I think the change is overall for the better, making them a much more reliable money source. But, at the same time, there is something to be said for the dopamine hit of going ages without seeing any Legend roe, and then all of a sudden getting 10 out of nowhere.
Very interesting! So in short - on release, Legend fish drastically dominated. 15k p/d with cracker, 7k without. Everything else was around 3k, except for Crimsonfish that was at around 4.5k. Post-nerf, all non-legends got evened out. Angler became a 3k p/d, carp & glacier got even with about 3.4k, crimsonfish turned to 5k, and legend was shafted and turned to 6k (less than half, way bigger of a hit vs the others) Post-nerf/buff (this one) again, everything was evened out. But due to how math works, most fish were slightly punished. Crimsonfish was downed to 3.5k, with angler being 3.2k and glacier/carp staying about the same at 3.4k. Legend was slightly buffed at this turnout, turning to 7k from 6k. That's a more accurate 'half' and that seems to make Crimsonfish about as good as the rest, instead of being a more solid first placer. Overall, nerf. Buff for legend. For reliability and luck, this is a good change.
I hope the patch comes soon for console, the Switch version has a game crash bug where if you file for divorce and end the day the game crashes, there's also a bug with the racoon wife shop where only the 4 basic seeds are available regardless of how many racoon requests you do
The " trash panda" 4 seeds glitch stinks . I'm almost 5 years into this in switch and another issue is I've only gotten one prismatic shard, the one at the forge,,, it's driving me nuts .
@@wolffin100do skull cavern runs on great luck days, and eat a spicy eel for bonus luck, breaking iridium ore nodes for the whole day doing that allowed me to get like 3 of them
Just a note here: days where a pond produces nothing, it adds +1 to the amount of items you will get the next day, if you roll production on that day. There does appear to be a “maximum” you can harvest (which is where animal crackers come in). So, if your legendary fish doesn’t produce for 3 days, and it produces on the fourth, you will get 4 roe. An animal cracker will turn this into 8. However, ponds only seem to stockpile up to 10, so even if you have no production for 28 days, the most you can get is potentially 20. Though, most ponds produce before you get much beyond 5 days anyway. By and large, production of aged legend roe isn’t cost effective when compared to most crops. A pond takes up 12 squares and will basically only produce like 3000 every few days. You may wait like 3 days to get six roe, then need to wait another 3 days to age that roe to get 18000 cash. This is a great cash infusion, but most recurring crops will make more money than that over the same amount of time (by recurring, I mean it grows back without needing replanting). The 18000 needs to be divided by 6 for the days and then divided by 12 for its “cost to benefit ratio”. Which is… what? 600 a day (doing quick math in my head)? Compare to baseline strawberries at 120x12=1440 and you can harvest twice in six days…. Legend roe is really just a quick cash infusion every week or so. It won’t make you rich very quick.
A fish pond takes 25 squares and the gold she showed was per day (~3500 per day aged, with animal crackers). A 25 square foot of strawberries (let’s ignore the sprinkler) produces every 4 days (not every 3). The average value if selling straight at level 10 farming, even without fertilizer, is ~150g, so that’s 937 gold per day for the same space. Of course, apples to apples would be kegging it to maximize value, and I don’t think the calculation took into account the time (or space) to preserve the roe. Strawberries would make 12,600g in 10.25 days and roe makes 7046 in 4 days, so that’s 1229g/day vs 1,761, approximately. Aka, roe is STILL better even when you use the right square footage. Additionally, you can put fish ponds on places that aren’t plantable.
@ my point was less “strawberries are better than legend roe” and more “efficiency needs to be calculated per used square per day”. Each square used on the farm is valuable. Unless you’ve picked a farm without much tillable land (a handicap the player places on themselves), then there won’t be much space only usable by fish ponds. Realistically, you have to treat legend roe almost like ancient fruit. It’s a cash infusion about once a week, but you could be making more money a lot faster for the same space. The problem with crops is just inconsistencies in price selling and seasons. Basically, it’s far better to put legend fish ponds on the main farm for “consistent” income. But, when you have access to the Island, it’s better to fill it with a very good and pricey crop that makes a lot of money. Still, I think some crops in some seasons will outperform the legend fish pond per square. I just don’t know which off-hand. And, I don’t care enough to calculate them all out versus processing methods and applied bonuses. Especially with so much random stuff that can affect prices any given day.
