      +Sonta Lovely Thank you so much! I'm glad you feel that way, I really want people to try it, especially since it is so much better for you and your peach! Definitely try one!! After this week I might be able to say I've mastered the cup :)

      Veronica Franklin Lol I'm just now finally getting into it and I ordered my first cup on Amazon called Blossom. I truly believe every woman should own one. Every woman's cervix size is different and in my research and personal findings I have a low cervix so the Diva Cup wouldn't really work for me (it's more for high cervixes). UA-camr Precious Star Pads has an excellent video detailing how to choose the right cup for you! I definitely will still be trying to find the perfect cup if on my first try it doesn't work for me!

    A tip I discovered...using kegel muscles helps to take it out without squatting. I just bend over with my legs kind of apart, push my muscles, and it comes out. Carefully pinch the bottom of the cup when it "emerges" from inside you, and hover over the toilet with the cup so no worries on spilling. For those who don't know how to kegel...basically pretend like you're pooping...that's how you push it out! Similar premise as pushing a baby out haha. Apologies if that was too graphic but using the cup requires you to be a little more "in touch" with your body anyways :)

    • @cayesh1234
      @cayesh1234 7 років тому +5

      I wouldn't say kegel exercises and pooping are the same, not here. Pooping is more like the "open" part of the kegel exercise.

    • @elainewilliams4568
      @elainewilliams4568 6 років тому +5

      Yea kegel and pooping is 2 different things....kegel is tightening your muscles

    • @BruceProductionsHD
      @BruceProductionsHD 5 років тому

      Great advice. But I think Kegels should be learned. It is totally different than pushing like your pooing right. A great exercise to learn for our lives especially for bladder control as we get older. You can do them everyday. Sitting in your car or around. Do them. Very healthy and good for our bodies.

  • @elledumble
    @elledumble 8 років тому +131

    Do not cut the "tip" before trying the cup first!! If you have a high cervix it will be useful for extraction!! You might not even feel it! Some people also prefer keeping it just because!! Just don't cut it off before trying it ;-)

    This helped me soooo much! First time user of the blossom cup. The "C-fold" didn't work for me either. The "push down fold" worked better for me. I also cut the tip, because it was irritating. I found that when I used the push down fold, relaxed my muscles, and twisted up while breathing slowly, it went up easy.

  • @jojok5599

    Sarah. You are a GODDESS. Today is day 3 of my using my diva cup. I ordered it a week ago knowing I was starting my period this week and I was super nervous about using it for the first time. I watched all your videos about how to use, insert and remove, and literally I haven't had a single problem!! I just cut off my stem and I completely agree, way more comfortable.
    But in general, THANK YOU. From using the triangle fold, to putting my foot up on the toilet seat to put it in, even to the 💩 💪 , you are spot on and have saved me any and all discomfort just as a first time user.
    You're the best!!

    Great job! you handled this topic without it coming across awkward. I got my cup in April, tried it once and it felt like the worst pap smear ever. So I didn't try it again until July, but since then the Diva Cup has not failed me yet! You're spot on with everything. Also, I've never tried that fold you showed. I was actually planning to do a video on periods this month and talk about the cup, so I'll definitely link your video in the downbar when I do it!

    Thank you so much Sarah! I watched several videos in regards to menstrual cups as I am a recent new convert. It seemed pretty daunting considering this was another world outside of tampons. I watched several videos for tips on how to put in and take out a menstrual cup and your videos by far had the best tips and were incredibly thorough! Every single tip you suggested I did and it was a lot easier because of you! It still was somewhat of a learning curve but truly I know it was half the time had I not done any research and just followed the instructions on the box. Thank you again for taking the time to make these videos, keeping us informed , sharing your insightful tips, and your experience! #youdabest

    I bought the Blossom Cup as my first cup ever. Honestly, I've NEVER had any leaks with it. I use the C fold, and it doesn't "pop" open, but I run my finger around the base and it opens up for me. Then I tug on it. If it doesn't slide down, I know it's in place. It was also only $17. I got it off of Amazon.

