Thank you for the video. You said to post any questions, so I have a couple, if you wouldn't mind. 1. Hi-res music from a phone through usb to a after market hi-res head unit... which dac processes the signal to analog? The phone dac or head unit dac? If the HU dac, how does the phone know not to process the music to analog, but instead let the HU dac do that function? Same question about an external usb dongle dac connected to the phone. How does the phone "know" not to use its internal dac? 2. Can I use a usb dac of any type to bypass my HU dac? I'm guessing no unless the signal comes into the head unit via an a/v in port? Is audio coming into an a/v supposed to be analog or digital? I have a Kenwood Excelon 907S by the way. Thanks for any help.
Hey there! So regarding question #1, it depends on how you're outputting music from your phone. If you're going with USB, that digital data will be converted by your head unit's DAC. If you're going with an analog auxiliary cable, then it would likely be your phone's DAC converting the signal. So your phone knows which method to send based on the output you've chosen. Question #2 is a bit more complicated, and we'd recommend you reach out to us here where we can help further: www.moon-audio.com/contact-us 🙂
Very nicely done video, which goes a long way toward explaining why I am a loyal Moon Audio customer. It's clear that the people who ARE Moon Audio care a great deal - and know a lot as well - about the gear they sell, and they offer a wide range of equipment to satisfy customers' individual needs. Thanks for your fun and informative introduction to the world of DACs.
Hey Moon Audio! Thanks for your amazing video(as always)! Could you do a video talking about the Astell&Kern CA1000T and PA10, please? There aren't many reviews about them out there. I am personally using a ZX507 and I am looking for an upgrade. I am using IEMs now but I wanna try out big ol' headphones as well, so I am looking for more power output. I wonder if it is any good to use a PA10 with my DAP, or should I go all out for the CA1000T? Of course, I understand that PA10 is a totally different product when compared to CA1000T in terms of functionality, but in terms of power and sound quality, how much am I missing out if I am getting a PA10 instead of CA1000T? I understand the formula P=V^2/R, but I have heard that the measurements of Astell&Kern are done under no load, so in a real-life situation, it could be a bit different. Can PA10 or CA1000T drive the big bosses, like the Susvara, Hd800s, Elite or Utopia? Thank you so much!! PS: I really do appreciate your effort in making these videos! They are awesome! Always high-quality shots and detailed descriptions! You guys deserve much more views! I've liked every video I saw from you. A huge thanks to Sara, Ricky and fellow staff! Looking forward to your future videos! Much love!!!♥
I'm not understanding running a dap with dac "SR35" to another dac "Hugo 2". If the dac in the SR35 already converted to digital, how are you going to convert digital to digital with a second dac inline? Are you using a non-dac output port on the S35 in order to keep the signal analog until it reaches the Hugo 2? You made it sound like the combo of the two dacs working together made the sound quality better.
Hi there! So it's all about using a digital output from the SR35 to the Hugo 2, if you happen to have these 2 products. In this case, you'd likely use the USB output on the SR35. This would give you benefit of organizing and playing your music from the SR35, a device with a screen, while still enjoying the sound of the Hugo 2 since that would be the device decoding the USB signal from the SR35 to analog. Hope this helps! You can read more here: www.moon-audio.com/what-is-a-dac 🙂
@@moon-audio Makes sense now. So, when outputting digital, you're bypassing the SR35 internal DAC. I'm having some issue understanding that "bypassing" from my android phone now that the usb-c allows that usb to also output analog. How does the phone know whether to process data on its internal dac and send analog or to send digital? I'm assuming it has to do with what is connected to it. For example, I've been trying to understand whether my phone DAC is used or the DAC in my car head unit when the usb-c is cable-connected to the HU usb A input. So, the phone detects the usb-A connection and since USB-A cannot accept analog then the phone sends digital data? Or does it work some other way?
It's not possible to play digital audio out to a analog output (such as a headphone output) without a DAC (a Digital to Analog Converter.) You can't have a DAP without a DAC. Not every brand will list the DAC that they use, but many do!
@@moon-audio Sony daps does not have a dac, look it up. It uses the amp stage/s master for converting the digital signal to analogue as well. Not a tradition dac as we know it. More like two in one function if you like.
Unless you need certain input/connections all dacs sound the same. do a blind test between dCS bartok + masterclock and apple lightning donle it’s exactly the same. Which is good means both are good dacs :)
I play music through my phone at home, plugged in via a usb to rca jack. I have no DAC outside of the Samsung DAC in my Note 20. My question is, if I purchase a portable DAC for headphones, will it work for my connection via phone to my Amplifier? As in cellphone, portable DAC, then my stand alone at home Amplifier.
Yes, all DACs should work in this setup, you are just limited by the inputs and outputs. If your home amplifier has an Aux input or if you have a 3.5mm to dual RCA cable you can hook the Mojo 2 to any amp you want!
Internal dacs are also only made for the sole purpose of converting digital data to analog 😂 this video is not a very accurate explanation of how converters work but it should be good enough for most people to “get it”.

12:12 Mmkay, Mr. Mackey. DACs are important, we get it! 🤣
Thank you!
You're welcome! 🙂
does my TA-ZH1ES benefit from a DAC in your opinion?
If dacs are that important, how and why does sony daps produce music then without dac?
They don't.

My question is why 12k for a dam DAC.... MOON.
It’s the same for cables. Buying a cable over $5000… like bruh.
