While I don’t know if I would go for the Bond Arms pistol, this one of the best discussions on concealed carry I have seen. The gentleman has obviously thought carefully about what it means to carry. Carrying is a serious business not to be entered into lightly.
I want one of these because it’s perfect for pockets and can be extremely stealth. I don’t want anyone to know I have a gun until I am shooting to protect my life.
To add to that, when you're in public i.e. carry, you are not usually having a gun fight (semi-auto). In fact, one heavy load hollow point LC, 357, 000 410 shotshell in a BondArms and aimed at a limb will usually get the job done. Sometimes we must harm the threat to stop the threat though. Please keep that in mind. Know your laws folks, and great video.
Thanks for the video Pat. My uncle owned one chambered in 38 spcl. He used that same draw and used to knock apples he'd set on a fence post for practice. he passed away a few years ago but it was a fond memory of mine, funny thing was he had lost his pinky and ring finger on an oil well back in the seventies and still could hit ALL day long with that little gun. The gun went to a cousin and I had forgotten about the things.. I and my wife both carry, your video has renewed my interest in the only thing little that comes outta Texas. I like the 410 /45LC too ... I see one in my near future. Have a nice day.
Great to see an ordinary guy talking about this subject, instead of the usual wannabe hotshots. I have a Bond Army Snake Slayer IV. It shoots a little high from the top barrel, so I put 00 buck in the top and either a .410 slug or a .45 Colt in the bottom. It always occurs to me that the buckshot will certainly get the bad guy's attention and allow time for the well-aimed follow-up shot with the solid round which is will penetrate more. By the way, my Bond Army manual says not to dry fire the pistol to avoid damage to the firing pin, so I don't. I sure like the versatility of the .45 LC and the .410.
8 year Army infantry veteran with an armed security, private investigation and corrections background here. I 100% agree... the weapon that will save your life is simple to operate, safe to operate, small enough to carry everywhere and with enough power to eliminate the threat in a single shot. I have the bond 3 inch rough and rowdy model loaded with pdx home defense rounds. If you need a 15 round capacity you either need better training or most likely to make much smarter life choices. I feel the bond arms is the perfect concealed carry companion to my Taurus judge public defender that is my "car gun" and my diablo 12g black powder shotgun pistol that is concealed next to where I sleep. Great video!
Thanks Pat. Great advice and a very good choice of self defense. A lot of people, including myself, don't want a heavy bulky carry gun. This is a great solution.
I personally carried a derringer for ccw for years because of convenience reliability and comfort i use to carry revolver and sometimes ill switch it out. Only derringer people can understand one another why we choose it for defense and prefer it over pistol.
I agree with you. A defensive weapon is easy to hide and a bad guy will never know what hit him. So why would you want to carry a large offensive weapon and not have that advantage?
Agreed. I have been carrying a Bond Arms in .45 ACP for about 4 years and do not feel at any disadvantage. It's easy to carry in a front pocket with no holster and I like the fact that I can just drop two shells in and go. No need to load a magazine and then worry if I am wearing the magazine spring out. The 230 grain hollow points I have it loaded with will stop anything with one shot to the center mass.
I guess that could happen with any pistol in a defensive situation. That is why you practice this with an unloaded weapon Holly. You train yourself to keeo you finger out of the trigger gusrf to the last moment before you have to shoot.
I had a custom Bond Arms built .45 acp top and bottom. It kicked like a mule with 230 grain fmj ammo. Sold it for a Glock 36 which was easier to conceal and fit my needs better. Bond Arms are HEAVY guns.
As far as 2 shots not being enough, you have 10 projectiles with the 410 defensive rounds in 2 trigger pulls. If your shooting beyond 15 to 20 feet, your going to need a great attorney to prove self defense. People need to remember the purpose is not going to war, it's to survive and get home. I choose my Cowboy Defender in 410 over my Smith or Ruger because of the fact it a SHOTGUN!!
Cobra is the worst derringer in the United States. I would rethink that one if you know what is good for you. They are unreliable and the bullet will keyhole at anything past 2 feet.
When I pocket carried my Davis I had it half cock with safety applied. The drill was to reach in and release the safety then draw and bring the hammer back to full cock as it is brought on target.
