Ugh! Ppl need to stop bad mouthing Marilyn, Jayne,& all those other terrific acts of the era. Each woman had her own personas and their own great qualities. Tragedies were abundant in their careers as well. Yes! Jayne was Fox's insurance policy against MM's absence. She was quite successful 4 a few years. Jayne herself said she was trying for serious material in the beginning but, was told by a showbiz man " Why waste your natural talents?". So he in turn molded her into a blonde bombshell. I think many forget too that she was on Broadway before she became a movie star ( though she had smaller movie roles before WSSRH). I think this video can also put to rest that many don't believe she could speak other languages. This might've been dubbed at the beginning but, its clearly Jayne's voice singing the song. Yes Marilyn was great but, so was Jayne! Get over it. Ppl need to stop being so Goddamn petty about these once famously alive stars.

@@duddbunny5432 I meant to write to mana4717 that Jayne wasn't natural she wanted to be like Marilyn whom she idolized. Marilyn created the dumb blonde routine and it made her a star.
@@susanb2015 Jayne didnt idolize Marilyn. She idolized Shirley Temple as a child. She wanted to outshine Marilyn. And she did briefly for a few years when Marilyn was tryin to be taken seriously and went off to start her own production company. Jayne was more strategic and calculated. Plus, Jayne wouldn't have had to immulate Marilyn if her agent didn't have her change her image and if Fox didn't hire her to stand in for Monroe when Marilyn ran off to New York. Both women were their own works.
I love Marilyn and Jayne, have done for 30 years, Jayne is just as much as Marilyn's equal, if a bit more!

Jayne was exceptionnal(even more than Marilyn)in that she was TOTALY independant and 10 years ahead of her time:she could act(she indeed followed acting classes),played piano, violin,married the guy SHE wanted to ,raised 5 kids,made her own money without following the studios'orders!!and she got a GOLDEN GLOBE!She was indeed a girl of the 70s!The problem is that she was hired to take the place of Marilyn(Fox had becomed fed up of her)but Jayne would prove to be the wrong choice:too INDEPENDANT!!
don't know if the ONLY problem was jayne's "independence"! she would have KILLED for the career monroe had and she knows it! also, jayne thought to be even dumber then the dumb blonder persona and more outrageous was the answer for not only stardom, not only superstardom, but want she wanted more then anything MONROE-DOM... it wasn't...the paying public turned off jayne very quickly.....

Yeah but in the 50s, what the studio says goes or you'll find yourself out in the woods. Jayne kept doing her own thing all the time: outrageous publicity stunts, having babies one after the other, and basically cheapened herself. She had the looks like Monroe but she didn't have the restraint. She's like the fun girl at a party whose energy draws you in but increasingly outrageous behavior eventually turns you off before the night is over.

This woman was smart in life and a good mother but did not do so much in art. Jayne Mansfield was the Fox’s response to Marilyn bad conduct (Monroe took acting classes, asked for better contract, created her on Production Company was a rebel and was out of control) The public just saw her as a Marilyn’s imitator and that’s why she never succeed!
exactly... jayne wanted MONROE-DOM and thought to be physically bigger, acting even dumber and doing outrageous stunts for the publicity was the answer! it wasn't!.... she became a joke and her career died long before she did.. the only blondes who became true stars in that era besides marilyn were NOT the marilyn imitators... they were grace kelly and kim novak both who played cool, mysterious, classy blondes... as it was when marilyn died everyone realized she could and would never be replaced because she had charisma and screen magic that none of them (or any actress including liz taylor!) had... they were already by 1962 these marilyn wannabees b and c level film "stars" and when marilyn passed, even worse for them they became caricatures of a dead woman.... marilyn would never have resorted to (and would never have to!) anything these "lesser marilyn's"did for work... as it is, marilyn in 1962 was leaning away from the dumb blonde persona and image just judging by her figure where she had lost alot of weight and was more trim and lithe then big breasted curvy and her mannerisms and speech pattern.. she was becoming a older still beautiful but classy sophisticated blonde persona, jayne instead of doing this in the 60's thought the opposite... "marilyn's dead, so now the public needs and STILL NEEDS a big breasted blonde dumb blonde sex symbol more then ever!' she miscalculated big time...playing the dumb blonde but with a attempt at 60's "hipness" with her wigs and clothing... and trying to appear younger then she was...

Let's stop the sniping; I think _both_ Marilyn and Jayne had more brains than is usually suggested. And - especially given the attitudes of the times they lived in - I can't blame them for also using their "assets" too. Marilyn _was_ troubled - drugs, presidents, whatever - but can you blame her; had she lived longer, who knows what she might have done. And Jayne was always put down as a Marilyn wannabe/impersonator; from the comments here alone, she was more than that, too. OK, she did the odd porn film (or at least, nudist clip) - but then so did Joanna Lumley, and look how much _she_ 's respected nowadays.

marilyn had THEE screen charisma and magic, it was natural... jayne was coarse, obviously tried too much and too hard, over the top and it looked it and thus this is what turned film audiences off from her after only a couple of years of film "stardom"... jayne wanted not only stardom, not only superstardom but wanted MONROE-DOM... she thought being physically bigger, acting dumber and more outrageous was the answer.. IT WASN'T.... thus she was soon b-level and c-level in her stated most wanted career, that being a film career and soon her career became one b and c level european flick after another, one cabaret show after another and so on, and became a curiosity piece as a 'celebrity" and nothing more... when marilyn died, she and the other wannabees became caricatures of a dead woman, who actually WAS A-LIST in every way... to say mansfield was the most successful marilyn wannabee is perhaps correct, but not much of a legacy or tribute... she was the "poor man's marilyn" the "working man's marilyn"....and rightfully is remembered for her body and attention she got in one attention grabbing stunt after another nothing more and is not even remembered among most of the public under age 50/40 unless one is a film buff.... sad for her she chose that route for a career, then again, was she THAT great of a actress if she had hidden her assets? who knows, perhaps for her, a 2nd rate monroe whose career died before she did was good enough for her.. she had money, got attention and was always working in some avenue or another.... in that regard i guess she WAS a success...

Every interview, I have seen, the women all say the same thing, Marilyn was afraid to do a scene. She wanted to get it right. She had fears, even though she was fully aware of her beauty. She didn't want to act. She wanted to model. The camera loved her. The only surgery Monroe had, was on her chin, and nose. She sewed beads into her bras, to give her a more voluptuous look.
