As someone who enjoys both games, this has the potential to be the best video game adaptation yet.
Have you seen that the Dina face model has a playthrough of Part 2? It's great and kinda eerie.
Agree along with Sonic the Headache
Agreed the story is bulletproof. It's amazing in every way!! The second game was so uncomfortable to play but couldn't get enough. The first one was one of the greatest video game experiences..
pedro is really owning this decade finding that niche of being a dilf.
I think it was pretty bold of them not to show Grogu in this teaser.
I literally cried watching this teaser
The tone is so good man. I have a good feeling about this one. I teared up myself.
same. i recognized scenes from the game and I cant wait to get emotionally crushed again.
DUDE I've been eagerly awaiting this trailer ever since Ellie bitched out on killing Abby.... i need more Ellie & Joel and this is the perfect solution
@@moreuselesstakes don't spoil shit.
@@kazyle3897 I have a good feeling too, just based on seeing a name connected to Chernobyl.
Loved it.
And I loved TLOU even more.
This is a sad show Adam. The title has so many different meanings and all of them are related to the loss of what makes us human. Optimism and moments of hope are cherished and uncommon in a story like this. Can't wait!
I’d love to see you guys play the game. It is a story telling masterpiece in my opinion
And stream it for the hilarious reactions.
At least the first 30 or so minutes cause damn few things grabbed me as fast as that did.
@@muddabuwshi6510 oh definitely not part 2. The amount of sensitive material in that game is crazy
Chefs kiss on the pick to play Joel. Papa Mando to the rescue 🖤
6:42 Man if it’s a near 1 to 1 remake of the game then the first episode will get ya bad. I sometimes just go and search for peoples playthroughs of it and just watch their reaction to the opening. It still gets me a bit emotional to this day.
Thats all i hope for... the first episode being shot for shot of the opening... and from a few shots we might be getting that.
I am in the Camp who loved the Last of Us 2. I think enough time has gone by that people are starting to understand and even embrace the mirror-reflection story. Joel is a mentor character - this is really Ellie's hero's journey.
Agreed- I'm a TLOU apologist and loved both games. I hope the TV series brings more fans and does the source material justice
I adore the second one
same. I loved both games.
*SPOILERS*
I’m not a fan LoU2. I played it twice and I just cannot agree with how the story played out. Retroactively making a throwaway Dr. character so integral to the story it gets the main character killed is lazy writing. Gives MAJOR Alien 3 vibes.
@@Jdub54 okay
Watching your reactions to the show would be amazing due to what happens in the story, it’s one of the most connected I’ve ever been to a story game and I would love to see you guys watch it
It is a sad story. there is no way around that. It is what makes it great. You find the happy moments with the relationship between Joel and Ellie.
I really hope they nail the opening scene.
I'm gonna cry like a baby if they do.
Considering its HBO they have a leg up on nailing it more than other streaming platforms
I hope to god they do, it will be an amazingly sad intro tenfold towards those who don't play video games, who don't even know of TLOU and go in the blindest as possible
The attraction to stories like The Last of Us or The Road, is that they are grounded in real human emotion and action. In a setting where society is fallen, the truly good and noble will generally be taken down by those doing whatever they can to survive. Trust is a liability, friendship and love are things to be used against you. So, no, they are usually not feel good stories, and they often end on a melancholy note. I personally enjoy watching or playing that story far more due to the realism of the fragility of civility and kindness. A feel good story with a happy ending is tolerable, but a tragic story that somehow forces rainbows and sunshine onto the end will always feel disjointed and unfulfilling.
Every good story is grounded in real human emotion, otherwise it's just a bad story. And that can be done in any setting and genre. The are just settings where it's easy to do that, and settings where it's hard. Choosing a setting where you can get instant-emotion from the can without any effort is not a sign of good writing.
I feel like the fact that neither of you have played Last of Us might be a war crime.
The whole crew making this show are people who have loved this game, so I we know there puting all there love and passion in this show and are in the right hands :)
Hard not to get emotional watching this trailer. Legit never thought we’d get this show. I’m so excited.
I happened to LOVE what they did with The Last of Us 2's story. I wont go into details or anything to spoil it, but never has a story pulled at all of your emotions like that game did....well except the Last of Us 1 lol.
Damn, I finally took the time to find you guys. I have only ever seen you on reaction compilations and yours were some of the best I saw. Now I am a subscriber.
Last of Us is a sad game, it's amazing, but very sad - so the show 100% should be a sad show. But there should be heavy levels of bitter dad learning to love again and choosing love over what's right on a larger scale
Yep exactly and then the character should be ruined completely and all the development should be thrown away for shock factor.
