I have a natural gas stove. I live in the deep south, so I rarely have problems with low humidity. When I do, I like to put a pot of water on the stove, and put a low fire under it. Keeps the house toasty. As a bonus, I can make Soup, or Tea!

This man is doing us all a wonderful service by giving of his time and sharing what he knows and wants nothing in return. Yet, there are those who make negative comments. Go figure!! There is a way to make a comment and a way not to. Maybe some of you ought to think how you would feel if you were standing in his shoes and reading these comments.

Thanks. Some people just don't understand the difference between an insult and constructive criticism . Constructive criticism is something i always welcome, insults i can do without. The internet has caused people to be just down right mean. Most people would never say rotten things to your face, but they do on the net.
I keep going and ignore the insults because there are people like you that appreciate free ideas that can make a difference in there life.

Your voice is so calming and your videos are actually very relaxing. Humidifier... That is why my Mom allways said to put a pot of water on the stove for steam... It kept our nose bleeds down since our skin didn't dry out, and also kept up the humidity. I will get a humidifier soon. I am in FL and signed up for 24 month average billing about 2 year ago(started watching your videos about that time also). My monthly average started at 90 a month. I have used your methods and went to 85.5 in a couple months and just this month it updated to 65 a month. I think I am ready to add solar and wind to make it 0 or even make a little money. THANK YOU FOR YOU VIDEOS!!!

you should not need a humidifier in Florida because the humidity is usually around 50% in rare cases it may get down to 30%. I never get shocked by static electricity in the house. when I lived in the state of PA I always got shocked turning on lights I put nylon screws on the switch plate and used plastic switch plates. A Humidifier would been a good investment, in PA.

To get watts, multiply the amps times the volts. Anything you buy is required to have this information on a sticker somewhere on the device, cable companies and their cheap boxes aren't required to since you are not buying the box, the old ones used to have the volts and amps,, say 120v time warner box and 5 amps multiply the two and you get 600 watts which is crazy and just as much as your refrigerator,,,, in case you didn't want to buy the kill-a-watt meter.
My Grandmother since radios, tvs, appliances,,,,,, were invented she always has and does unplug everything from the wall that she isn't actually using,,, How genius is she and how much money has she saved in her 98 years. thx for the video

For those who are home all day with small children, how about switching off water heater at panel when not using it. We used to turn it on in the morning and leave it on through morning showers, cooking and dishes and then off until time for cooking, dishes, baths in the evening. Then off again. Water heater had enough reserve hot water for most of the day. That, and letting dishes dry normally, by opening door and not using dishwasher drying cycle. Just these two things saved us an amazing amount.

Shutting off the water valves of the water heater helps to keep the heat inside the tank. If you use plastic valves instead f metal ones, it helps too.

😲 OMG Jeff this is fantastic what a great video I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am a disabled woman sick with Cancer. Now as you know social security checks are not that much and having to survive on pay check to pay check is hard enough. I would always pull the blinds closed and pull my curtains closed as well in the summer when the A.C. is on I let the house cool down then raise the A.C. so that it will not come on as much. By me doing this I find helps a lot to keep the house nice and cool. Then what ever room I'm going to be in for several several hour I run a fan above me. Then at night if it's cool out I will open every window in the house. As for winter I put up these plastic sheets and ran a hair dryer over them and they got very stiff keeping the cold air out I forgot what it's called but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. In my old house it was so cold there that the landlord would do anything about the windows that seriously needed to be replaced the cold air that was coming though was crazy. I went to a hard wear store and purchased some cell Tex sheets its light weight and it is a form of insulation so it keeps your home toasty. I measured my windows and made them fit the inside of the window also making a peak a boo window on that so I could look out of the window when needed. I kept it in place with duck tape around the edges and we were very toasty and warm. I must say it doesn't look very attractive from the out side when all you see is silver windows but when you are faced with five feet of snow and its a snow blizzard out side you cannot go anywhere and you are trying to stay warm this works. Your ideas are fantastic and I'm going to give them ago because I have had electric bills as high as two hundred and fifty. I've got them down quite a bit but with your ideas I think I can get it lower. When I do wash or run the tumble dryer or run the dish washer I always wait till after 6pm I was told that the rate drops after 6pm do you know if this is true?? I do have a question for you tho I'm on full support oxygen I have a machine that runs around the clock twenty-four hours a day I have to be hooked up to it all the time and when I leave the house I have tanks. My question is Jeff how could I keep the cost of that down do you have any ideas. I tried using the tanks in the day and the machine at night but then the tanks run out so fast and if there was an emergency I wouldn't have any back up in case of loss of power. I would appreciate any advice you could give me Jeff thanks so much for your advice and reading this. I have subscribed to you and will be notified of any new videos you put out I look forward to hearing from you and watching more of your very interesting and helpful Video's. Take care thanks so much Susie.

