***Game on xbox is still running 1.6.9.13: I'm definitely disabling automatic updates for as long as it will let me keep playing without it** FML... I had swapped 80ponds from lava eel to legend IIs I do not want to have to do these all over again if they aren't more profitable than maxed out lava eels this is wrong and needs to be buffed to at least be an improvement.
I usually kept my legendary fish anyway. Maybe I'm weird, but when there's something you can only get one of, I tend to keep it rather then sell it or whatever. So even if they did get adjusted to be a bit less powerful I would use this option anyway, cuz I wanna keep em haha
In the 1.6 update, you can acquire multiple legendary fish with challenge bait (but it will be tough to get a perfect catch) or a pan with fisher enchantment (but this won't work if the fish is caught).
I always put them in a fish tank. If I have a house design that fits a fish tank I’ll have it in my house, otherwise I keep them in the Community Center fish tank
i love it when you mention your team of scientists its so funny to imagine xD ive been a pond enjoyer for a while now so this update is soo cool! i dont think ill make a pond for every legendary since i dont like ALL the colors together but crimsonfish sons are definitely gonna replace a large portion if not all of my lava eel ponds on my beach farm! im gonna keep my OG iridium legendaries in aquariums though to preserve their quality
The Legend pond will finally be an efficient use of farm space. You can make like 500 g/day from preserves jars in the unmodified game, and around 200-250 g/farmed tile. The fish pond takes a 5x5 square (25 total tiles) on the farm map, where machines take a single tile and can often be placed outside the farm map. However, if your numbers in the video are correct, a Legend farm pond (at just over 300 g/tile) already beats most crops, with a minor* amount of support from preserve jars to age the roe. Not to mention the convenience of continuous operation. * -- Since you get ~1 roe/day per fish pond, you only need ~2 jars per pond. A comparable plot of starfruit would need a bit more than 4 jars, or 11 kegs.
The Stardew Valley fish farmers can't stop winning! Space is also a limiting factor. Especially if you want the other fish ponds for useful items. The problem becomes clearer on the farm maps with fewer tiles where you can place them.
Wow, i didn't know about a new SV update. That's a nice surprise! And finally legendary fish ponds without mods. Again great video and research! So i had the urge to look into the code and here is what i found: The legendary fish ponds work mostly like normal fish ponds. So a population of 1 will always have a chance of 77% to get no produce. Fits the data of your experiment. After that the fishs produce is seperated by price. So a legendary fish worth between 501g and 1000g produces 1-17 roe per day with a 100% chance (after the population check, so resulting in 23%). All amounts should be equally likely. Like we can see in your data, there seems to be no trend and just randomness. So in a simple table for all legendary fish: Fish Price | Amount of Roe | Notes 0-500g | 8-28 (23%) | not in the game without mods 501-1000g | 1-17 (23%) | Mr. Angler, Glacierfish and Mutant Carp (and Extended Family) 1001-1500g | 1-11 (23%) | Crimsonfish (+Extended Family) 1501-2000g | 1-9 (23%) | not in the game without mods 2001-2500g | 1-9 (18.4%) | not in the game without mods, 80% chance to produce after 23% chacne resulting in 18.4% 2501-3000g | 1-9 (16.1%) | not in the game without mods, 70% chance to produce 3001-3500g | 1-9 (13.8%) | not in the game without mods, 60% chance to produce 3501-4000g | 1-9 (11.5%) | not in the game without mods, 50% chance to produce 4001-4500g | 1-9 (10.35%) | not in the game without mods, 45% chance to produce 4501-5000g | 1-9 (9.2%) | Legend and Legend II, 40% chance to produce 5001g+ | 1-9 (8.05%) | not in the game without mods, 35% chance to produce So for example the Crimsonfish should produce on average 6 roes on 23% of the days. So in total 1.38 roe/day. I didn't dig deeper yet, so i can't confirm if there are any other changes to those stats in the code. For example the chance to get nothing out of the legend fish pond should be over 90% but you still got less than 80% of the days nothing. But in the most likely files i couldn't find anything changing these values. So maybe the chance to get roe from the legend got reduced in the 1.6.10 update? (I looked into it and the file really changed, but i can't see what changed)
Oh, interesting. Thanks for looking into this and posting. Once everything has settled, maybe I'll have to get the scientists to review the math based on the game code. The good news is, even if Legend dropped down to 9.2%, it's still a lot of gold! Thanks Sephi! 💕
The most a Legend (II) could sell for before smoking is 15k. You’re saying these fish ponds give bursty output that averages higher than an iridium star, best profession, unsmoked fish every day? That’s wild! With a good fishing setup, I've caught upwards of 10 of them in a day. Thats 150k per day, or ~1M per week ever after.