I bought a Luna cup last month tried it out, FREAKED out when I couldn't get it out, spilled it on the floor, washed it, wrapped it up and used tampons the remainder of my cycle.. The cups with the more rounded bottoms such as the Sckoon Cup are so much better in my opinion, at least for me. The shape is more rounded at the bottom so you can easily tell that the cup is open right away once inserted, because it will be fully rounded at the bottom and not collapsed in. If it's collapsed in, then that means it's not fully open aka not inserted properly. Just give it a turn by squeezing and turning the bottom of the cup a bit and the bottom will return to the open round shape, indicating that it is properly inserted and will not leak at all. You can easily tell when it's fully open and inserted properly. The pointed bottom cup gives no easy indication of whether or not the cup has opened properly. It stays pointy whether it's opened correctly or not :/ Also it's not as comfortable (for me) , because the cup itself is longer in length than the rounded bottom cups, but they hold the same amount of fluid. If you're worried about leakage ( which really doesn't happen at least for me ), you can buy a few reusable cloth panty liners. They sell thong cloth liners also.
    Just sharing my experience for anyone who had problems with using the more pointy bottom cups, such as the Diva cup etc. Don't give up, just find a cup shape that suits you best. There are many different shapes and styles available for purchase online. I do recommend trying the more rounded bell shaped cups such as the Sckoon Cup. I find the Sckoon cup so easy to use and so much more comfortable. I have to remind myself that I'm on my period when using it, because it pretty much feels like a normal day. I can't even tell that I'm on my period when I use my Skoon Cup. I don't feel a thing. Menstrual cups are the best invention ever IMO. No more gross pads or tampons. No leaking when you sleep at night. No more having to carry around bulky pads or tampons. Swim and ex recipe all you want without worry. So on and so on. Seriously if you haven't at least tried a menstrual cup, you are missing out on a life changer!

    Just a tip for everyone (I've seen this a lot): pouring boiling water over your cup and letting it sit doesnt mean its been boiled! Boiling is when the water bubbles; so you can get a microwave save dish and boil you cup in there for a couple of minutes or boil it in a pot (I boil mine with steam in the microwave, quick and easy). 😊
    (I know the video is old and you probably have changed your methods; just trying to let other people know so they stay save and healthy)

    Your experience is kind of similar to mine in my first cycle I couldn't get the seal right and it was leaking and I was really struggling with it, but now I've tried it for about 4 or 5 months and I've learnt that after inserting the cup the key is to twist/turn the cup all the way around which will open the cup and create a seal.

Why I didn't think of it myself is beyond me...duh push it up past your pubic bone and you won't feel a thing, but making sure it was sealed first is just plain brilliant!!! And is working perfectly with no back up pads! Thanks for sharing!! Good tips! I especially like the one for the little holes. Another tip for those who find that that the stem is too long even after cutting it (which I did) is to wear it inside out. It’s much more comfortable for me and easier to go in using the push down method.

      hmmmm.... I dont think it should be hurting. Perhaps the cup you are using is too large for your body to comfortably accept? & everyones body is shaped slightly differently. Some cups are shaped differently than others. Maybe try another brand? Or maybe menstrual cups just aren't for you? Everyone is different. I hope you dont give up on them but if you need to it would be understandable. It is supposed to make your life easier, not cause you pain!

    I just purchased my first cup! I found your videos about a week ago and I have learned a lot!! I actually watched your "no-poo" video first. It was so interesting so I ended up starting no-poo right away! (I am using flour to substitute baking soda)
    And since I loved your no-poo videos, I watched your menstrual cup video too...OMGSH at first, I was like...."you put that!?" but your detail experience helped me decide to try the cup! :)
    I am so excited for my cup and no-poo journey!! Thank you!!

      +Midori Matsumoto Ah! that's so awesome! and that makes me so happy!! :) I'm glad you're at least giving everything a try! Let me know if you have any questions! I've never used flour before but that definitely sounds a lot better than baking soda since BS can be quite harsh. Also, it's been I think 2 or 3 cycles since I've posted this and I am happy to say I've had 1 successful cycle and it was complete bliss! I plan to share another experience of my "mastered" method once I try it one more time! Best of luck with the cup!

      +sarahhtranTV i did it!! I did it!! (Sorry i am over excited here) i got my first menstrual cup(sckoon) a few weeks ago and i finally tried it for the first time today!! Woo hoo! Putting it in was easy since i was used to using a tampon..but omgsh it took so long to take it out. :( I got it out after few attempts but omgsh it was tough! I def wanna know your mastered method! No company manufacture a menstrual cup in where i live (japan) so the only way i get a good reviews or comments about a cup is from you and other youtubers. So i am def looking forward your new video! :)
      By the way, i stopped using flour as my no-poo method..i only wash my hair with hot water and use citric acid as a rinse and apply coconut oil right before i dry my hair. Its working out better than just using flour now now. I wanna try the honey method next :)

    When you’re talking about contracting your muscles to get it in 6:33 , do you mean like getting into your cervix as well because I’m currently having trouble pushing it further up into me, I try but I don’t seem to be making a lot progress with pushing it up further. I’m really trying to get it into my cervix (I’m also a little scared to push it up further as well💀) Sn: I think I have a very high cervix.

