Bro I became I phan around 93-94 listening to bootleg cassette tapes and have been a phishead every since. 93 to 2000 was so amazing. Now with everything there has still been magic to this day but its undeniable that span wasn't perfection.
There's no one out there better than they are at building up to giant emotional peaks; that's a big reason I fell in love with the band 20+ years ago. I've been saying to anyone who will listen for years now, there's nothing better than a good Hood peak, with Slave coming in to a close second. It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I actually get disappointed when they go dark in Hood. It's the HOSE peaks that keep me coming back. I haven't listened to a ton of their stuff, but it seems like Goose is starting to get pretty good at this kind of thing, too. Clearly still in the early phases, but they definitely have potential (though it isn't very surprising, given how much overlap the fanbases have)
Unreal u say this. Cause this is precisely what I say. Both songs are my absolute faves. Always have been. Not just my fav Phish tunes. But my favorite tunes period. Slave once moved my Dad to tears. At the First phish show I ever took him to 😂
Whenever I hear this song a feeling rushes over me of being young, careless, and invincible. I smell air on a summer night and lose all reality of time. I love it thanks boys
1995 baby, they were a different band back then........93 94 95 absolute magical years, that's when i used to see them in concert, i havent seen them since 2002.....
Go see them. I guarantee you that you'll have a blast and say to yourself 'WTF have I been doing all these years not seeing them?!!?!' I hadn't seen them since 2000 when I on a whim entered the NYE lottery and won for 12/30-31 in 2016. At the time I walked into MSG, I'd barely listened to them since early 2.0 as the scene had gotten bad around then and Phish did indeed get sloppy for a bit in the early 2000s. Seeing them again was.... well.. there are no words, but it was like finding home again and being welcomed back by old friends you hadn't seen in way too long. I've seen 30+ shows since, have tickets to see at least 9 more shows this year, and likely will more once fall is announced. The sloppyness of 2.0 is long gone, and they're as good as they ever were right now. IT still happens at shows, and if your'e not going to see them.. man are you missing out on some of the absolute best moments to be found on planet earth when they're putting on a show.
There's something uplifting and positive about Treys guitar tone it's like calm down everything is going to be alright as a matter of a fact everything is going to be phantastic.
It’s the wood Paul Languedoc imports from European forests - the same wood that cellos are made from - which give him that crazy clean unique sound to his tone. That and Trey is a ma-fuckin genius lol
The 90's were, in my opinion the hey day 4 Phish. Although the musical library has expanded, it jst seems as though the jams had more funk & the raging was not few & far between. 98' the best year 4 the boys??
@@harpua924 I agree the 90's were the peak years. I know a lot of people like '97-98 but I like pre '97. Up to '97 I felt like each instrument could play the role of lead and there was more creative exploration from each instrument. From 1997 on they settled into a more traditional rhythm section foundation with melody instrumentation on top. It didn't feel like the high wire act it used to be. '92-96 they were hungry talented and on fire.
This is such a great jam. The older I get the more I appreciate Slave.
1995 to 2000 was such an amazing span. I was 19 to 23 touring with Phish. My god I was blessed.

I did all my 99 shows in those years.
Best era of my life and in my opinion the best shows and energy. Pre iphone dystopia…. We still collected tapes!
95-99 was a buildup to the perfect Everglades peak. And the 99 NYE Slave is my favorite one.
@@sixstringcity3931this reminds me of decorating mail-in lottery tickets 😊
That buildup and release is just something that can't be described in words. This and Hood are what defines the Phish sound to me.
so beyond words!!!!! much

Nice description, very. I can identify. 👍✌️
Such a great time period for this band
The journey of a well executed Phish song is breathtaking. All the high and lows we feel. That keeps me coming back for more!
Jackstraw 81 so true
From Wichita! P:
Talk about a great way to brighten your day up when you really need it! This holds a very special place in my heart and always will
Agreed! Phish always helpful in brighten up the day.
Jackstraw 81 plpp pop pp on
I always relate it to the concept of a great story, with challenges, antagonists, etc, with a hero saving the world at the end
The Leslie speaker😍
Trey's head nod at 10:37 makes me laugh every time, and then it makes me wish I had even 5% of his connection to and knowledge of the fretboard.
The leslie @9:52 is one of the most amazing sounds to ever enter my ear holes
Also the classic Trey-phace in the zone snappin his head smiling! It’s the best!
Trey's use of the leslie 2nd set 2nd night of the Clifford Ball is so, so good. If you haven't checked it out you should!
This may be the very best thing on UA-cam!
This song got me... Hook, line and sinker. First show... Thank you boys.
That's amazing- what a first show!
When i need a pick me up... I end here.
This is the one that hooked me too
Hey... I needed a hit...
# 63G774298 makes sense to me sir.
I loved how these earlier versions were a little more upbeat and tight as it were... Awesome quality!
My 2nd show.. such a treat to watch and think back to this time. And what a beautiful jam. Thanks so much for sharing!
Incredible. Feels like it was yesterday. Amazing restored video! What a great show it was; Fall 95 was incredible.
such great video quality from 95
I'll always love that song!!!! Such a good one.
My second show! This is great! So glad to have found some of these on da Toob.
Check out 10-16-21

