Schenker is so melodic and has incredible depth in his work. He has always set the bar so high for himself and others that are inspired by him. He leaves a lot of the fretboard masturbators in the dust.
There are so many fantastic guitarists on display here on UA-cam, and some are virtuosos. But I always come back to listen to Schenker play when I want a truly jaw dropping melodic solo. IMO no other Guitarist in history can make a guitar sing like he can.
ZeMPzo I feel the same way but I just keep plugging away at it. Any way my wife and kids and neighborhood likes my playing. I guess it's good enough. Thanks Michael for the jumpstart!!!!
at 60 yrs old, Micheals playing has brought that feeling since I first heard him in the 70's. I did'nt quit but, I am always still in awe watching him even things I've seen and heard 1000 times, He never gets old and always delivers that hair on your arms standing up especially when he's "lost" in total shred. It is why he's one of the Metal Gods if you will. long live Mr Schenker!!
AWESOME!!! Priceless video!! I love M and UFO. I'm 46 and teach guitar at a store with a lot of other younger teachers and they really have no appreciation for Michael Schenker. They just don't get it. He was way ahead of the curve in his hey day, but beyond that he's just so lyrical and gifted. He can make you cry and then slam you to the pavement all in one song. God bless him he's one of the all time greats. ROCK ON!!!!
Absolutely. I hate the timing that just when he was coming into his own as an iconic player, ...heeeer's Eddie! Kinda stole the thunder. If you were 46 15 yrs ago, you are a 62 model. 2 yrs older than me. Right in line with my Schenker and UFO loving pals. Some of whom are no longer with us.
@@MegaByrds Wow I didn’t expect to get a response 15 years later! Actually I’m a 61 model who’ll soon be be 62! And your right, all us older guys are the ones who love this era of playing and sadly some of us are not here anymore. I ran into a guy recently at a restaurant who was wearing a UFO t-shirt and immediately sparked up a conversation with him by saying, “Hey, UFO is my favorite band”. Good stuff! They certainly deserved more recognition but somehow I think it would have taken away from their appeal. Great, great band! Hang in there my brother and keep on rockin and pickin.
I have seen alot of talented guitarists in concert such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Van Halen, Eric Johnson etc and finally saw Michael Schenker 5 days ago. My life feels complete. What a show!!
Yup. Alot of clowns argue endlessly that Yngwie Malmsteen is the best at riffs, licks, speed, vibrato, technique, melody, composition etc. That`s simply not true. Schenker is one of the best at melody and composing solos that vary in tempo to fit the song and at making the guitar sing. YM can`t match that inate born with ability to make a guitar emote and sing. UFO should be in the rock n roll hall of fame
He’s one of greatest guitars ever to grace this earth. His sense of melody, rhythm, timing and feel is unbelievable! He is one of the reasons I was inspired to learn guitar and to listen to music….
KILLER tone! in his hands. Just one of the all-time greatest metal/rock guitarist. His influence on what would become THE archetype shredder tone/phrasing is second to none.
Thanks Axeflyer for posting all your excellent Video's of MSG and UFO all focusing on the brilliant Michael Schenker, we know where your heart is, you are one of us " the few, the proud and the loyal" Schenker Fanatics. Keep the vids rollin for us man, there the best.
I wish the Schenker brothers did more together. Rudy is my favorite rhythm player and Michael is one of my favorite shredders. These dudes are too cool.
Loved this video and seeing some of the old Schenker interviews. I've been a fan since the late 70's - back when I was knee high to a grasshopper and started playing guitar.
I have posted different versions mostly audio-tracks of this song, but this is the only live video of it but different singer, thnx 4 watching! MICHAEL SCHENKER [ SAVE YOURSELF ] LIVE.'97.
YEAH MAN! The king himself! This man and Gary Moore were the biggest influences on me as a player. And if you look at the date folks, 1980 - really even before the term shred was around. Michael Schenker is just amazing!! - Dannyjoe
Well said and of course Pure talent and hard rock soul, lets face it Michael is the Maestro, Mr. Virtuoso and no one comes close, he's a fucking Genius. Can't wait til he comes back around, got spoiled last year 2012, saw Michael twice and the Scorpions in between, thought i was in hard rock heaven. ( my freaking heroes ).
and hes really underated too!ive seen many polls about whos the best rock guitarest ,and he doesnt even place in the top 50!personally , i dont think theres anyone better.
I agree, why isn't Michael Schenker in the rock & roll hall of fame (living legend), why aren't the Scorpions and UFO in the rock & roll hall of fame, these are the guys that pioneered the way for hard rockers and metal since the 1970's. Vegas rocks gave michael the legendary guitarist of the year, Doug Alrich was freakin honored to award it to him, Marshall also gave Michael an award and they were all overdue, thank god someone notice.
@dwood16 He has always composed his own music & I've heard all his music released & unreleased & he is more than just a fast run inventor! He has a very large history of music under his belt that alot more only dream of achieve! maybe 'cause is not your favorite guitarist! He is my favorite & the best for me but we all got our own favorites!