@@F0CKSTR0T I haven't played the second one, I heard what happens to Joel and I lost interest
@@GodBear97 story is definitely a let down, but from a gameplay and visual perspective it’s awesome
There are breathes tension release and humor in that game. This show can easily make a well rounded dark show that still has moments of hope. The giraffe scene is still one of my favorite scenes.
@@Killerpeanut Sure, but the overall tone/show should be sad
Two GOT actors, that’s cool.
Din is really taking the whole "You are a Mandalorian no more" thing hard.
The Last of Us is, in my opinion, the best game ever. Ps - I worked on this series; it's gonna be bonkers.
Re: your concern about the show being too relentlessly grim/sad (a la Walking Dead, which I also quit for that reason), I'm cautiously optimistic that this adaptation will capture the same balance as the first game, which incorporated semi-regular elements of humor, heart, action/adventure, and hope. It's not just loss and fear over and over no matter what they do. Plus, the broader worldbuilding in the game did a good job of showing that some people actually DO manage to have reasonably happy, stable, fulfilled lives (under the circumstances at least). So there's an actual sense that the main characters COULD potentially get a happy ending if they play their cards right; such an outcome is plausible (unlike WD, which feels like everyone's just marking time until the next tragedy strikes).
I hope it drops the first day of January. Don't you dare try too push this into the future. I need this NOW! 😆
This intro always makes me smile even on my worst days
This is going to be the best adaptation ever. It has to be sad to be The Last of Us. Nothing should change.
Nice use of Mystery Science Theater 3000 names- Crow & Tom Servo! Keep up the great work guys.
What sets this show apart from The Walking Dead is that The Last of Us has an actual ending. And it is either sad or happy, depending on which ending the show goes with. I think they most likely go with the happy ending since it will pave way for season 2, if they want to make a season 2 (based on TLOU2).
Ahhhh here’s the reaction I’ve been waiting for 😂😊
Pedro Pascal & roles about fatherhood, name a more iconic duo
Would love to see you play through the games on the gaming channel! It packs just the right emotional punch. Then I’d love to see you react to the show as well! I remember your trailer reaction to the 2nd game. Chef’s kiss! ❤
100%
Looks amazing. Recognised a lot of parts but I do hope it’s different so there’s some surprises and it can also be it’s own thing. I love that the world and clickers are captured perfectly coz they both have such a presence that has to be done right. I love that it’s a series so it’s not crammed into a 2hr story that sacrificed stuff for the runtime but I hope it’s not over milked like walking dead.
1. This is not a "zombie "game
2. The people is the enemy in the game
3. And that's what makes it unique to others
Hi, boys! I know I dropped off the face of the earth but I'm working my way through all of your new stuff! I'm not dead, just battening down the hatches for Hocus Pocus 2 release week.
We've missed you!
@@ilikemysugarwithcoffeeandcream I miss the peaches too!! I'll make it back eventually! Got my own content armageddon on the horizon with Hocus Pocus 2 dropping in 2 days!
I don't care for most zombie or horror because of the relentless nightmare aspects and sorrow. Real life is tough enough, I want to escape and be comforted! That being said, this has an amazing cast and team, I hope it does well!
Same. I've heard everyone rave about The Last of Us, and considering it was done by Naughty Dog (who produced my favourite game, Uncharted) it looks like game play and story wise it would be great. But I can't do zombies. At all. Tried playing Resident Evil once and I turned it off after 5 minutes. The production value of this show looks great and I love Pedro, but nope, no way I can watch this
I think its easy to write The last of us as just sad, but i think that is very much just the surface level, the story takes the main character and breaks him down to a shell of a man, but the story of the game is kinda building him back up again.
And saying that "people" didnt like the 2nd game almost makes it sound like it was the majority that didn't like it, which was not the case, its a just loud part of the "fan base". In reality it was an award winning game and even if you don't like the way the story goes it's still very well executed, one of the best looking ps4 games with better gameplay than the first one.
As someone who's never played the games, it looks pretty cool.
Jay, My wife watches Call the Midwives, I have nicknamed it "Call the Tears"
I'm still thinking about your last reaction "Flex Nuts!"😂
I thought we'd have to wait to game the system with a trailerpalooza for this haha. I've never played TLOU (Mainly because the last PS system I owned was a PS2) but this trailer looks really good and I'm excited to check out the show!