when you said "15k gold for day for Legend" I was like "hm that's gonna get nerfed" LOL. hopefully it doesn't but... wow! I'd rather they not get nerfed and instead we get something else to balance it out xD like more things to buy with all that gold we're making...
I mean 15k per day is fairly time consuming to reach since you need mastery to get the animal cracker so it’s not going to kick in before other big money makers are available
Honestly, it doesn't seem *too* crazy given that (1) it takes until farming mastery, plus a legendary fish, and you can only get one until you unlock the walnut room (at which point you're late-game anyway) and (2) many other gold-generation methods were buffed for late-game (non-pig animals, fishing via smoking, combat via trinkets, and even panning), so while it's large, it's not *that* crazy. Maybe a factor of 2 nerf, given that it's passive, but not an order-of-magnitude nerf. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but honestly fish ponds kinda needed the buff.
Well considering it seems the issue concerning concerned ape is terror at the though of fish ponds being in any way valuable, I wouldn't be surprised if these get nerfed.
@ I would have argued it’s a fair tradeoff since you can only get one of each but the fact that the repeatable ones can also go in there does make it pretty strong. I don’t want it to get nerfed but we will see 😂
I wonder if eric was watching all the 100 days videos and saw everyone selling their smoked legends for such a high profit, so instead he added this as an alternative so they get kept around lol. He's been known to watch content about the game, so it's not out of the realm of possibility to me. He also seems like he's (rightfully) attached to the rare items in the game and wants them to be kept as mementos/a reminder of a hard task you worked hard to complete not just something you chuck in the shipping bin, so this is a win for both situations. I'm curious to see how long it takes to get enough aged roe to make it worth more than a smoked legend with all the perks if artistan and fishing levels 5 and 10. Either way I love this little update in general!
I can help with that. So each legend fish produces roughly 2 roe on average per day. An aged legend roe with artisan is worth over 9000 g. A smoked iridium legend is worth 42k. So, the answer is at least 5 aged legend II roe with artisan, which takes on average around 3 days. Totally worth the fish pond. Not worth to smoke them at all.
Wow this is good. When i read patch notes for 1.6.9 i didn't expect new content, and when i found out about legendary roe i thougth it would be on par with Lava Eel. This is huge! Kinda wish it worked back when i did my Sellout farm for Joja Mart achievement. I fished so much i had level 10 by Spring 20. Didn't get to catch The Legend though :(
Better then I thought it'd be, which is awesome. Finally being able to farm legend Roe really gives you a reason to catch one asap, can catch one in the games first spring and just live on Roe
Thank you for doing this. I've been smoking my legendary fish for immediate profits, so... I'll have to go get the secondary versions for fish ponds. The colors are cool!
Nice video! I'm hesitant, I like displaying them in fish aquariums / displays or whatever they're called. And I have a bunch of fish ponds already. But it does seem like a big passive money income so yeah
I think it's great that fishing is getting a buff like this that's useful for late game money making! Farming and mining are pretty good, and the fish smoker definitely made an improvement, but it still isn't super comparable to farming especially because the cave jellies needed to craft the smokers are hard to get in larger quantities. I'm probably still going to take the extended family quest and use it to catch a bunch of legend II's for smoking, but definitely will keep one for a fish pond alongside my regular legend
Thank you for the Science!! Love the colours, love the prices... 79% of the time doing nothing? That makes up for the prices. I love Fish Ponds. I just wish getting Seaweed was easier. I have some worlds that my RNG is really bad.