Nice video. I usually carry the Bond Arms USA Defender in it's supplied BAD Driving holster (cross draw for me). For me, very efficient since I just happen to have two titanium replacement shoulders, which limits just how far and where I can reach.
This style of draw works well. Not a new technique by any means but does save time. Back when I first started carryin when I turned 21 I had a snub nose 38, shot it weekly and practiced my draw religiously. Makes a hell of a difference and makes you pretty damn good too. Practice makes perfect and smooth is fast.
I have the Snake Slayer they are good guns. I use the 3inch shells with 4 projectiles and around 20 bbs in one shot. I took the trigger guard off mine just personal perference. I also have the 357/38 barrel for mine so I can practice with 38s because the colt longs are so expensive. Some people dont like the trigger pull but it just takes some practice its not a straight back pull you have to arch it a bit. Merry Christmas Pat to you and yours
Love my bond arms derringer (texas defender 45LC/410) my recommendation, use the allen key that comes with the gun and deactivate the safety. i have heard of it being accidentally activated
That’s probably a good idea if you’re using it as your CCW or as your nightstand pistol. One, cause it’s almost impossible to accidentally cock the hammer and pull the trigger(both are fairly hard to do) and two, with that rebounding hammer it can’t fire if you drop it on the hammer so there’s no reason for the safety unless you have children and you want to lock it on safe.
Brother I would like to suggest thumbing the hammer as you bring it up instead of in the holster. Make sure you clear your body before cocking in and make sure you practice drawing and shooting it.
@ Holly Nites: In states with castle laws, you have a right to defend your home. If you have family, then I say you have an obligation. In my state, if someone enters your house unlawfully then the law assumes that you are in immediate peril of your life. The distance across most average to small sized homes is about 25 feet. So there's your answer. (Of course in other states you may be obligated to run away and leave your family at the mercy of any home intruders, and shooting someone in defense of your family would indeed be considered murder. Although if I were to live such a state, I would have to ask which is more important? My family or going to court?)
Even in places where the law says you're not in immediate peril of your life when somebody comes in uninvited, you are in reality. In those situations it's better to be tried by twelve than carried by six.
I have 3 BA Derringers, TheSnake Slayer, the Pikes Peak Special and the Old Glory. Several holsters and several barrels... my favorite barrel is the 44 Special. Can't find the holster you're talking about. Tried the number you gave and also went into Galco's website and tried looking it up by the CZ model you listed and nothing. It looks like a great rig, please provide more info if possible.
The Derringer is a great, but often overlooked personal sidearm. A .38 Special, 9mm, .45 LC/.410 is more than adequate power, even from a short barrel Derringer. Your main goal in self defense is to stop the threat and escape the danger. It's not about killing the attacker, and the 'one shot stop' is a myth. If I carried, it would be my #1 choice. Very easy to conceal and simple to operate.
How about having it already cocked in your holster since youre not going to put your finger in the trigger guard till youre pointing it ? Your method is good, im not denying that...but why not eliminate cocking it as youre pulling it out ?
A very well done and informative video. You hit all of the key points and more than adequately covered safety. You are dead on with the weapon and ammo choice. Thanks for sharing your video as I enjoyed watching it.
Nice video Pat!! ...very informative...I would love to have a B.A.D. and intend on getting one after I complete the purchase of my newest addition....45 Colt/.410 will be my choice...
It is the Texas Defender.I also have purchased a smith and wesson governor that shoots the 45 colt and the 410 same as my bond but has 6 shots. You have to think about multiple assulants now due to all the violence around. The governor will also fire 45 acp with full moon clips.I will go for the bond first because it is fast and smooth on the draw.Thanks.ps I have another video of fast reloading the governor on you tube.
There is a safety on this weapon, however it is difficult to work it.I would never have it cocked without the safety on.I used to shoot cowboy style shooting.I guess the way in the video makes more sense to me.Also this holster I am using here actually helps cocking this pistol much easier than waiting till the gun is out and pointed.
If im carrying a Derringer i would go with the largest caliber (45 colt or 44 special) with hard cast full wad cutters. I mean you only get two shots, might as well make big holes with deep penetration. ......nice holster by the way.
A lot of people say 2 or 1 shot isnt enough. However, bond arms is making a 45-70 one shot derringer, which to be fair I feel like might be plenty in a close range scenario 🤣
Bond Arms in 9mm is PC. FMJ up top, penetrator HP below. The difference within 10 feet between barrels at center mass is negligible. More guys with Glocks went to bed than anything.