This show was filmed in my city edmonton alberta canada, along with other places in alberta 😊
Since we're on the subject of videogame adaptations, are you guys reacting to Cyberpunk Edgerunners? I think you'll like it, and Jay's reactions would be awesome
Can't wait for this show!
would love to see you guys play TLOU for sure!!
You are shrinking in to your background. 😎
Would love to see a list of your favorite trailer reactions and how the movie stack up
Cascina Caradonna the face model for Dina has a playthrough of part 2 on her youtube.
I am HERE FOR THIS!
The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2 is extremely emotional game so the series will be very emotional as well. I personally love Part 1 and Part 2 game, it was absolutely fantastic.
I agree. I cannot watch a show that has no hope. There needs to be hope.
Well the video games are sad its suppose to be most of the scenes we have seen are from the game. This show being emotional is what makes The Last of us franchise good.
Without spoiling it, I’ll just say a great motivator and plot point is maintaining hope. “When you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light.”
@@toadinboots Believe in the fireflies!
This is inherently a very sad story, but as someone else said in the comments: You find the happiness and hope in Joel and Ellie, their relationship and their interactions, the characters ARE what this story is all about.
It feels like everyone involved, cast and crew, were made to play at least the first game before filming started 😂
3:47 [Ellie to Joel TLoU] "... Her name was Riley, and she was the first to die.."
This show is going to be incredible, i'm so hyped for this, Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Nick Offerman as Bill, Gabriel Luna as Uncle Tommy, The Last of Us is part one is a Masterpiece in Gaming, Part 2 had a lot of hate and mixed reviews but i liked it, and gave part 2 an 8.5 out 10 not a masterpiece but still a great game, the story, the characters, the music, the sound effects the visuals man, people who have never played the game are going to go on such an emotional thrilling roller coaster with this show, the fact that the voice actors are also in the series as new characters, and every cast and crew member has played the games and consider one of their all time favorite game, and are massive fans, you know they put so much, love, care and passion to theis project to make sure is perfect and stay true to the game, and the creator of the game has been heavily evolved as well this is going to be one hell of treat, and im ready lol! can't wait 2023 is going to be GLORIOUS! :)
I'm so happy to see this happening. It's my favorite game. And I'm sure I'm in the minority of people who enjoyed the 2nd game almost as much as the 1st.
"I hope its not gonna be a sad show" as someone who has played the game a few times and loves it so much I can promise you its gonna be a sad show
This looks so good this might be the show that I genuinely buy a hbo subscription for anything else I want to watch I just watch through reaction channels as I’m not that fussed about seeing it all myself
Wow, it ain't busy being you guys. Too many shows! Looking forward to this.
What there going for is follow the story of the games but add onto it, which Im super happy about. yes there was alot of hate that came with the second game but that stuff died down alot and there are plenty of people who LOVE the second game.
its a beautiful story that im happy neil druckman (the creator of tlou) is working closely on it
It took me almost the whole trailer going "Where do I recognise the girl from 🤔" to realise it's the girl who played Lyanna Mormont in GoT, well we've all seen she's a good actress and Pedro is just superb so this show should be really good!
If i remember correctly , i could be wrong and it might have changed didn't they say that some of the people involved in creating the Assassin's Creed game are involved in the series.
The only games i can't see them doing justice unless the move away from the main characters are Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
Also, every critical role cast member voices characters in these games. 😂
Jay plays Horizon Forbidden West?!? *Heck* yes!!!
I'm so excited for this show! There's literally the same scenes in the trailer that are in the game which means someone has actually seen the show.
You guys should play through the games! I would 100%, watch that
You have to play the game. Maybe the new remake as the tension more than makes up for the gameplay and it kind of gives an little extra to the story. Apart from the ladder puzzles they can do one.
I’m just saying there’s like a handful of games that are so good you could have one person play with someone else watching them play and the Last of Us is one of them you guys should definitely play it! Oh also God of War is another
I can not possibly recommend enough that you guys play through at least the first Last of Us game... quite literally a masterpiece. No better way to describe it.
i am one of those people who loved Last of us 2 from it release
Play the game. The first game is my Lord of the Rings, my Game of Thrones. It looks/feels promising and captures the spirit, just from the teaser. Loved!!!! this teaser.
I mean, Jay did say the gamplay isn't for him. Wasn't for me either. This HBO series seems like the right fit to experience this story for folks like us.
@@loganbigmo Fair game.
it's literally criminal how neither of you didn't play the games. you HAVE to ASAP.
