I noticed a distinct lack of mouse ears or other disney properties throughout the gameplay parts.
You can tell that Sakurai’s expression throughout this direct was full with excitement. He’s really that happy that Sora is finally in and to conclude Smash with a bang. Thank you Sakurai

You've just observed Sora enter Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, ending the most ambitious crossover event in video game history, with beautifully orchestrated music, a heartfelt atmosphere, and the entire Smash cast lined up to see the final spark in the game's lifespan. A tear rolls down your cheek as you sit in awe, looking at Sora pick up his keyblade with a smile on his face, ready for battle.
And then Sakurai cuts in and yells out "EEEH?!?!" 6:29
At that point you go from crying with joy to crying with laughter!
I'd consider that some much needed comedic relief given the amount of emotion that just surged through your body in a matter of minutes

Sakurai said that demand for Sora being in Super Smash was taken note of [since the fighter ballot for Super Smash 3DS and Super Smash Wii U years ago].
Much of Sakurai's relief for Sora getting into Super Smash must be because they would've had to keep Sora's inclusion into Super Smash Ultimate a secret from the beginning of production, until the time for the final DLC reveal.
Keeping a secret for that much time is often not very easy.
That “i heard it can run on any computer” line made me so happy.

I may not have played or watched anybody play the Kingdom Hearts games but even as a watcher from the sidelines I can comprehend the absolutely legendary and colossal weight that this reveal trailer carries. Sora wasn't just a pipe dream, he was an impossibility. A one in a million chance of him getting into SSBU would be a generous ratio and we all have Sakurai and the entire Smash Bros team to thank for this gaming achievement. Characters like Ridley, Simon Belmont, and King K. Rool made us think that "any" character could make it into Smash Bros, as if bringing back all fighters from previous Smash games wasn't enough. But then fighters like Joker, Banjo and Kazooie, and Minecraft Steve were revealed and made us truly believe that ANY fighter could make it in. Sora is so significant because he doesn't just make us believe that any character can make it in, he PROVES it.
Beautifully said! He confirmed that ANY character can make it as long as they debuted in a video game first.
Only thing that makes me sad about this reveal is that Hikari being used in the announcement trailer but NOT being one of the songs we get with Sora.

Just rewatched this, and I only having one thing to say... when people think of fighting games, they normally think of Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Street Fighter, and ALL of these other majors fighting games. But none of them are more amazing and special than Smash Bros. This game, this franchise... went above and beyond to bring us characters from major games from major companies, and made our dreams become a reality. This game went and took the liberty to negotiate with major companies such as Microsoft, PlayStation, and FREAKING Disney, and gave us amazing characters. We live in a timeline where we can play as characters like Banjo, Sans, Cuphead, Steve, Doomguy, and now Sora, all in one game. Sure there have been some characters that people may not have liked, and those who will be upset that Waluigi is not a fighter, but you know what... this game is perfect either way. Because this game had one thing that most other fighting games may not have... ambition. Ambition to jump through major hurdles to give us an incredible game. And for that, I say... Thank You Masahiro Sakurai, for giving us a wonderful franchise.

I’m so glad that I voted for Sora in the Smash ballot. Didn’t know that Sakurai would actually go with putting the Smash ballot fighter as the final DLC character. What a way to end it Sakurai
I love that this trailer makes Sora’s appearance a celebration.
It starting with a reference to the first Smash Ultimate trailer but with everyone there and then the symbol dissipating with one flame falling on the ground. Then everyone is turned to statues when it goes dark but Mario is the only one reawakened by the fire. He slowly walks to it wondering what will happen then finally, after hesitating for a few seconds, thrusts his hand to it and launches it. Then when the spinning object is shown in slow motion you can see the end of it a little to make out what it is. The second after that it shows the Mickey keychain to remove any doubt who the final character is. It stays in midair shooting the keyhole beam releasing Sora into their world, awakening everyone else while the into music to the first Kingdom hearts game plays.
It’s so poetic that the most requested character ever for Smash Bros. is the final reveal for this game. Having every other character there to witness him coming in and bringing them all back to life is so epic. Sora is not only another game representative, he’s a Disney representative. Nintendo and Disney have now collaborated to make this game the most ambitious crossover in fiction. This one character means so much to so many people and Mr. Sakurai is legendary for making this happen. He knew that Sora would be the best choice for the final character in order to finish this game with a blaze of glory.?And it is the most glorious blaze I’ve ever seen. Disney, Square, HAL, Nintendo and the visionaries responsible for Smash Bros and Kingdom Hearts, Sakurai and Tetsuya Nomura, have made gaming history.

Ever since I played Brawl and KH2 during middle school, I naturally wanted Sora to be in Smash. It was a pipe dream that I never thought was actually possible, but in the back of my mind I always wished for. A year ago I had my "impossible" dream come true. 😢

Today marks the one year anniversary of Sora's release in Smash!
I am a huge Sora main. He has a decent moveset and neat character design. I remember doing a challenge of not touching another character, until Sora is my most played character, in which I did lol.
What a perfect character choice for Smash, even for a final one. Once again, thank you Masahiro Sakurai for making this amazing game.

