

    Great video Misha.
    I have a variety of AKs now, and I think underfolders are underrated. Mine is a Romanian (kit build with the dong). I’m a tall guy, and with standard Warsaw length fixed stock shooting with iron sights is less than ideal. With the underfolder I can get down low enough / head in the right position to see the irons well. Maybe it’s the downward slope angle on the Romanian’s underfolder? Whatever the case, I love that one.

    I feel like the "tactical" polymer right folding stocks are the most stupid thing ever. They block the safety lever and sometimes even the line of travel of the reciprocating charging handle. There's no way one would be able to shoot the gun with the stock still folded, should the need to do so arise.
    The standard left folding stock of the AKS-74 and AK-74M seems like a much better solution to me. The dovetail allows the scope to be QD so there's not much problem with that anyways. And the new AK-12 has picattini rails so that makes the whole situation even better.

  • @thomasgoller7621

    I have a Romanian SAR1 side folder. It is my first AK. Originally when I was looking for an AK I did not want a folder because I'd heard from friends who have AKs that they aren't comfortable to shoot. But unfortunately I wasn't in a position to buy one until the US government decided to place an import ban on Russian guns. Wanted to get something like a Zastava M70 but couldn't find any. Found a guy I know in my hometown that had this SAR1 with the side folder for sale for 700 so I scooped it up and figured I'd just deal with it. Since then I've decided I'm over it and met another local guy who is an AK guru and has over 30 AK rifles and pistols. He told me that the one on my rifle can be switched out. Thinking of switching it for a fixed wood stock or a fixed aluminum triangle.

    The unders never attracted to me; they just look unsteady and uncomfortable. For reasons, I immediately got a sidefolder for my WASR, but the Tapco looked like it would break with a hard look. I soon stumbled across the CNC/Bonesteel right side folder which, AIUI, is a derivative of the FAL/Galil folder. It's a solid piece of gear, with a tight 'wedge' lockup, but I have a serious want on for a Romy wire stock!

    • @IQWhiteBear
      @IQWhiteBear 3 роки тому +1

      Yea i put the CNC Warrior/Bonesteel right side folder on my WBP Fox because it looks just like the side folding Beryl Polish stock, but I don't think they make one for export. Great sturdy stock with tight lockup, only thing I don't like is there's no push button release, you have to push the whole stock down, which isn't exactly the easiest to manipulate, especially when trying to move and shoot, but at least you only need to do that when unlocking it from the rear, not locking it to the rear from the folding position, so even though you can manipulate the charging handle when it's folded, it's super fast to lockup to the rear when you want to shoot. IE no buttons or levers to use, just slap it back and your ready to rock and roll.

      @@petesheppard1709 yea I used to do that too but now I've got some pipe insulation and that black ace bandage type wrap around it to create a nice cheek weld/riser to work with my Beryl rail and optic. @@randomperson-fr8ig Nope, actually there were underfolders in the original batch of 4 prototypes that Kalashnikov oversaw himself. A folding stock variant was always in the cards. In the USA Type 1 is the very commonly accepted name for the original stamped receiver. Type II was the first/early milled receiver, the one with the different cuts and rear section. Finally, Type III is your standard, mass-produced milled receiver gun. If you watch part 1 in this series, i go more into receivers there.