You ROCK Dude! Thank you for spreading the word. We all could use the extra money saved on our electric bill. I use to agree with you about buying the daylight bulbs over the ones that put off an amber hue. However look at people's faces under the different lights. The amber makes people look better. The daylight ones shows all the wrinkles. Then again if you don't care how you look, go for the daylight bulbs. Helps with depression. Oh one more thing. People should check with their local utility company to see if they offer deep discounts on LED bulbs. Mine does. I got a pack of 8 LED bulbs for $8.99 and I bought them at my local hardware store. I'm fortunate that my utility company is not for profit. So there is an incentive to move everyone to LED, saves them from having to purchase electricity on he spot market. Thank you again for this video.

It sure does. Remember the tube TVs when you turn it off you still hear it hum a little it's still using power. In my house the rule is if you aren't using it plug it out especially the toaster and the microwave as this also reduces the chance of fires. The only thing that stays turned on his my fridge and stove. Once we're done using the internet we plug out the router and modem. Every little bit counts. Also LED light bulbs use less electricity while giving a brighter glow 60 watt (doesn't use anywhere near 60 watts) flows about as bright as a 100 watt incandescent

As solar, LED bulbs, energy efficient appliances and water saving devices play a bigger role in our lives the less electricity and water we consume. Therefore, the electric and water companies will continue to raise rates and add additional FEES to our bills to make up for their lost revenue. We experienced this when we went to solar and all of a sudden noticed an increase in fees, line usage fee, service availability fee, maintenance fee and minimum usage fees all still $$ less than our previous electric bill. So we all try to do our part in conservation and recycling and these utility companies still find ways to rip their customers off.

Goes under furniture and beds which rarely would get vacuumed with a regular vacuum. Roombas are really well designed. All parts are replaceable.

no my solar man told me not to use the fan in the summer because you are bringing the heat down off the ceiling and mixing it with the cool air along the floor. He said use box fans on the floor to cause a breeze of cool air and not mix with the hot air on the ceilings. We are really into solar and saving electricity we tell all of our friends not to use your ceiling fans in the summer. It works much better.

Will this keep the heat out in the summer though? I know you said that but it's hot to the touch?? thanks

    • @reiniertl
      @reiniertl 6 років тому +1

You still loose some heat, but a lot less because both radiation and convection are largely reduced by using this simple device.
Think that in terms of convection the air can only move inside the bubble, and not through the whole room. Since the bubble is very small, once the temperature inside it gets stable convection almost stops. Now radiation will also be reduced, because the air in the bubble is almost the same as in your room and because plastic is a poor heat conductor. There is no where to radiate as much energy as before because the temperature gradient between the side of the bubble facing the room and the glass side is very small.
It is a win win method and works very well. Want to take a look through that window remove the bubble wrap, take a peek and put it back, it takes a few seconds.
There is no mystery, it is all explicable by thermodynamics. In fact the best thing would be to have double glass windows vacuum sealed, no convection at all and the best performance, but this is very hard to do and maintain, so just use the trick and improve your energy efficiency.
It also helps if you reduce gaps between your house and the exterior to the minimum, just make sure is not air tight as some exchange is also necessary.
