Imagine being part of such a family unit. They are really blessed, I think it is rare these days to be so close. And the house, a dream. I cant even say in words how much I love it. Priceless.
I thought the same during the first few minutes of the video. Then I started to think about the date the original house was built, the place it was built and the history of Spain back there and then I had shivers going down my spine. Not really sure I would like to be a part of that family.
Kirsten, the two of you always find such out of the way and awe inspiring places to feature. You have created a way to inspire and educate us at the same time. Always a pleasurable get away........
Hi Kirsten and Family, What an awesome design. One thought comes to mind..."What is old is new again". I love when people keep the old structures and repurpose them to give them new life. This home was once a sistern which housed water to give life. Now, the sistern was given a new life and continues to sustain peoples existence. What a beautiful honour to what was, but to make it more than it had been. Keep Safe Always, Matt - Toronto, Canada
Spanish people are incredible, they are so Original and that's consist in returning to their origin by constructing beauties. Their construction are so "Generous" "Grande", like themselves!!! I admire and respect the fact that Family is the center of all !!! Muchas Gracias 🙏
Thank you Kirsten and family, you consistently make fascinating films of unusual and interesting homes and give us the personal stories of the owners. ❤
Wie wunderbar hier Mensch, Haus und Natur zusammengefügt wurden. Ich habe selten so ein schönes „Wohnobjekt“ gesehen, in das ich sofort einziehen würde. Es trifft genau meinen Geschmack.
What a dazzling design ... truly modern architecture that is site specific.. the bath needs plants in the atrum... or hanging above.. really spectacular house
I EXTREMELY love the idea of having my family close, my partner and I have really nice families and we would love to have this space, but each their own house but still together, it's such a great idea
An amazing video with an amazing house! And I love the way Kirsten interacts with the people in her videos. The home itself is so unique. The curved glass front is something I would love for my dream home. The curved ceiling as well! Combining the traditional with the modern way of building is very clever. Not a lot of people can say they live in a cistern.
It can get down to 1°C in the Madrid winter. No mention of how to keep that large glazed upstairs space warm and glazing free of condensation but I did see some radiators at the foot of the glass wall.
Not a new concept…our old family land where my dad was raised has an old farmhouse built around the well. That made it possible to draw water in the winter easily without battling the outdoor elements. Then in the 60s when they got a well pump and running water they never had to worry about the pipes freezing vs had it been a detached well that would’ve been a challenge.
Very inspiring layout! I've been a fan of your channel for years, and I've noticed that you don't typically discuss building costs. I'd be curious to know if there are cultural disparities surrounding such discussions or if there are other factors that prevent those discussions. Regardless, excellent video as always!
It normally only comes up if the home is cheap relative to other places nearby, like that guy who did a lot of the work himself to build a tower of shipping containers above his family's restaurant, or when someone lives in a shed or tent in a garden, or when that amazing home burned down in the forest near SF and the family who owned were living in temporary structures instead of spending the insurance payout to rebuild.
@@AndrewHelgeCox exactly. Given the bespoke nature of the majority of the buildings covered on the channel, it's probably not relevant either. It's not like you would build this particular house somewhere else.
Many places in North America only allow for one building per property, and buying neighbouring properties (in order to combine them) is pretty difficult. You're either stuck with stuffing everyone in one building or having to spread out.

The building is beautiful. The furnishings are also beautiful. But for me they don't marry well together. They seem to distract from each other. The finish for some parts of the building are a bit too raw for me, but still look very impressive.
It’s fabulous. I’m only concerned about that impossibly narrow passage between the living room and dining room, and the sharp corner of the low railing, especially as this gentleman gets older.
Oh God! I'am a 100 percent Filipino. I couldn't believe that even the name of our furnitures or on how we called it in our own language are also or still came from spanish word! I think, Philippines and Spain are do really share the 50 percent of the same language. 😍🥰 Unbelievable! 😂😂
Ok, I especially enjoyed this episode. It's nice to see family coexisting in such a tight but inspiring space. Keep'em coming, Kirsten; I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the networks come calling. Although, from my perspective, your current format and distribution are far more accessible and interesting. __ San Antonio, TX
In my family nobody likes the other - yes, I envy his house but the family structure I envy way more. What we see is how the owner values even granddad's old chair. What a blessed place.
Don Miguel said simply, "I love my house, but my family I love more then anything." He understands what really matters in life.
Especially when you have a family with this amount of resources. Talk about love

Living so close to your family sounds amazing. Imagine all the celebrations and family time.
...depends on the family! Exact opposite of modern dispersed American family.
I would love this! My family and I are so close we would love this

Wow! Beautiful and unique house!. I love that they preserved the vintage furnitures of their parents.😊
What a wonderful family village and house!! Come back and show all the houses!!
Surrounded by extended family in an open concept like this would be wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Love it!💗

A multi-generational estate. More families should consider this kind of lifestyle / wealth preservation.
Based on your username- California can TRY it given their approval of ADUs (accessory dwelling units) statewide 💪

Beautiful... Breath taking!!!
Beautiful house. Very easy to live in. Unique.
Some beautiful repurposing and innovation going on there.
That's a gorgeous repurpose of structure. That it was thought thru and planned for is how the old study places can be utilized.
What a dazzling design ... truly modern architecture that is site specific.. the bath needs plants in the atrum... or hanging above.. really spectacular house
One of my favorite episodes. Yet, there are so many favorites!
That curved wall is mind blowing and the rest of the house is all for living and not showing off how organised they r. A maximalist paradise

At least they can say they live in a toilet in London, hm?
Note to self.....flush the London holiday plans.

Amazing project!

I would be happy just to have some family left. You are very lucky.

People shouldn't discuss politics, religion or money.
if it looks expensive, it probably is, and no bodies business but the owner’s.
@@carolharris2357 lol. my mom always said “Women should never discuss politics or religion” back in the 1950’s-60’s. It was something I ignored.
