omg I finally got this joke! They assess risk by throwing a dart at a dart board when the customer enters the bank. LOL

See the story on brokerage firm Charles Schwab.

I'd love to see how he would have tackled cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin mining now consumes the same amount of electricity as Sweden. The Clarke and Dawe view would have been delicious.

At 5% interest-rate and 2% inflation it takes 25a to double the money "invested". The banks have had way more time without a default. They will still have gotten money even after a 100% default. I don't call that unsafe. If you lend money to a country that has more than 150% GDP in debt you ought to know there is some risk.

It's all the more absurd when you come to realize that the money the bank loaned in exchange for the bond, doesn't in fact exist.
it was just a figure typed into a computer at the time the "loan" was made, the bank creating its "loan" money out of thin air.

I still fully suspect the whole global banking sector (if not *all* banking everywhere) is a one giant scam. I mean, don't most banks have debt too?

That's how monetary sovereignty works. None of the money is "real" in the same sense as gold, sunlight, or oil. It's a symbolic value of the worth of a nation in relation to the goods and services a nation can provide.
And if a nation says it "can't afford" a social good or service, then it's a declaration that said public service isn't "valuable" to said nation.