To be fair, Sora's aerial abilities are quite impressive in the games. Like Sakurai said, it's in the name (Sora meaning Sky).

Smash Bros is one of the most amazing video games of all time to me. The music, the characters, the fun... This game manages not only to be my favorite fighting game, but also my favorite song playlist, my favorite story and more... Sora being the last character is the perfect ending for me. Thanks for everyone involved in the creation of this game, not only Sakurai, obviously, but the entire team of developers and artists behind this masterpiece!

Two years now, I cannot express enough how a literal dream of mine came true on that day. I was 16 when this released, and I’ve wanted Sora since I was 8. Just revisiting this makes me feel warm.

Since day 1, mario has been CONSTANTLY in danger. Hes been crushed, stabbed, blown up, disintegrated, etcetera.
But then theres Sora. Not only does he come in not wanting to kill mario, he ends the whole thing by shaking his hand.

Tomorrow marks the 1 year anniversary of one of the most legendary moments in all of gaming
Now I can have a match between Mario, Snake, Kazuya Mishima, Sora, Cuphead, the Doom Slayer, Sans, a Raving Rabbid, Joker, Pacman, Kirby, Cloud and Simon on the Dive to The Heart stage with Megalovania playing in the background.
The way Sora was revealed just gliding in was so well executed, it fits so nicely. Also that fight between Sora, Cloud and Sephiroth and both of them using their ults perfectly on each other was incredible and perfect. Super glad to have enjoyed that ride with Sakurai and all of you.

I know my comment is late, but I think it’s time to finally give Mr. Sakurai the respect he deserves. While I didn’t know anything about KH when Sora was announced, (all I knew was the meme of “story complicated”) I still respected the choice and was happy for Kingdom Hearts fans. Earlier this month, I bought the collection, and I now love KH 1 and 2 (Haven’t played 3 yet, and I didn’t play any of the games in between). I love the games, and love this reveal even more. The fact that it's been my childhood dream to see Sora fight alongside the fighters of Super Smash Bros like Mario or Kirby. A request I've always wanted since Brawl, 13 years of requesting for Sora, and even putting Sora's name on the Fighter Ballot. It truly made me emotional to see my childhood dream finally come true. All the verbal abuse from haters, naysayers, and toxic fans that have told me Sora would never happen, because of Disney, it was worth taking all the blows, as I can finally say that I was right for wanting Sora in the end, as Sakurai was able to do what everyone thought was impossible. I can finally say that I will forever main Sora once he is released in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Thank you Masahiro Sakurai, for making my childhood dream finally come true.
it's wonderful that sakurai ended smashbros with sora, makes me feel sad that this 22 year journey has ended, but smash bros will remain in our hearts.

This is definitely it for new Smash Bros characters, and games likely. Ultimate and the direct are a culimation of all Smash Bros content coming together to make the biggest crossover ever. I dont think it's good to try and mess with it
@@coolguyc4sey Exactly. It's highly unlikely that there will be any more Smash games (other than those cheap knockoffs) after Ultimate. Sora looks way too overpowered in the footage of Sakurai's explanation and demonstrating it.
We're forgetting that Ultimate sold over 20 million copies. There is definitely going to be another Smash game, with or without Sakurai, because Nintendo would be stupid to not cash in.
@RecoloredPoyo4 not sure about it bud, sakurai has had it rough the last decade, ever since brawl he was saying that that was gonna be the last smash game, he said the same on smash 4, so who knows if there’s gonna be another game, and even if there was, expect to wait for at least 4 years
I am extremely casual when it comes to Smash. I own a Switch, yet I don't even own the game. However, I have nothing but the utmost respect for this game, this series, what it represents, Sakurai, his team and all the people who have worked with them over the years.
When doing their summary towards the end of the video, my eyes welled up with tears as the point that they were trying to get across, and the significance of it all, was not lost on me. Respect, and thank you for all the magic all these years. 🙏🏾👊🏾

I'm gonna be honest: Before the reveal, I didn't want Sora, not knowing the difference between a Keyblade and a sword.
As I saw him, my worries were swept away. In fact, I went to my local retro game store and found Kingdom Hearts that day and tried it out. I loved it. While this wasn't the best reveal (Steve has that one beat by a mile), I can see why Sora was the number one pick.
I mean kingdom hearts us so confusing but once you get it it's an amazing game

@@mikekaty2558 yeah it’s true look up the story of kingdom hearts. TLDR the creators of KH saw the success of SM64 and wanted to make a game that good with characters as iconic as Mario, enter KH with Disney characters.
It's like with Sonic all over again. Initially Sonic was made to be a rival to Mario. And now they're friends. I love it.