seen him back in the 80's at the sun dome, was soooo excited to see him cuss he's one of my favorites, and they had him turned down so low you could hardley hear him, i was FRICK'N PISS'D !!!!!, but it was a good show.
Cheers for the vid - brought it all back that did! I'm pretty sure that from 3:00 on is from a guitar instructional video that was done in the 80's. I remember it being previewed on the Old Grey Whistle Test - of which I've got on tape somewhere. Brilliant stuff!
@btflash55 Your input is much appreciated,I don't even bother to read those polls anymore & you know what really gets to me? is that some people even make videos of top 10 or best guitarists & he is never mentioned, probably cos they never heard of him but I like all the MSG stuff that is now on youtube, back in 2006 ,they hardly had anything back then,so that is very comforting to see, Cheers mate!
He bends the strings 1 from top goes over the second & places the strings like a left hand guitar ,he does the same at begining of Lost Horizon live version not this one but the same chime! GENIUS
It's called Lost Horizon from his debut MSG album,1980. I have posted about 9 live & audio-track versions, this is 1 of them: MICHAEL SCHENKER [ LOST HORIZON ] [I] LIVE 1984.
i saw one poll that had the guitarest from red hot chili peppers, john frusciante in the top five all -time!i stopped reading the polls after that!just an aside, i met michael schenker in 1995 in new york at the limelight and he was a very nice, quiet ,down to earth guy.
Big secret to his clear cutting tone is real simple gear. Stock Gibson (stock pickups-not high output), a wah, then straight into a 50w Marshall. Delay on occasion.
Michael inspired me when I was a teen guitarist (now I'm much older). I've gotten into many, more current axe slingers. But, when I return to listen to Michael, all I can say is DAAAAAAAAMNNNN! His sense of melody in soloing is second to none. Michael IS "The Mad Axeman!"
@dwood16 well that's the thing,he is not known as a Shredder,Rhoads was influenced by him, I would say he is under rated ,seems like he never got the credit he deserved while others that learn from his style get more than they deserved! He is a Melodic rock player!
I share the same feeling, thnx for your comment,I don't even bother to check the polls anymore,it pisses me off when I see who's names are on as the best guitarists!
That has become my bedtime pray for a long time,I.m still keeping the faith on it, have you checked your inbox,I replied to your question!thnx for your comment Ray !
OMG Schenker is the Maestro, Mr. Virtuoso himself. Nobody comes close, SCHENKER is chaneled in. Michael said it " there it went and here i am". Badass FTR.
The old part of an interview that starts at 3:12 iws part of a documentary, and they had other guitarist (Wood) commenting,I don't know who the guy is at 8:00 but I know is a known guitarist, somebody told me his name years ago but I forgot,I'm sure there are videos of him on youtube!
Axe I'm sure you can tell me the real story about What happened to this Historical guitar! It belongs in the Rock Icon Archives somewhere!! I Just scored the Dean Sckenk Retro model so now I've got V mania. I just gotta get used to that big ass flyswatter headstock! Gibson were GOOBERS not to recognize Michael with a signature series. I for one would have payed some G's to own one! Thanks again for all you do!
I doubt it very much that anybody has posted it,I think that footage is from one of the shows from Japan,(One night at Budokan,ERA) thnx for watching,if I happen to be so lucky to run into that footage I'll let you know!my apology for mistakenly clicking on the poor comment instead of the good comment!
I like when the interviewer says " anything else" and Schenker laughs and then blazes into some smokin lead riffs, after that i think the interviewer shit his pants and said " thankyou " the part they left out was when the interviewer said " i have to go change my shorts now ". Schenker is the GOD of all guitar. FTR excluding Rudolph and Mathias, man i'm so bias. Amen
you ovbiously did not read the comments in order but no problem: jlevyx asked what song at 1:28 that's save yourself & mestretolkien asked what song at 4:20 & that was Lost Horizon,I know all the Schenker songs ,but thnx for your comment!
He is the pure embodiment of the Arena Rock / Melodic Rock with tasty solos and memorable riffs.
Schenker is so melodic and has incredible depth in his work. He has always set the bar so high for himself and others that are inspired by him. He leaves a lot of the fretboard masturbators in the dust.
Schenker was born to play guitar solos, he's a natural improviser. I'm glad that this footage exists.
There are so many fantastic guitarists on display here on UA-cam, and some are virtuosos. But I always come back to listen to Schenker play when I want a truly jaw dropping melodic solo. IMO no other Guitarist in history can make a guitar sing like he can.
My favourite guitarist of all time. My inspiration to pick up a guitar and learn to play.
He is one of the guitarists out there that, after I watched him play, I don't know whether to go practice or just quit.
ZeMPzo I feel the same way but I just keep plugging away at it. Any way my wife and kids and neighborhood likes my playing. I guess it's good enough. Thanks Michael for the jumpstart!!!!

