i remember being very enamored by her early videos singing at home very loudly and perfectly as a very young lucy. Who knew she'd be in a music boarding school for the past couple of years. What a dynamic driving spirit to trade off home life for her passion. I hope she gets the acclaim she so deserves.

She hit that power note very well! I could possibly sing this song but it would be a bit tricky for me to reach the low notes as I'm a Mezzo Soprano - apparently.

I think of Betty Buckley and Elaine Paige when I think of the song Memory from the musical Cats. Heck, I would even think of Jennifer Hudson before remembering that Barbra Streisand as well as Barry Manilow also recorded this song shortly after the amazingly successful launch of Cats (both on Broadway and in the West End).
I think they meant this song is more similar to Barbara's arrangement

I just discovered this talented singer...and only 15 at this time. She has talent...raw talent; but a diamond in the rough. The audience need to be reigned in, but the TV show let's them be à nuisance because they feel that it raises ratings. Perfect example of stupidity by the show's producers.
Now back to Lucy. She is young and inexperienced and it shows. How? You have to listen to practically the only one who has sung this piece with utter perfection. That singer is Elaine Page!
Memories is a song of pain. Of angst, and despair. A song of feelings of defeat and resignation, that in spite of such, one still fights the inevitable demise of spirit and pride; knowing full well that you have been discarded, and relegated to insignificance by life in old age. Elaine Paige brought out the pain and torment of her soul in how she sang it, and in the tones she used for the song. You feel the anguish that torments her, and her disputing the reality of her fate. She will not go gentle into the dying of her light.
Lucy did not do this. Her voice and timbre and tone did not convey any challenge to the end. She has the talent. Let us see where she takes it. Singers need to adapt to the circumstances of certain songs. It's not just about a pretty and wonderful voice. They need to evoke the emotions that the words wish to tap.

Barbra Streisand recorded this song as well, and released it as a single. Barry Manilow also released a single of Memory.

Robert Hudson The point is that the girl used Streisand’s version for her audition. However, Streisand’s version is the first I ever heard, having never seen the musical or heard music from it.
@@ritchiesmith3306 And MY point is that Streisand's version is far from unique. Saying that you are covering GNR's version of "Knocking On Heaven's Door" makes sense because it is very different from the original. In this case, the arrangement is pretty generic.

The only reason Lucy didn't win is the song choices she sang. Whoever coached her to sing those songs really did her a disservice.

Not a bad performance, she had issues reaching the high notes, it is a very difficult song, checkout 15 year old Lucy Thomas's performance of this song that she just posted, its better then Elaine Paige's original performance......
I am a big fan of Lucy Thomas as well, but it isn't quite fair to compare a studio production with the nerve wrecking situation at a blind audition. (... and this Lucy is two years younger than the other Lucy :D)