The last of us, is so much better at demonstrating what it's world does to people, especially since it's not as black and white as "this person is the villain, instead of the zombies"
I am beyond excited for Season 1 that will cover the events of the first game. Pedro looks like one of the most spot on castings out there, Bella might not be a perfect Ellie but that doesn't mean she's a miscast. HBO clearly put a lot of heart into recreating the world, you can see that their budget was spent well.
As for what's afterwards - I'm... curious, I guess? I'm from the camp that considers Part II as a weaker point of the saga because of it's story but with the guy that wrote Chernobyl as the main writer, I do have some hopes he'll shape it better than the original writer did. But that's still not certain and also a matter of years, so... there's that. For now I'm definitely looking forward to 2023 because of this.
What you guys will miss is this trailer is like the actual games itself. The same grittiness, and the casting is spot on. Just about everything I saw in trailer is lifted directly from game. This may end up being the best game to TV adaptation ever done. This first series appears to be all four seasons in the game.
You need to play the game then watch the teaser again goosebumps for real can't wait
They better make a season 2 covering the events of last of us 2.
I just played part 1 remake (twice). I thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't played part 2 since it's release 2 years ago. I did say once I played the remake I'll replay part 2 just to see if my perspective of the game changed. I did not enjoy my first playthrough lol. I'll try again. This show looks good. But!!! Show me the Bloater! I need to see how it will look in the show
I didn’t even know this was gonna be a show. I’ve never really seen anything on it. I know of it, but I don’t know much about it.
My husband is currently replaying Last of Us
The Clicker sound! Anyone who has played the game got chills/creeps with that. Eeeeeek.
Bloater??? 😱😱😱😱😱
Y'all have to play the games for real. They are incredible.
Could you please enable automatic captions? Thank you.
i adore both of these games and i already know this is gonna rock. also MELANIE LYNSKEY???? as a new original character????? sign me uppppp
My issue with TWD was that, by the third commercial break of the second episode, I'd tired of all the living people's continued existence.
My warning to my internet best friends is that to do this series right, it’s going to be sad and emotionally destroy you in the end. Watch with caution
Internets favorite dad…. 😂 internet’s favorite zaddy! !!!
You guys should definitely play The Last of Us games they are really good the second one got some flack about certain things but other then that the story for both are amazing
apparently the show will follow the main story while including new story beats and things they never got to include in the games. it will be fun
Its vibe and look is like first couple seasons of The Walking Dead , with a much bigger budget
Sad show or not imma be watching this Last of Us is known for having huge balls and going there so I’m not expecting a lot of happiness but a lot of epicness
I really wish that they would make "Detroit Become Human" a movie. I think that would be incredible.
Lets goo🔥🤙🏻
To Jay and Adam reaction to Deadpool 3 trailer
TLOU are my two favorite games of all time! Incredible storytelling imo. I know some people didn't like the second game but I loved it even more than the first. These games are the most emotionally impactful experience I've ever had gaming.
They absolutely fucking NAILED the vibe of the game, and there are quite a few shots in here that I know EXACTLY what part of the game it is. There are bound to be changes but it looks like we're getting a lot of the game just straight up put on screen.
For me personally the most important thing that this show needs to get accurate with how Joel and Ellie act and how their relationship grows throughout the show. I trust the two actors to put on an amazing performance already, but the writing needs to have the game accurate horrifying events, and hits you with the emotions in the same way the games do, or else this show will turn out to be just another video game turned into a B tier show.
if the show follows the game well, then there should be comedic beats!! Ellie was always witty and fun with her joke book and sarcastic comments! fingers crossed for that!
The clicker at the end looks so good, exactly like the game. The make-up people already deserve an award for that shot alone. I just hope the story line thematically follows the first game rather than the second, but seeing as how this looks like it takes place during/around the first game, that will be the likely outcome anyways.
Both TLOU games are some of the best story telling in video game media to date. Ironically the second part ends exactly the same way the first part ended, with the hero making a heart wrenching choice. Both choices made, represent the same values but some people still couldn't handle it.
That is how GREAT the story of TLOU is. People attacked the game because they just couldn't handle the emotions playing it awoke in some. If the show doesn't follow with the strong points in the story, it won't be worth the time. Hope they do.
I love how there's no real tie to the actual gaming experience needed (like they did in Halo) but just a story to tell....the cutthroat survival instincts of Joel and the growth, and the cold heart Ellie develops. In the end they would do anything for each other and that's the glimmer of hope it won't be just a depressing journey. But honestly Walking Dead was never a happy story and people loved that....
I'll give the show a few episodes to win me over. Anyone know if Jay and Adam reacted to the New Hellraiser trailer?
I just hope that gustavo santaolalla has some role in the soundtrack of this series
