I remember this on the bootleg. the melody he "writes" during the solo on DWD is beautiful. He is best when he does that, absolutely beautiful melody very Holst (Jupiter) or some epic film score. He's happy as a pig in !@#$. Seeing the joy
I'm just going to come out and say what makes phish amazing is they are almost all identically awesome. I'm a pianist so naturally I flow to Page. However having studied music composition I'm in awe of them all, equally. Dude its unreal.
Yeah, no doubt. I play bass and guitar, but for me Fishman is the rock-solid skeleton that makes what they do possible-not just anyone can play the drums to things like the composed sections of the Rebas and Bowies and YEMs and so on, and often during jams if you listen just a bit harder it becomes clear that everyone is following Fish. Many of his peer drummers have said that what he does is astonishing, so this isn’t just me talking here. There’s a reason the band is named after him, after all!
clifford ball is the fucking best sound of all time. so aggressive. 96 phish is peak underrated. summer 96 jams trey plays so intense. I can't get over his tone. no one will read this post but this jam is so fucking peak. trey and trey parker are fuckin poss. memba?
Yep. Its the culmination of all the years prior - right before they headed in a new direction of musical exploration. They seem to effortlessly go where the energy takes them. Unbelievable. I love this band
YASSSSS "Rift" "Stash" "You Enjoy Myself" Post YOUR favorite phish studio record!! I wanna hear it!! Those are my favorite phish STUDIO recordings in order. (as of now: ask me again in a week) I realize that their live stuff is where you fall in love.. But if people don't hear these condensed versions of what phish can be,.. I don't think anybody will have the patience to understand how drastically their perception of music can change.. PLEASE POST YOUR FAVORITE PHISH TRACKS SO YOUNG PEOPLE CAN BE ENLIGHTENED
Taylor White I agree I was there ! One of the most amazing phish shows I’ve ever seen and I’ve been watching them since the Burlington days back in 89. I can’t believe almost 30 years ,yikes I’m old ! But this band never will be ! Epic thanks for the post !
It certainly was a great time for phish. I personally think 94 was the pinnacle of their career, but they were still raging in 96 for sure, and Clifford ball was probably their best festival musically. I personally wasn’t there , and I could have been, was at most the shows leading up to it, a regret I will have til my dying day.
I was there. I remember the shirt said, a 2 day festival and we were there for 4 days. When they came out on the semi trailer and were playing in the middle of the night, crazy. The jet fly over was insane.

Live or recorded, Ghost, Antelope, Guelah Papyrus, Sparkle, NICU, YEM, Julius, DWD, Wolfman, Maze, Weigh, Harpua, Horse & SiTM(B2B), Wilson, 2001, Frankenstein, Cavern, Makisupa Policeman, Character Zero, Rocky Top(cover), I Didn't Know, David Bowie, Meatstick and any LawnBoy (like evar!). These are the first thoughts of favorite songs from Phish right off the top of my head. Both live and album versions. I have already indoctrinated my children into the likes of Phish. They have already learned to ask for them by name on road trips. Passing the torch onto the next generation. Most favorite of all time horse and SiTM back to back 7/4/99. Those two songs at that point in my life. priceless →→→ for everything else there's MasterCard.
Anyone remember when trey had an old analog phone on stage? He would just go pick it up in between songs, say a few words then hang up? I always thought he was talking to Paul but often wondered if he was just fuckin with people. I think it was summer 96 though??

Great point , and one that I ponder often.

All drummers are machines, but fish takes it to a whole new level.

He did that to tell the others the next song. The same was done with the cup. The cup thing had a mic inside.
Phishboy26 I always saw the straw on the Big Gulp going up his nose. ?? The phone was only a few shows as I recall. not even a full tour.
MrJDP1974 Didn't they bring out a horse for him to talk into it's ass at one point? I kid... :)
SOAMLE I am sure that Mr Ed would have just loved that. Imagine Trey walking up to Mr Ed to toss his salad onstage.
Phishboy26 HAHA oh man...