Yep, even after this pl@nd3mic is beyond us and humanity builds a better planet that welcomes everyone and everyone's traumas are healed.

54k views is all? Needs more. THIS is grade A!
I'm doing my part, my friend - and will continue to do so until I am no longer conscious.
Wow, amazing quality footage!!
Splendid up in my batcave with snow slamming outside today (Jan 19, 2019, Chicago). Gear and cocoa at the ready. Doin' alright.
Thanks for the upload.
Doing the same in Kokomo Indiana right now, the snow Is beautiful.
Its almost 1 year later, in Chicago but not snowing.
Thanks so much for sharing this great video!
This was my fourth Phish show and it sure was a good one.
I said it the night I was there, & I say it again today: The BEST Slave To The Traffic Light Ever.

@@honuman39that’s right. You put your finger on what I’ve been trying to articulate for 20 years haha. Big ball jam ftw
If there's anything I learned from '23 and '24, it's to stop putting the 90's on a pedestal... Long live The Phish from Vermont!
cant believe how great this footage is
This is nice to hear!!! Love me some dank A** Phish!!!
I hope Trey still owns those pants.
Best Slave to the Traffic ever.
Andrew Johnson I agree.
Lately 6.13.94 has been my favorite. Give it a listen if you're not familiar. It is top notch like this one.
11.21.97
If anybody ever asks me where to start with the Phish, this would be the direction I send them.
7.4.99
A G D E - It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.
Very good for sure, ""Best Ever" is always hard to define. (2) from 94', 06-13-94 Tempe & 11-26-94, Minneapolis, (A Live One) are equally hot
Do you mean 5/13 in Tempe? The 6/13 from KC is pretty hot too.
No way, 11.21.97 is hot
Cincinatti 93 is one of the best too. Listen if you have not heard it.
I was looking for the chess board couldn’t remember if it was this year or not but I found it back there
My favorite show memories trump yours 😂
I don't know what's more amazing this tasty jam or trey in pajamas. LOL
Trey in Walmart shopping wear lol
Thank you.
Top 5 for sure.
I remember this vividly. I was in the front row right if front of trey
Wooooooooow. I so want to see a concert. Gotta go budget so jealous and proud of u for sharing and I better go budget ,lol
Going to see them live in July @ Merriweather my 30 yr anniversary !
mike means business...got the tie on
A+
To me, this song is about freedom and what it means to be free.
Still holds up
YES Please.
thank you for the sauce sco
It’s just fucking beautiful music
Wow this roars!
My son was there!
That's awesome.... I was 2 years old then, haha
I can breathe again. Thanks Phish. I will never forget my first Slave experience at Lakewood Atl mid 90’s. Life changer
Best part was being there live!
I fucking love scrapping UA-cam for Phish gems!
My 1st Phish show...
Something about this slave....probably my favorite
Ok....everybody solo!! I love this song.
Always reminds me a lot of Zeppelin's live version of 'The Rain Song'. Oops, I said the quiet part out loud!
Protect this video at all costs
I became a phan around 1993 so you know I'm going to get weak knees for any Slave during this period.
In case you forgot. Phish is not just a punchline of a Jimmy Fallon joke.
Love how those rivets just shimer on his ride cymbal
December ‘95 is May ‘77
Dude yes
As Butthead would say, "Uh, that was pretty cool, huh huh!"
best song by the best band ever....2nd only to The Lizards for me
Is there any more of this show available?
only the acdc bag, possum and mikes groove... theres a couple other vids on my channel.
thumbs up
this is chronic sound quality
slave outro jam ftw
Some good ass shit
Everyday as I sit here at this light I think, damnit the hippies, the hippies were right.
Ah yes, remember the good old days without cell phones? They should do a remake Slave to Your Cell Phone.
Wow nice man ! Wonderful recording ! Did you catchthis originally ? Great show , thanks man !
"Slave to the Satellite".....
Beautiful, but I don't think it beats 6/13/94.
