    I've tried several resonator guitar and always found the Gretsch to the ones that surprised me the most with their sound and build quality. Great tune.

      Have either of you guys played the Boxcar (spider bridge)? I have one now and had the Honeydipper (biscuit) for a couple years, i was great, but i like the wooden body BUT like the biscuit cones better (i think)..... so Alligator may be exactly what im looking for.

    • @DogwithtwoBones
      @DogwithtwoBones 3 роки тому +1

      @@wheninroamful i have a squareneck bobtail which is also a spider. Sounds great for bluegrass but for blues or fingerpicking the biscuit’s sound is the gold standard. The alligator compared to the honey dipper will have way more bass and an overally more balanced and warm sound. I have a comparison on my channel.

      @@DogwithtwoBones I am glad I found this video because I just bought the Boxcar and the Honey Dipper, I wanted to see which one was best.
      But to MY ears, the honey dipper sounds more like a banjo!! The Box Car sounds really nice but when I recorded It, it sounded more like an acoustic guitar and that's not what I was looking for. It really didn't sound like a resonator.
      Needless to say, I may be going with the Alligator and see how that one works out. I really wanted the honey dipper but in my opinion, the Box Car was better. On to the Alligator now. 🎸👍

    Nice. What tuning high to low?

  • @simonverkerk8392
    @simonverkerk8392 2 роки тому +1

    I think that has a sweeter sound and the Boxcar is louder.

    Love the song! Great sounding guitar. Do you by chance have a link of the drawing of the four men holding a alligator? I would love to make a label from it for inside my guitar!

    I picked up my first resonator guitar and picking it up tomorrow. It is new to me, I have three other acoustics .... It will be quite a new jaunt for me. I've tried to find people playing one but they were all dabbling, .. this sounds more like playing ... thank you. so I subscribed. Who knows what I'll come up with?

    Great,great groovy playing man. In your hands your Alligator sounds damn good, nearly national like!
    Really was amazed listen to your Tampa Red-style tune. Do you have a newer one on wich they made the rremovable handrest things?!

    Very cool video, but i've a question about your guitar. as you both it, was the intonation fine? E - E on the 12th fret was well? or was the tone sharp? why i'm asking. I've bouth a resonator and on the 12th fret the tone was between E and F, the funny issue is, that the flagoet was ok on each string.

      I’d say they’re more than likely flat wound strings.

    Hello, may I please ask you, did you make any upgrades on the guitar? Because I bought the same guitar and when I play slide, there is a lot of buzzing. It doesn't happen when I play fingerpicking or strumming, it actually sounds awesome that way. The buzzing doesn't happen on my old acoustic, so i don't think it is caused by bad technique. Would you please give me any advise? I would be gratefull thanks.

    • @fanofmarilan9076
      @fanofmarilan9076 2 роки тому

      It could be one of several things.Check the action.If it's too low,that's probably what's causing the buzzing.

    What strings do you have on your Alligator? You seem to get a lot more sustain out of a light touch than I do on mine.