To reply to your question, the answer is cocked and locked.I carried a 45 commander, and officers model for many years, and that is the way I carried them.
Those considering this weapon need to take into account that the short barrel means that there will be a considerable spread from a 410 shell. Loaded with 410, it is an up close defensive weapon. More than about 5 yards away and the effectiveness is much reduced.
Also, id like to state that id prefer a 5 shot Smith and Wesson Lightweight .38 special Revolver in my Fanny Packs secret pocket in the back held together with Velcro which I can get to in 2 seconds or less. Why ? 1. A Revolver is far more accurate at distances over 15 feet 2. You may not stop the Intruder with just 2 shots....5 shots is an almost certain guarantee 3. Better control can be had with a Revolver and its far more intimidating in hopes you don't have to squeeze the trigger .
They can bleed to death not intimidated. If I need 7, 8, 15 shot in an everyday scenario I’m either dealing with a situation I could have gotten out of or I’m going to jail for dumping a magazine out of panic and hitting someone unarmed etc. kids in a waiting car. If one approaches another and enters within 5 feet of their personal space in a way that makes them feel their life is in danger, one shot will do and you wont do 7 years for manslaughter.
I would add that practicing the draw and cocking maneuver is a good idea but would not practice the pulling of the trigger in that movement. A person will generally do what is practiced and if you intend to just draw you may actually pull the trigger putting someone in the grave when not actually necessary at that moment. Granted many say if they have to pull it out its time to shoot but that is not always the case.
Curtis M Howell Jr Tell us when you would pull your gun and not discharge it??! Normal guy not from a cops pov. I take things personal at the point I may have to pull a gun. If you see the business end, a flash and pain is soon to follow!! I'm taking all the steps to keep from needing a gun, if I need it it's no time for games.
morris4069 I agree in part. Yes if i have to draw my weapon then it's pretty much go time. But, my point was that in that situation training takes over. And if i don't actually have to discharge the weapon i'd hate to take a life by mistake. Just my personal thoughts on it.
Curtis M Howell Jr No really, from other than a cop/security person pov, what situation is one going to be in that they wouldn't want to draw and shoot? To hesitate once you've made the decision to draw and point a gun at someone, you better shoot before you become the victim. Now telegraphing to a shitbag that you are not the guy to be screwing with is all together different. Simply being ready to defend by adjusting your position, turning your gun side away, even as much as placing your hand on the grip and verbal command is more than reasonable. Should a shitbag continue, he's toast!! Shooting only to stop the threat is your goal, lethal shot placement is your best chance to stop a threat. Leave head shots to the movies!! Several to the center mass and if that's not effective you start on the pelvis to break the structure. Shit bag will go down once you shatter the hips/upper leg bones.
@@morris4069I KNOW that if you PULL your WEAPON you MUST be in imminent peril for yourself or a loved one etc! LEGALLY!!!!!!!!!! Once that condition is MET than its off to the AFTER LIFE for the bad guy- you do not have to give warning etc during a life and death situation other than sending the BAD guy to the AFTER LIFE...........Highly suggest three to four to the skull (38, 45 ACP, 357, 44), and four to the chest to STOP the threat! Working in the emergency room trauma center for over twenty years I have NEVER seen ANYONE survive those shot placements! Of course, i did see one man shot in the face with a 22 an the bullet was sticking out of his chin and he was sitting up talking in no major pain! This is only my opinion!
I AGREE that two rounds is a GAMBLE with YOUR OWN life! Each situation is SO different as is most people environments. While I dont carry just one weapon, if carrying the two shot, i would need to carry atleast six rounds with me in a ready to use manner like a belt with round holder built in for fast and easy accessing. When in doubt carry two shoulder 44 magnum revolvers snub nose short barrel, two 357 magnum waistband pistols, two back up subcompact 45 on ankles and extra magazines in your back! This process has worked for me fine for a LONG time! Ofcourse, i wear multi layer clothes with a jacket of some type to conceal my printing completely. My backpack is bullet resistant also with kevlar which is now under 100.00 per side online!
@BrutalJuice I have plenty of practice so I don't need 18 shots. Suppose a nut come running in with an AR15 you gonna stop him with a derringer? ROTFLMAO!
