  • Hi - here's a new tutorial on adding vocal harmonies and pad effects using the Roland Fantom 0/06/07/08 keyboard series.
In this tutorial I sing three harmonies and add them to the refrain we added in Tutorial 5. I also look at different the three different effects you can add to each bus as well as samples and live vocals.
I'm still using All Glory Is Yours by Bob Moore. You can preview the sheet music for free, and hear a more traditional recording from the publisher here: www.giamusic.com/store/resour...
Next time we'll look at a new song with a faster tempo!
    See you then!
    Paul

Wow, your depth of knowledge about audio recording and hacks on the Fantom is better than any Roland video. 👍

This keyboard is the greatest tool I have ever used in my life. Thanks for making this video, very informative!

Just got this as a live keyboard; first workstation, STEEP learning curve. I sincerely appreciate the effort you've put into these. Though I'm going to have to watch them again - in order - it's encouraging to see someone who seems to have mastered the unit. Sigh. God willing it'll all click...soon...! Thanks again.

    Hi Paul,
Great Tutorial…! Thanks. What is the microphone setup ?
I have a SM58 connected but the gain is very low. Now that I know that the sampled pad can be part of one the zone I can play around with the zone levels, still would like to know is there a better way to sing along in live with the audio connected to the keyboard with effects . At the moment my microphone is connected to a mixer for sing along live with effects like some reverb and delay. if you have any tips please let me know. Thanks

Hi A J, I have my mic going into a mixer, and that mixer channel feeding an aux bus. I then send the aux bus output of the mixer to the mic input of the keyboard. You could also do it with with an effects send bus. In the video, I just played the keyboard live, but you could send the keyboard output back to the mixer as another input. You could also configure just the vocals to go to the sub mix and send that back to a mixer input. That would give you more control over the vocal mix. Thanks for watching!

Hey Paul, happy new year, this and all your videos are manna. At 14:08 you mention using headphones on the sub out rather than the headphone socket. What is the reason for this?

Hi, thanks! Sometimes I use the sub out as a monitor, so I can send one sound to me and a different sound to the house or, in this case, my recorder. A click track and cue notes are examples of something I might want to hear in the headphones, but wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Hence the sub out. Hope that helps!

Hi Paul! Thanks! Very good video! I want to record my mic directly to Ableton Live using the fantom 0 input. Is there any way to do it? When I plug my mic and set it in the keyboard, everything is all right but Ableton doesn't receive the signal in any channel. Do you know if there's something that I can do? Thanks, your videos are helping me a lot!

You sure can! You have to connect via USB and set up the drivers but once you get it working it's easy. My video on integrating with Ableton Live might help you. Good luck!

@@contemporarysynth Thank you very much! I rewatched all the videos about connecting the keyboard to ableton, thanks a lot again. As I understand it, it is only possible to record the microphone using the correct USB Mix option? So for example, if I want to use an internal sound from the keyboard + the microphone + the line inputs to record another instrument, wouldn't there be a way for each one to be output on a separate channel correct?

I haven't found a way to simultaneously output different audio tracks to different channels or buses in Ableton. It's easy with MIDI, but not with actual audio. Maybe it's different with the full version of Ableton Live or the big FANTOM keyboard? If you have another audio interface you can try exporting different mixes out of the MAIN OUT and SUB OUT buses, and even pan different channels left and right to get more tracks (that would give you four mono tracks); but technically that approach loses a little quality since it's going to analog and back, and you might have some timing issues if you combine it with USB tracks later since any latency will throw off the synchronization. Maybe Roland will change it with a patch later. They've fixed other integration issues already.

@@contemporarysynth Probably with the big Fantom can be different. Anyway, really thanks! I really aprecciet your help!

This is a good video…thx for making it. I saw that you play while singing. How did you isolate those instrument noises from the mic?

    • @contemporarysynth
      @contemporarysynth  Рік тому

Basically, I just try to keep my monitor speakers down as much as I can. There probably is still a little bleed over into my vocal channel, but it's mostly masked by the actual keyboard feed that I mix in, so you can't pick it out.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. I have a little portable vocal booth and wireless headset I could use. Is there a way to hook a condenser mic to this? I have one with phantom power.
