  • In this video I review the POC Ventral Air Spin Helmet. Is this the best helmet that POC has made? Is it airy? Does it look like a mushroom? Is it the best summer helmet? Check out this video for my detailed review on the helmet.

    Thanks for the thorough review. I was looking to replace my three year old Giro Synthe. The POC Ventral Air was on deep discount and this review sealed the deal. A bunch of us are doing the Triple Bypass in Colorado in August, so good ventilation will be a big plus in keeping the melon cool.

    Hi Black Water Cyclist, what glasses are you wearing in the Videos of you trying out the helmet. I just recently got the Ventral air spin in orange and i really dig the look with your glasses :)

      The shades in using in that video is the Tifosi Sledge. Great glasses and not crazy expensive like some brands.

    Great visibility on that helmet for sure.
    I noticed in the video you’re having a look at each car that drives by. Do you have a Varia or is it based on sound? Is something you do for every car that passes?

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  3 роки тому +17

      Thanks Tony! I actually have a Varia. I was hit by a car at 62mph in 2018 and because I looked back and was able to lean, I did not take a direct hit. What helped me to overcome my PTSD was to look at every car that is passing me. Here is my video on overcoming the PTSD: ua-cam.com/video/a6ZuEVVXBWQ/v-deo.html

    You actually don’t need to unplug the legs to adjust the rear holder. You can just slide both legs back and forth. It’s designed to be slide instead. Try it.

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  3 роки тому +2

      You are exactly right!!! When I tried in the past it didn't move much and I was worried that it would actually break. The way it looks doesn't look like it should slide but it does. You just have to hold it close to the location where it connects. I may have to remove that part from the video. Thanks for the heads up!

    Great review. I wanted to love this helmet to replace my Octal Mips but the new SPIN pads just don't work. If I tighten the helmet just where it doesn't fall off, the 2 SPIN pads that sit on my forehead leave painful red marks. I may check out the Lite version you mentioned.

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  3 роки тому +1

      That is a bummer! I have not had that issue but everyone's head is shaped different. I wonder if you could replace the spin pads with some other pads and if it would help.

    • @jamilabbasy
      @jamilabbasy 3 роки тому

      @@BlackWaterCyclist I thought about that, but it defeats the purpose of the SPIN feature since this helmet doesn't have MIPS. I plan to just replace my old MIPS Octal with a new one.

    Hi. Thanks for the review. I'm looking into buying this one or the Abus Airbreaker and I haven't been able to try them on a ride. Most important aspect for me is the ventilation and the best possible air flow. I can see that the Abus has the air intakes running across the front/brow area, while the Poc has a conventional front part and then the massive air intakes. So which one would your recommend? Thank you.

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  Рік тому +1

      Hi Fernando, great question! I would say purely on ventilation, the POC would be better. Honestly, there was not a huge difference between the two. I prefer the Airbreaker because of looks and fit but they are both amazing helmets.

    • @user-xy3sw6mx7y
      @user-xy3sw6mx7y Рік тому

      @@BlackWaterCyclist Thanks for your answer and input. Have now ordered the Airbreaker which as you wrote is still a very well ventilated helmet and it also fit and looked better on my head.

    Hi. I’m having the same problem with the fit of my Poc Omne Air SPIN (Medium) on top of my head and my size is 56cm. I’m planning on getting a Ventral Air SPIN. Do you think I should go for a larger size?

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  2 роки тому

      No I would stay with the medium. The large is pretty big. I have not tried the Omne so not sure if it is better or worse than the Ventral Air but if I get the chance to try one on, I will let you know.

  • @SheepDoggyDog

    Hiya, so as the mercury is dropping now and thinking of the video title, I'm wondering -- what do you wear for winter riding? Do you switch helmets based on season?

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  2 роки тому +1

      I will probably go to the regular Ventral instead of the Air. The regular still has great air flow though. In the past I've just worn a sports beanie under my helmet to cover my ears and head but I have been eye balling VeloToz water proof helmet covers. If only they had a Hi Viz orange, I would already have one. I need to get their shoe covers for rainy and cold days anyway since they are the best.

      @@BlackWaterCyclist Cheers, always appreciate your replies. I was looking out for deals on Giant Rev for a while and never found a deal, was finally ready to give in and pay the $110 for the MIPS version locally when I saw the Ventral Air SPIN was 54% off online because I guess people don't want the Green one, so think I'll splurge the $140 for that.

    Hello... Would you know how the fit is compared to a Lazer Z1 helmet? I have 58cm head so a medium should be fine right? Or would a large fit better?

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  2 роки тому +1

      Yes the Medium should fit you perfectly. I had the Lazer Z1 before and I would say fit is similar. If you run Medium Z1, then you will run Medium with the Ventral.

    I ordered a Ventral Air a week ago and the ear straps are still to short. I called POC and was told 2023 was when the new strap length would be corrected.

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  2 роки тому +1

      Wow, that's disappointing. I thought it was addressed in the past 2 years and I thought it was mainly an issue with the original Ventral, not the Air. My ear strap cradles can be adjusted. Are you not able to lower yours?

    • @richardhill2836
      @richardhill2836 2 роки тому +1

      @@BlackWaterCyclist , unfortunately they can not be adjusted. You can adjust the cradle up and down but the ear straps are set in length. You could adjust the plastic pieces forward or backwards a little but not much changed. Love the look of the helmet but very disappointed it has taken years and it’s still not fixed.

  • @SheepDoggyDog
    @SheepDoggyDog 3 роки тому

    That looks real nice... But for those of us who don't think what's between our ears is quite worth that much, any similar, good sub-$100 option?
    About $35 is the most I've spent for a helmet, but that got run over by a truck a couple months ago, so I'm using one even cheaper now. And the sweat does pour.

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  3 роки тому +1

      I understand the price is the major downside on the POC.
      A helmet you can find a great deal on and have decent ventilation is the previous generation of the Giant Rev helmet. If you look on eBay, you can find them for $65 or less usually. They are light, comfy, and good ventilation. This is a small but gives you an idea of what I'm talking about. www.ebay.com/itm/Giant-Rev-Road-Cycling-Helmet-Small-Black-Reg-130-/124280750973?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

    Poc Ventral air spin vs Lazer G1?

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  Рік тому +1

      That is a great question. I would lean towards the POC for better airflow for higher temps or for slower ride speeds and then I would lean towards the G1 for a bit better aerodynamics and less of a mushroom look. They are both great helmets and honestly wouldn't go wrong with either. Just depends on what you plan to do. If it is mainly gravel and mountain bike, do the POC. If you are only riding the road, do the G1.

    • @otobainoronin7877

      @@BlackWaterCyclist Both helmets were on sale for Labor Day. I was about to purchase the G1 and then finally found the color way I wanted in the POC and pulled the trigger on that.