A 3" .410 shot shell in 000 buckshot fires 5 9mm size pellets at 1200 ft/sec. At 10 feet the spread from a 3" Bond Derringer is only 5" and will absolutely do the job. That means with 2 rounds, you are shooting 10, 9mm bullets...but instead of trying to hit someone with a pencil eraser size bullet, you're using a grapefruit size volley.
Can you explain a little further? I'm a newbie. My job just moved to a very seedy part of town. I lock up a couple nights a wk. I'm considering a small CC purchase. Want something really small but can make a statement in 1 shot. I'm gathering info for now. Thx
The chances of anyone ever having to draw our weapon are so small but if i do i have at least a 5rd smith or seecamp 380. People watch to many movies where the bad guy goes face down instantly with one shot.
This video was instrumental in my decision to buy a bond Arms roughneck. I regret that. On the range, it randomly provides light strikes on one barrel. Bond replaced a barrel without even examining the gun. It still does it with the replacement barrel and bond still refuses to check the gun under warranty. They will check the gun only if I bear the expense. For a two month old gun, I won’t do that. So it would be a paperweight except I find it disgusting to look at
@@mrsir2378 Bond later made things completely right. They covered all expense and fixed the problem. It shoots fine now and is enjoyable to shoot. I sometimes carry but usually carry something lighter. That said, i would sell thru FFL
Being able to draw from close range and get an edge on your attacker by surprising them with a weapon they don't see. This is great for woman who are being attacked if someone is armed with a gun is attacking maybe kidnapping they won't even know what happened until they feel gut shot from a Derringer. My wife carries one chambered in .38 round my mother had a friend who was cornered in a rest stop bathroom 1980's she had a Derringer she pulled on a guy who wasn't armed he ran jumped in his 18 wheel truck took off she was sure she would have been raped or worse. There wasn't any cell phones back then by the time she got to a pay phone the guy was never found.

Nice gun.
Good video
Haven’t seen many vids in a while! Hope all is well
Can you link to that holster? I’m looking for that very thing. Thx
Good technique… thanks for sharing! Do you have the extended grip?
Also..just do as the manual says..pullback and down..and that trigger will do the job!
Unkei
Damm good video and info thank you
What ceilings height do you have in your house? Thank you!

Tell us when you would pull your gun and not discharge it??!
Curtis M Howell Jr
No really, from other than a cop/security person pov, what situation is one going to be in that they wouldn't want to draw and shoot?
Do you know the model of that Galco holster at the start of the video? Thanks for sharing !
Good point
Two rounds may be enough or it may not and I don't like that odds. I carry my Beretta PX4 loaded with 18 rounds for the peace of mind.
+Bill White I could not agree with you more. One round should be far more than enough!
Can you explain a little further? I'm a newbie. My job just moved to a very seedy part of town. I lock up a couple nights a wk. I'm considering a small CC purchase. Want something really small but can make a statement in 1 shot. I'm gathering info for now. Thx
Sounds logical to me!
You’re not getting 1200fps with .410 fired from a derringer.
Can't find that holster anywhere???
I have tried to find the Galco E919T holster that you recommend with no success ,do you have a link I could use?
Great video. Anymore info on your holster would be much appreciated. I've searched the number in your description and reply to no avail. Thanks
The chances of anyone ever having to draw our weapon are so small but if i do i have at least a 5rd smith or seecamp 380. People watch to many movies where the bad guy goes face down instantly with one shot.
2 buckshot is 8 projectiles though, all of them hit like .380 or better, especially out of Judge.
Did I miss the why part?
This video was instrumental in my decision to buy a bond Arms roughneck. I regret that. On the range, it randomly provides light strikes on one barrel. Bond replaced a barrel without even examining the gun. It still does it with the replacement barrel and bond still refuses to check the gun under warranty. They will check the gun only if I bear the expense. For a two month old gun, I won’t do that. So it would be a paperweight except I find it disgusting to look at
I'll buy it
@@mrsir2378 Bond later made things completely right. They covered all expense and fixed the problem. It shoots fine now and is enjoyable to shoot. I sometimes carry but usually carry something lighter. That said, i would sell thru FFL
@@couerleroi1 lmk your price, I'm a ccw holder in Florida