Ive always been a fish pond enjoyer but it has always been a shame that they pale in comparison to to kegs and wine when it came to profit, plus if you really want to rake in the money you would need to allot a LOT of space. Now that the legends can now be placed in them, and the fact that you can get absurd amounts of roe from them, means I can finally begin my Fish Pond-only farm!
My last run was beach farm focused on ponds. A group of lava eel ponds is pretty good and low maintenance compared to using that land for barns and grass or pig space. Unless you use a petter, grabber and automate mod.. but then the ponds are also down to transferring roe to the smoking shed once a day. I'd use the sprinkler space for CC and cooking, with some starfruit as supplement. Greenhouse is ancient fruit with pomegranate along the sides, always. I know that hops is better with automate but I have to draw a line somewhere. It's meant to remove some of the tedium so I can take more time to smell the roses.
I use fish ponds to get items, not really profit, profit is side thing which is caused by failing to get what I actually want, so I dont think this is OP, also I dont know exact math, but barn filled with pigs or sheep needs about same place as pond, lets assume second pond size as outdoor area for them, and it is still better and more versitile, with sheep or any animal that produces inside building, and auto grabber, you need even less maintanance, this is bemefitial that it runs on full scale right away, but dont grow at all, so maybe if you dont have other fish or if you have just some spare space for pond, it is surely great option, else I guess collector/builder/roleplayer things are bigger benefit of those
I love the science videos. Fish Ponds are legit now. given that its almost totally passive income its absolutely worth setting this up and letting it cook asap year 2. Legend roe is probably overtuned atm. I'd like to see it scaled back to 900-1K so its better than the others but the margin is less. I'd rather have the assorted colors balanced as currently its 3x more valuable to run the Legend.
This is basically the easiest way to rushdown for the best income in the game. Start the game fishing day and night to quickly boost the level to 10 then craft all the necessary resources you need for further fishing, sell the caught great fishes for more profit, buy the best rod with the best lures for Legendary fishing, buy the best available fishing skill boosting food at Gus in his gives special food day if available, use the weeds and some quarry stones for Fish Pond purchases, lastly fish the Legendary fishes in their well-known location and well-known time and get the suberb benefit of gold out of them.
My one and only perfectly caught legend is safely in my tank. Can't believe it happened. One in about 30 catches. Stupidly lucky. Didn't deserve such an easy catch.
@@keiharris332 Well done! Before quality bobbers were added I didn't consider iridium quality legendary fish to be feasible (aside from maybe the easier ones)
Okay I don't care for anything else in the video, I had no idea you could eject all fish with that button at once, I always fished the pond empty before clicking the empty pond button...
It's a little hard to get exact numbers, cause something like a lava eel has a bunch of different produce that may have more or less value to you than the sell price alone, and it may depend on professions too. To be competitive, it will require smoking an eel from the pond every 5 days. Assuming all the right professions and free coal, I think you can get around 1700g/day, which would be enough to beat the anglers. Golden animal crackers don't increase value from harvested fish though, so that only brings lava eels up to about 2800g/day, which means any legendary pond with a golden animal cracker will beat out any standard pond. Hopefully that helps :)
To get the most out of it, you'll need to run them through preserves jars, but I guess it's your call. One nice thing about preserves jars is, with legendary fish, it makes the money stream a little bit more consistent. Since the roe comes in bigger batches less often with legendaries, you can spread the aged roe production out every few days until the next batch of roe, which is sometimes a long dry spell. Thanks for watching!
