My Physical Therapist must be doing his work, because he has me doing the calf stretches, and I can raise the front of my feet and that stretches them so much! I had a TKR 6 weeks and 2 days ago. I have been fortunate so far. I was able to walk with no support after 4 days. I did not have any home therapy, and my knee will flex back as far as my other knee. So my therapist is working on strengthening exercises and he sure has me sweating. I plan to have my other knee done and I pray I do as well with it. It sounds like I need to keep doing these exercises on my own though, to keep things working okay. So far my knee has never felt stiff, but a few days after surgery when you bend it back it seems like the stitches might pop right out!! I am 68 and the pain from my old knee is gone and it's so much better now walking and doing stairs!! Thanks for the advice. I want to do all I can to make sure the healing process continues!!
Well said Will, I am a 68M, 20 months post TKR. I worked hard in PT and achieved a zero extension and 128 flexion. I still every day do my PT every morning and night and will continue forever. It still gets stiff overnight and if I stand in one place too long. Thats life and I can do what ever I want every day.
Incredibly helpful video, thank you! I am three weeks post-op, and while I did know these things, I didn't realize how vitally important they all are. I'll be sure to work a little bit harder at all of these exercises!
Hello Will. Very good video. Do you have any advice for someone who has had both knees replaced, one 7 years ago and the other 4 years ago. I never got back full motion and cannot kneel down as my knees don't flex enough. I get about 90 degrees on one and just under on the other one. Any advice on exercises to try to help improve them or is it too late?

Hi Will, I've just come across your video and loved the the inside of do's and don'ts. I am a 66 m and due to have a TKR in 3 weeks. At the moment Im keeping as fit as possible so that I'm ready for the op and there after. up until five or so months ago , I was surfing at least once a week or every day, swell dependant. My worry is as that I won't be able to surf anymore as I won't be able to get the range of movement that I need . Or am I just over thinking things, I am fully aware of the difficulties I may endure but any advice would be appreciated.
I wasn't getting mine in hospital n rehab. Got a little in hospital but I know now I got cheated. Honestly n then pt was to rough. I mean rough. I think the one was trying to do mua herself. Now I'm a mess.
I had TKR eleven months ago and the knee can't bend to 90 degrees or stretch. Its usually very painful. I have attended physio all this time. What do I do? I'm very desperate.. plse help.

Good luck! Hope you have a smooth recovery.
Great video. Thank you for sharing all this important information for us. A great incentive to keep doing all those exercises after surgery.
Yes, the exercises after surgery are almost as important as the surgery itself! Good luck and thank you for taking the time to comment :)
Really helpful as it actually explains the reasons why these exercises are crucially important.

That's a great result, John. We always look to get at least 120 degrees of flexion with our clients if possible. Sounds like your hard work paid off!
