Thank you to all my Patrons! - Розваги
Wait, you've never heard La Villa Strangiato before?! How can you call yourself a drummer if you have not listened to this a millions of times? If I was told I could only ever listen to a single Rush song for the rest of my life, THIS IS IT. There is endless things to find in here with every new listen.
How much fun was that?! Alex as your best friend means never a dull moment.
But it can get tiresome. 😅
Whenever I see Alex goofing off here, I'm reminded of the clip "Still No Guitar", when they were performing LVS during a show on their Time Machine Tour, and he turned technical issues with his guitar into another comedic moment. And for his greatest comedic moment ever, be sure to check out his acceptance speech when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013. Cheers from Toronto!

The greatest Rock instrumental ever
The Rio crowd was electric! They had a fever, and the only cure was RUSH!!
When I saw that you were showing a song that included an Alex Lifeson "singing" solo, there was no question that I'd watch.
Exit stage left is the best version of this masterpiece.
I 100% agree 👍
False
Yes that's the best live version, much better than this one. Overall tighter and Alex's solo is amazing on that version.
Rock star? Lol
I'm partial to the Time Machine tour version. The Cleveland recording that's out on UA-cam has better sound and in particular Lifeson's guitar is brighter and easier to hear. ua-cam.com/video/Z3zlRdksakI/v-deo.html
RUSH is the reason I went to see Band-Maid twice in 2023.
I was widowed in 2015 and was busy raising my two sons. I really love RUSH, but I had no time for rock concerts,. But still, I promised myself that I would someday take my sons to see RUSH in concert. When they disbanded in 2018 I was disappointed in myself that I had missed my chance to see this great band. Later, in 2020, I was heartbroken when I heard that Neil had died and I promised myself that I would make the effort to take my sons to see all the great bands on my bucket list of concerts. I had picked out at least 5 shows that were scheduled over the rest of 2020 and I vowed to take my sons to those shows. King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Devo, Kiss, and a few I no longer remember, but then the lockdown happened and all my plans were put on hold.
I stumbled across Band-Maid in 2021 and realized that I had to see them. I missed the October 2022 tour, but when they announced the 10 ant tour I bought tickets to the two closest Okyuji: Columbus and Detroit. I am so glad I had the chance to see them.
La Villa Strangiato was based on a series of nightmares that Alex Lifeson had especially when they were on the road.
Besides being a fantastic guitarist Alex is a total lovable goofball.
Geddy once said he is the the funniest man he has ever met in his life and they have known each other since they were 13.
Cheers
Neil writes in one of his books (I forget which one)that Alex is the funniest man on the planet.
Been a Rush fan since I was 16. I’m now 59 and this song is one of my all time favorites from them. It just never gets old.
I know right. Fan since I was 16, 1975 & counting.
Probably saw them play this live a dozen times and it never gets old.
I miss RUSH so much. 🤘🤘
And this is why RUSH is one of the greatest rock bands ever! Alex is one of the most underrated guitarists but I think he’s ok with that because he knows what he can do & how many fans he has all around the world. His silliness makes him all the more lovable. Rock on guys!
Rush is the inspiration for so many bands and individual instrumentalists. Sure you've heard many of their licks before.
Lol, I was reminded of Jim Gaffigan too, but with a touch of Monty Python zaniness thrown in.
Interesting note about Strangiato: The band set out to record the song in one take; however, it ultimately required three separate takes. According to Lee, "We spent more time recording 'Strangiato' than the entire Fly by Night album."
If you like this song, listen to Niels drum solo on the rio tour CD The most incredible drummer of all time! And that drum solo is 20 minutes long! And check out how massive his drum set is compared to most drummer's
Sorry, I finally got a chance to watch this. I’m guessing you’ve probably heard snippets before. Hopefully you’ve been able to hear the original or a version with better audio. My favorite rock instrumental of all time. Everything is absolutely stellar. Neil’s insane. Gedday kills it ofc, but Alex..yes, Alex! This song came from his nightmare but his first solo - glorious! And then his insanity rant at the mic! 🔥🎸🥁🎤🎼🔥😎✌🏼
I love isolating Neil to listen in these big epic tunes.
I forget how good Neil was. I mean I know he's amazing but his cadence/tempo is ridiculous
As the old saying goes, musicians use a metronome to keep time, a metronome uses Neil Peart. 😊
If you want to see more of Alex being a goofball (with Geddy), do a search for Rush beer ads. Yes, they oversee a line of Rush beer.
one of their better ones. and who transitions UP and makes it work? Neil Peart that is who. Great reaction. keep it up.
Always found the guitar mix on this version to be too low. So many better versions of this including the studio version. Hope you will check out the studio and even the official video which is actually a live recording.
When I was in high school in the 80s, this song was the yard stick, if you could play this on drums, you automatically had some serious street cred.
RUSH are 3 very silly men, besides being RUSH. Their sense of humor is legendary. Alex leads the way.
Fun fact: Alex’s stream of consciousness thing changed each night through the whole tour. My personal favourite: “thank you god for making me not be Paris Hilton”
You should also watch the original MV from years ago. They were much younger.
Rio is their #2 concert all time
You got Lucky
🏆🏆🏆🏆!
Alex talks to the 1st 3 rows. 😊 unless they read lips
7/8 drum pattern.. a Rush staple
I love it! I used 7/8 on the chorus of my new song. Such a fun feel!
Wrong! The similar drum riff is I think Yyz, instrumental???
Holy crap, it's not a Japanese band...
♥ “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~ Romans 15:13
nope nope nope. this is not about Neil's play. it is Alex's mastery here. Sorry stopped watching.
