The Dollar General app has a price scanner. You have to make sure it's set to the right location and then it really helps to be able to look at prices!

You definitely have to luck out and have good timing to get the penny items. I went to 10 different stores on Tuesday and one store I only found 1 item and 1 store I found 200. Sometimes you get lucky.
Yes, put the dollar general app on your phone. When you get to a store make sure your app is set to the right location and then use the barcode scanner to check prices. If it rings up $0.00 then it's a penny item.

This year i sent 12 full large gift bags for the teens in the devastated areas in NC. I sorry i just don't understand how it works, is it just yellow dot seasonal items that are a penny. I've been to 2 dollar generals and will not go back they were so dirty and unorganized I felt dirty when I left had to go home and shower really gross only saw expired and broken items
I reported one Dollar General to the head office and they were nice and said they would check into it and about a week and half later the store was cleaned up you can try that if you want to return to that store