@ there’s no price variability day to day in sdv, are you thinking of Animal Crossing? If you just mean Artisan vs not, everyone min maxing has it, so it’s not a consideration. Starfruit and Ancient fruit both beat out fishponds, square for square. However there’s another aspect to the game as well - having a variety of things can make it more interesting and cozy.
@ price variability with crops comes from their star quality. There is no guaranteed way to make all harvests iridium quality. If there were… crops would very likely be a lot more valuable than they already are. Also, I don’t play with Artisan. I like getting my two Sweet Gem Berry harvests a season. Each square being worth about 214 a day is pretty nice. Ginger island is pretty great. Agriculturalist is rarely good for any more harvests per season, but it does shine with Gem Berries. Even if I’m turning about 50% of each harvest back into seeds for next planting. But, I also spend a lot of time in the mines and stuff instead of maximizing profit. Artisan is optimal for min maxing cash, but I tend to not want to deal with all the busywork involved. Especially in cluttering up my house or farm with processing objects for it. There are faster ways to get rich than legend roe. But, it is a nice cash infusion each week.
@@XxTaiMTxX Legend fish ponds are a better use of space than all crops on the base farm over a one year period. The most profitable crop to plant over a one year period is ancient fruit, processing into wine (not considering casks because they are very limited). Starfruit is better within one season, but the crops you'd have to plant in spring and fall would overall make less money. The maximum harvest you can get in a year with hyper-speed gro is 10. A 5 x 5 plot of land can hold 24 ancient fruit plants, minus 1 for the sprinkler. Base ancient fruit wine sells for 2310. There are 112 days in a year. Thus, ancient fruit will get you (24 x 2310 x 10)/112, which is 4950 gold/day. This is substantially less than the 7084 gold/day that aged legend II roe will get you. Evidently, the main benefit of fish ponds is that they produce all year round. They still aren't they absolute best money maker in the game, but they are definitely up there, and clear any crop placed outdoors.
I like this change, i didn't really bother with fish ponds before because i have terrible rng luck and never got anything. I finally had a reason to put a few on my farm!
It really doesnt bother my play style. Being on console, I always had alot of Animals and fish ponds anyways. Now, I just dont have to make and grow as many starfruit and kegs, and can put all of my legendary fish to more use thansitting in a chest somewhere. Even the patch for teasaplings didnt hurt my playstyle, because my money making process has always been balanced between everything in the game, not just one or two things. That way , I experience the whole of the game.
Yeah, I like that. I'll have to think about the rules a bit. A fish pond takes up exactly 5x5, so can we not count preserves jars, since they would go beyond the 5x5 limit? Maybe we can take the average for multiple 5x5 spaces, but they have to fit in the grid, so sheds and other buildings are off limits? I'll give it some thought. Thanks for watching and thanks for the suggestion!

Fish ponds have always been a waste. I’ve only ever used it to get sturgeon roe-caviar for my perfection runs, which now that you can just fish up roe-fish ponds are trash. Hot garbage even. 😂
lmao. my legend pond gave me 18 roe in 1 harvest which can get aged and costs 7k each. no maintenance no nothing. Lava eel roe with the current changes to fish meta one lava eel gives 4.4k gold per smoked and with artisan and angler, regrows on fish ponds etc maybe you're just not that smart or very lazy
Strongly disagree. Despite having over a billion dollars just from diamonds alone, fish Ponds with legendary II+Golden Animal Crackers seem to be the way to go from now on for sure
@@AriusAB yeah and? My last perfection run had 960 ancient fruit planted on my farm to go into dehydrators while the entirety of ginger island was nothing but starfruit for 1200 kegs.
