  • POC is a brand that I've admired for years... but from afar. The Swedish company has a huge range of cycling apparel and it is on display everywhere. Bold colours, light and bright helmets, cool sunnies, and designs that stand out from the crowd.
This week, a box of goodies turned up; finally I have a chance to review some of the POC cycling range... and, believe me, you're going to see a lot more of this stuff in the coming weeks.
After filming a very long unboxing / unbagging (still to come), it was time to ride.
This is the story of my first POC experience: a quick ride to adjust to a new helmet and sunglasses.

Looking good Rob, I also would prefer a tighter fitting jersey.

Very entertaining and informative channel. Thanks. I have narrowed to the POC hydrogen white and Giro Aether in Charcoal Mica!

      Thanks for the note.
Love the POC. It has been my go-to helmet - and I've got plenty of choice - for over a year now.
Keep me posted on how you go. (And have a look around the site - there's more about other helmets I've tried.)

I appreciate the all white but wish POC kept the dark straps for this spec.

Love the hydrogen white POC helmet, in terms of the jersey you have an athletes build & could go a smaller size down "race cut"

How does the poc aim sunglasses compare to the sutros. Have you got a favourite? And the lens on the pocs good for all weather conditions ?

The AIM sunnies are amazing. Really good lens, suitable for cloudy conditions or sunshine; at least that's my quick appraisal after the one ride.
Here's the thing though, and it may not relate to you... usually when I ride, I'm filming as well - documenting the adventures I have on a bike or doing reviews (or just getting a few thoughts off my chest). And so, as you can see, the reflective lens can be a little off-putting... well, for me at least (ie. I keep seeing the camera and reflections of things that I'm riding by).
Of course, I'll use the AIM again... but I'm so used to the Sutro, that I've gone for Oakley since this first ride with the POC helmet.
(Hope that offers some kind of answer. It's a personal thing at this point but, to be clear: the POC sunnies are very impressive.)

We know all about the bloody rain here in Liverpool, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and I love the POC helmets, comfortable and unlike all the other boring helmets out there..... I would love to buy a POC kit, but they don't make them big enough for people like me 🤬

      Benjamin,
It's a reasonable question because, as new, the white is fantastic... but it's obvious that keeping it that way could prove to be a challenge.
In my experience, after riding with this helmet almost exclusively for around a year, is that regular washing can keep it looking relatively new.
      A few tips:
      1. POC explained to me that, when you wash (ie. put in a bucket of water after a ride), that they recommend removing the padding - which is very easy to do, and no fuss at all to re-fit.
      2. Cold water only for cleaning (that's my suggestion).
      3. About once a month, I also soaked the helmet in cold water and a little bit of washing powder - not sure what brand I used, but I'd say it's all rather similar... and, after about 30 minutes, give the straps a bit of a rub and any yellowing (ie. stain from sweat and suncreams etc) seems to come off relatively easily.
I'd say that, if you didn't wash regularly, the white is going to go dull pretty quickly. So, a little bit of care - and the logical steps to get the stink of sweat out of the helmet after riding - and you'll be able to keep the helmet looking pretty clean and new.

I am so very disappointed with recent POC purchase. They helmet quality is great, but the lack of support for strap adjustment around the ears is an issue for me :( I might be wrong, but most POCs models does not allow strap adjustment around the ears.

Likewise, I have this helmet. I find the strap if appropriately tightened ends up being too far back on the throat rather than under the chin. Forced me to wear it a lot looser than my giro and kask helmets

True that. Only chin strap is adjustable. I have 2 POCs and they are both unadjustable. I do like how simple it is but it makes fitting a lil more troublesome to begin with esp buying online.

The way that jersey bunches up everywhere would annoy me. And the sleeves are too short. I've started riding with a Pedla jersey and the sleeve length is just perfect. Plus it's an Australian company, based in Collingwood