    One of my sistrens sent me your vid and told me about this fold. From the instructions given with the product, it didn't work but this method worked well after relaxing these muscles and popping the product lol but u need to find your own rhythm. When placing it in, shoot more downwards than upwards. Sitting on my toilet bowl made it easier. It never fell in lol. I have done it standing as well with one foot up like how u would insert a tampon. Taking it out, I pushed like I'm squeezing aka taking a poo but I use my kegel muscles which brought it towards the opening. They say to squeeze the bottom of it and pull it out, to prevent spilling. That actually works. All in all, got my product from twistieonthego. I love it. First time trying it. Forgot it was there. The bloating reminded me I was in my period lol. Great video hon n informative. I will buy about 3 more to just have in case one falls somewhere other than my bathroom lol

    I just use apple cider vinegar and water to wash it (in addition to boiling it after each cycle). Since the ph of soap is really bad for your area down there, I didn't want to risk any soapy residue getting left on it. Of course if you cannot stand the smell of vinegar, the diva wash is ph balanced as well (although more expensive).

    I must say, mine doesn't disperse like ink at all. It's all grouped together and sinks to the bottom, so the toilet paper is a good idea. You may also want to look into cup spots, so you can set the cup on a hygienic surface so you can tend to other needs.

I've noticed mostly circle cupspots/cupcoasterd, but I actually ordered 2 from RainbowsGrace (but I'm sure you could ask any Etsy seller to make them) that are in the shape of pads and include the snaps. I found these to be more functional, because they can be folded and not pickup any germs from your purse or whatever. And also when you are done using it you can snap up and the blood will not touch any surroundings. Pretty the way you'd use a pad.

    Not sure if this is mentioned in the thread of comments, but when taking it out, just push like you have to poop. That is the muscle to get it out. I tried measuring my cervix during ovulation and during my period and
    never found it. Used my middle finger and never reached anything. The
    first time I used my menstrual cup (Eva Cup) I found it really easy to insert, slept with it and the next day in the morning when trying to take it out I found out that it moved way high and tried for and hour and a half to take it out. I got so scared I stopped using
    it. My following menstrual cycle I tied a string to the bottom of the
    stem and that made it so much easier, maybe not the best way... but it
    worked, maybe the Diva Cup would be better for me since it´s taller than
    the Eva Cup... By the way, Thanks for the video, very instructive!

      Im still trying to find tips on taking it out also. Getting it in is okay, but taking it out is very difficult for me. Its hard to reach it and i guess maybe my cervix is higher than most bc im tugging on the tab for dear life. I dont kniw how people are able to grab the base of their cup...i cant reach that far n get a grip on it. It get really messy and painful. By the time my cup is out i am irritated n sore inside n i dont feel like i should reinsert. Maybe i need to try the finger up the side trick to break the seal? Its the suction making it more difficult to remove in addition to it being pretty far up n hard to grab

    I mean I do eat iron pills from excess blood loss, and the doctor did say that my flow is wayyyy heavier than average, but I really believed that I could just empty my cup every time I arrive home (so it is in for about 8 hours)
    But I really got disappointed while using it for a few cycles,
    1. I keep leaking even when it isn’t even filled
    2. It gets filled to the max after only about 2-3 hours on my heavy days
    3. Because of no2, I have to change it constantly in public toilets and menstrual cups are way more of a hassle than pads so it takes about 8-10 mins to mildly clean it then reinsert it.
    Idk why I just made this whole rent, but yeah umh I’m really sad tbh because I made like months of research and was so excited 😭😭😭
    I mean I guess it really depends on the person and menstrual cups don’t work out for everyone

      +Hannah Stone Thank you!! My one wall on the right is White, and the rest of my walls are a light grey. I unfortunately do not know the name of the grey paint colour because the entire house is practically that colour when I moved in 14 years ago haha. My dad doesn't know the paint colour name either. :( wah so sorry. Its just a very very light grey though!

    great video, I figured it helps when your muscules are relaxed to both insert and extract, also I bought and extra cup from china which had a silicone cup for boiling it in a microwave, I think you can also buy the boiling cup separately, it works great for me!) good luck to all the ladies who are just trying, it is definitely woth it!)