I think this change was necessary to balance out the smoker - I got to the desert festival year 1 by catching and smoking the Legend on the 13th of Spring; it’s not 42k without farming 10 (or iridium quality), but 22,500 in a single fish is still massive less than 2 weeks into the game. The fishpond being this good makes smoking & selling more of a decision again 😊
Generally no to the iridium rod; it can sometimes take 2 or 3 tries to catch the legend without tackle, but you *usually* get that many in a rainy day. I’m always level 6 by the 5th and usually level 9 by the 8th; you’re either level 3 or 4 before passing out on the 2nd (and I personally reset the day if I’ve had bad enough luck not to be level 2 + 1800g worth of fish by 5pm to get the fiberglass rod). I never have any other skill raised, so I obviously don’t have the ability to make rain totems - a rainy day after hitting level 9 (+ trout soup) is purely luck, but happens within that week more often than not.
Comparing to smoking them, it isn't that broken. It's good money, sure, but there is a lot of other things that can give a lot of money that require less.
Legend fish with golden animal crackers means you attained mastery at least once. At that point you could just grab that trinket to get hundreds of thousands per day from combat. The one thing this has to it's advantage is ease, and passive income.
I shouldn’t be disappointed that you can’t reproduce them, since it’s already beyond expectations to have legend fish ponds at all. But it’s annoying that now I have to choose between ponds or display fish tanks- and I like to collect 10 of everything in chests too. I know we can get however many of the legendary family members we want, but I want to collect OG legends. Fish ponds would be great or even better I wish I could catch 1 per season, so they refresh every year.
I so agree, I currently have all my legends in tanks. I have one legend in multiple green tanks you can get from the racoons with frogs and snails in there for them to have friends. I have always wanted legend ponds but idk if I want to lose my perfect aquariums for it
The other day, I managed to catch the Legend and get some Roe off of it at the same time. Given that you couldn't put them in fish ponds, this was the only way to obtain Legendary Fish Roe (you had to get it to drop with the chest and catch the fish) and you only had one chance. Needless to say, I was stoked and wanted to put it on a pedestal. Fast forward to this update. Years of academy training wasted!
Update 2:
We looked at the numbers after the nerf! There's good news and bad news... lol
ua-cam.com/video/CiGs_xPkwqw/v-deo.html
Update 1: It looks like CA may have nerfed the legendary fish ponds. No numbers available yet. We'll have to see how much profits are impacted.
Patch Notes:
Minor update 1.6.13
A small update that fixes some bugs and adjusts a few things.
Balance changes:
Fixed legendary fish in fish ponds being more profitable than intended.
RIP legendary fish ponds, it was fun while it lasted
Back to lava eel we go. Legend you are getting smoked
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
There are a way to use the gamecode to reestablish the odds?

@ If I go for that, I’m waiting until I have the advanced iridium rod. I’ll need every advantage I can get if I wanna catch 3 of every legend.
Bobbers are key. I like using the cork bobber, or the one that sticks to fish, depending on who I'm going for.
I always put them in a fish tank. If I have a house design that fits a fish tank I’ll have it in my house, otherwise I keep them in the Community Center fish tank
@@tanakisoupSame!! I love putting my legendaries in a tank
wake up babe new fish ponds just dropped
Wtf why, put them back in!
I have 52 fish ponds with lava eels in them.
I also have 19 legend fish in reserve.
Holy moly...
5:04 'They blow standard fish ponds out of the water' - pun intended?
Haha. Always!
Thanks for watching 💕
i love it when you mention your team of scientists its so funny to imagine xD

Wow, i didn't know about a new SV update. That's a nice surprise!
And finally legendary fish ponds without mods.
Again great video and research! So i had the urge to look into the code and here is what i found:
The legendary fish ponds work mostly like normal fish ponds.