I had the great honor of opening up for him in 2010 at the Starland Ballroom

I have been a Schenker fan for over 25 years. The first time I showed my girlfriend some of his stuff she kept saying "My God". I sat and smiled.
This man inspired me so much, his grove and vibrato is what makes him different to other players. It's so sweet..
I have seen alot of talented guitarists in concert such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Van Halen, Eric Johnson etc and finally saw Michael Schenker 5 days ago. My life feels complete. What a show!!

I think your talking out your own rear.
@WhatSideOfTheBed DidYouWakeUpOn
That`s the thing, does one prefer noodling or a more organic style.
The best ever Mr. Michael Schenker 🌟🤗👍💙🙏✨
MSchenker has always set the standards, this is why he is considered the Maestro.
Most people talk about his solos, for me his rythm plaing are amazing what a genius
One of the great originals!
Thanks for posting it!!!
The greatest rock guitarist of an entire generation. Period
Totally agree, I see him every chance I get.
Probably of all time. Hendrix is the only other player in the same league in my view.
マイケルの guitarフライングブイは彼の心臓、 熱く生き付いている!
Those bits and licks from Save Yourself are orgasmic. So melodic and jaw-dropping at the same time
One of the greatest guitarists ever - his note choice is what amazes me as well as his spontaneity. He is incredible!
He is one of the greatest. That solo on Love to Love...man that just blows my mind!
My fave solo too, on Strangers of course.
He’s one of greatest guitars ever to grace this earth. His sense of melody, rhythm, timing and feel is unbelievable! He is one of the reasons I was inspired to learn guitar and to listen to music….
Couldn't avoid to write comment #200 :) Super great Michael! Amazing tone coming from those fingers
KILLER tone! in his hands. Just one of the all-time greatest metal/rock guitarist. His influence on what would become THE archetype shredder tone/phrasing is second to none.
When Michael's on form. there's no one better..
The last few minutes with the solo for Lost Horizons is absolutely mind blowing. Holy shit.
yea, that shit is intense +original.
Schenker is the Master!
When he's right, nobody can touch him.
He's the BEST...period.
his smooth right hand attack on the strings is just unearthly..
Effortless playing from Michael. I believe he could play for 24 hours straight without stopping...
He actually did and ended up in an asylum 💯 facts

Awesome guitarist. One of my all time faves. When I first heard "Too Hot To Handle" back in 1977, I became an instant fan of Michael Schenker.
so fucking tasteful !! he is a monster guitar player , and friendly guy too. he gave me some legato tips that really helped me out as well .
Loved this video and seeing some of the old Schenker interviews. I've been a fan since the late 70's - back when I was knee high to a grasshopper and started playing guitar.
Igualmente mano,te cuidas y gracias por la visita a la pagina del Maestro Schenker!
a million guitarists can copy his playing...but none can compose riffs and solos like he does..he is god..
Michael Schenker ist mein Idol hoffe, er kommt irgendwann nach Schweden!
This is jaw-dropping! That awesome precision and sound in the same package.
I think he is among the 10 best guitarists of all time

In 'Guitar Heroes' u.k. magazine from 1982, he came top of 100, readers fav player .... so Number 1, where he belongs !
As someone else said, he is a Porsche, a Mercedes, and a BMW all rolled into one. It's just not fair!
Schenker has best combo of speed and melody.
The Maestro is back in town @ the RockBar in SJ on march 25, 2015. Herr Virtuoso Guitar himself, can't wait.
Brilliant Guitarist, we won't see another player like this ever, so learn while you can from the Maestro ( the best ).

AMEN to that man!
One of the all time greats, and all played with just the 3 fingers. See, the pinky is overrated! Loving the accent as well!
Both of them are great. It's not a matter of being better.
Cheers for the vid - brought it all back that did!
I'm pretty sure that from 3:00 on is from a guitar instructional video that was done in the 80's. I remember it being previewed on the Old Grey Whistle Test - of which I've got on tape somewhere.

Hehe, hell yeah!
Schenker rocks!!
Big secret to his clear cutting tone is real simple gear. Stock Gibson (stock pickups-not high output), a wah, then straight into a 50w Marshall. Delay on occasion.
In the 80's he approached Marshall with an idea that turned into the jcm800 many years later. So he gets the same sound just no wah.
Incredible right hand technique!
No sabía que podía tocar neoclásico también.
Nunca deja de sorprenderme Michael!
Saludos desde Guatemala Axe!!!
love that we call it a vibrato and Michael refers to the technique as a vibrasa ( love it ).
Thank you for contributing a good video again.
@AXEFLYERFV "SINGING notes! Not just mindless Staccato." (from Immortal Beloved) .. That phrase, along with this man, changed my life!!
@dwood16
well that's the thing,he is not known as a Shredder,Rhoads was influenced by him,

Schenker is a fucking mad dog on the axe, Dudes rips up the guitar like no one else.
does this MS have the best vibrato ever?
The Real King
@believer06 right. I also think that schenker also inspired yngwie alot...