So in a simple table for all legendary fish:
Fish Price | Amount of Roe | Notes
0-500g | 8-28 (23%) | not in the game without mods
501-1000g | 1-17 (23%) | Mr. Angler, Glacierfish and Mutant Carp (and Extended Family)
1001-1500g | 1-11 (23%) | Crimsonfish (+Extended Family)
1501-2000g | 1-9 (23%) | not in the game without mods
2001-2500g | 1-9 (18.4%) | not in the game without mods, 80% chance to produce after 23% chacne resulting in 18.4%
2501-3000g | 1-9 (16.1%) | not in the game without mods, 70% chance to produce
3001-3500g | 1-9 (13.8%) | not in the game without mods, 60% chance to produce
3501-4000g | 1-9 (11.5%) | not in the game without mods, 50% chance to produce
4001-4500g | 1-9 (10.35%) | not in the game without mods, 45% chance to produce
4501-5000g | 1-9 (9.2%) | Legend and Legend II, 40% chance to produce
5001g+ | 1-9 (8.05%) | not in the game without mods, 35% chance to produce
So for example the Crimsonfish should produce on average 6 roes on 23% of the days. So in total 1.38 roe/day.
I didn't dig deeper yet, so i can't confirm if there are any other changes to those stats in the code. For example the chance to get nothing out of the legend fish pond should be over 90% but you still got less than 80% of the days nothing. This is what fish ponds needed so I don’t think there will be any nerfs
I have been wanting this for so long, i keep all my legend fish in tanks but i have always wanted to be able to put them in a fishpond
Imagine catching iridium quality legendary fish and then accidentally downgrading it permanently to normal quality. That would blow.
Now when you say, "my team of scientists," i picture your fuzzy little pets.
Okay I don't care for anything else in the video, I had no idea you could eject all fish with that button at once, I always fished the pond empty before clicking the empty pond button...
I think I would've appreciated a comparison to lava eels and the blob fish, but oh well. I still didn't know just how profitable their roe would be.
Does this take the time in the preserve jars into consideration? Because I’m always impatient and too lazy to age the roe
You reached level 10 fishing and bought the iridium rod that early? Respect! Plus you needed it to rain in time.
I never have any other skill raised, so I obviously don’t have the ability to make rain totems - a rainy day after hitting level 9 (+ trout soup) is purely luck, but happens within that week more often than not.
they are definitly gonna nerf the fishes, thats too broken.
I mean you already convinced me on fish ponds, now, more so.
im a big fan of ponds, i always get some lava eel, because they are good source of money and they look nice, but this is a huge upgrade 😮
Same, I have always kept ponds of every fish that changes the water color, which includes lava eels, and I keep a blobfish pond bc I adore them.
I think you can get multiple legends through panning with the fisher enchantment, as long as you haven't caught it normally.
@@Storm-li1re Really? What’s the drop chance on that?
Would be funny if they had quests and required like 50 iridium bars, 20 prismatic shards or 10 pearls
@yoult
I think that's a really good idea! The gold is so good, it would totally make sense to have to earn it with a quest like that.
I so agree, I currently have all my legends in tanks. I have one legend in multiple green tanks you can get from the racoons with frogs and snails in there for them to have friends. I have always wanted legend ponds but idk if I want to lose my perfect aquariums for it
IMO I feel that there should be an upgrade to the fishponds to allow for legendary fish. Normal fish would get a boost in those upgraded ponds
I think they will nerf the price of the extended family qi quest fish since you can capture multiple Legend II.
Nahh, its been in the game for a WHILE, im sure concerned ape thinks its cool
Insane buff
Im getting 49.588-63.756g every day from the legend pond. I consistently get 7-9 roe. Thought it was a bug at first
I always thought fish ponds were worth building. This just reaffirms that belief.
I guess i should try to catcha legend... I will try but will be buying waivers for the legendary fish i cant catch before 5 years have passed..
Wait what is this family Quest thing about
That was my dream!
Thank god i somehow managed to not get and sell the Legend by year 3 (its summer)
Well that video didn't age that well. They just "fixed" Legendary Fish Pond income produce with a straight up nerf.
I love making ponds early game, why let sturgeons go to waste? Get that caviar going!
if only they kept the bug where you can double fishpond item everyday
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
❤ for the Scientists
I got 6 roes from mutant as its my only legendary fish i got rn
So ig its okay
Legend absolutely gonna get nerfed. Values probably cut in half at least.
Bruh I literally just caught and sold all of them I'm pissed
