Hi I have this locomotive it runs slow on the track and track is clean and the wheels are to I was wondering what else could be some other possible issues the locomotive also stops and lights remain on
Wow! A new set for the restorations. Felt as though I should put on a surgical mask while watching this operation. Thanks, keep them coming. John Birmingham
You may want to take a look to see if there's any Hobby shops nearby, because if you have shells, you may be able to get the rest of the engines or sell those and get new ones or whatever you choose
Great video , just one request- could you max. up the volume a bit more next time ?- you're quite soft spoken and it's hard to hear what you're saying. Thanks.
If you are running plastic wheels on your layoout, some of the black is plastic residue. Metal wheels on your rolling stock greatly reduces the problem. Nice "How To" video.
I have a BACHMANN ENGINE FROMM 88 seems to have a very small engine at one end with a stack of weights behind it for the weight factor. hopefully I can get it going . been in a box for 30 years
I also have engines from 40s and 50s. 60s 70s and so on. Don't know about there maintenance. But... Have been able to clean ,repair, and lubricate all parts to a successful run. Some have been worse than other but all same out come. Great runners. Pain staking part is waiting for parts or finding them. As in lionel GT 5511. Or lionel similar to this with the bottom of trucks.
Have an unnamed HO locomotive made in Macau. The whe ETF ks wont roll under piwer. Where can i send it to be serviced,ty. I slso have what i believe to be a walthers stea. Locomitive with red ciw catcher in front.. It apoears that the drive is in the tender??? When i add power to it the tender " bears down" on track but doednt move ,ty
Thank you for wonderful vid on this process. We just inherited some an HO model set with 3 engines (1 steam with gear drive and 2 diesel, a shutner and main line) that have been sitting for about 40 years. Again thank you!!!
Don't know if anyone could help but I cleaned and checked all my connections on two locomotives i jsut bought, they still are not working for me. both sets of wheels are almost impossible to move by hand. the one I got to atleast make some engine noise (electrical noise) but that's it. Also then checked the track, it seems to get varrying voltage. need some tips please!!!
thank you for your videos a lot information I learned . I am looking for pan cake motor if you kindly or you about sites they sell this kind motor or it(parts) ? thanks a lot
Pancake motors are not terribly valuable so you can usually find them as spare parts in junked locomotives. No one makes them for HO locomotives but if you can find a locomotive of the same brand, from the same timeframe, it will probably have the same motor.
When it comes to electric traveling between metal to metal surfaces i place a little swipe of dielectric grease. To keep contact between the parts during operation.
Thanks for this vidio, how would scratchbuild a locomotive? I already have a design, i just have to build it, it’s a cylender with straight lines enstead of rounded all the way
@@SMTMainline, okay, i’m getting a roll of alluminium, a brass strip and some thin steel rods to work with, i’m also using real coal for the loads and bunkers of the engines
If you're doing a full teardown of the unit, you might as well clean everything while your at it. Think of the lococmotive as a mechanical watch that needs to be stripped down, cleaned, lubed and reassembled.
I got an old A.S.&T.F. Loco (from the 50's) and the motor works but something mechanical isn't making contact, I'm guessing the worm gear isn't making contact with the drive wheel gear. If anyone has any thoughts on what it is please comment and have a great day!
great video! I've been debating on weather or not to brave the cold and bring down my 4 boxes of Christmas train sets. Maybe I can get them running and pass them along to a nephew. If you can give me a little bit of inspiration, I guess I should at least try. :-)
I'm learning a lot from you on how to fix my old Athearn Bluebox Locomotives Thank You mine are running better now I just wish I couls get the headlight mounts to snap back in place.
Awesome job Harrison you always do a good job on your locomotives and have an awesome day
Nice maintenance tutorial. Using my favorite road and loco helped 😊.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks for sharing how to do this properly.
The one dislike was probably a O scale fan! Haha, great video!
XD
The O scale fan should check out " Benz Trainz " videos for repair tips.
@@Petemonster62 i love benz trains
@@traptownncs9256 - Many of the repair tips that Ben shows, can be applied to Lionel steamers as well as Marx steamers.
@@Petemonster62 oh yes because marx and lionel were always coping each other back in the day

Well I would try this if most of my broken locomotives had more parts than just the shell

Love that Norfolk Southern EMD SD40 - 2
Love the NS COMPANY all together haha love the horse that's on it haha, nice setup background u should do this way evey time for working on trains

Awsome love the engine wish it was mine
Can you do a live stream tonight
Also I heard the wildebeest
Great video this would be handy
The Micro is too far away
Great video. Still too much work for me. :) How much do you charge?
950$ bucks an hour but some people such as you get "the smt super discount" which gives you 950$ off for each hour so it should be a pretty good deal.
I also offer a deal where you can get each loco repaired for 5$ each or 3 for 20$
SMT Mainline I can afford $5. And Ill pay for parts if you need them.
Thanks for this vidio, how would scratchbuild a locomotive? I already have a design, i just have to build it, it’s a cylender with straight lines enstead of rounded all the way
I think learning how to solder brass parts together would be a good start. They make kits you can build, you could combine some to get what you want.

hi smt congrulations for hitting 2k
Great video this will come in handy
Kitty !!
You are so cute!
Nice NS loco. I will definitely need this soon.
Ironically, I have this exact locomotive in my collection. well, not the EXACT same, but same model!
Enjoy our videos!! Where can I obtain parts small bolts/ screws repl. Motors- gears?? Pjm

Just found my Athearn locomotive from my childhood in the attic. I’m in search of someone to give it an overhaul. Do you offer that kind of service?
thanks for not showing how to take the covers off the trucks
They are held in with pressure but I wouldn't pull them since they won't hold well after. There isn't much reason to pull them out anyway.
I have three Dc trains would you recommend upgrading to DCC? Thank You
I need help with life like diesel locomotive with a rubber drive shaft to truck gearbox. What's the best way to fabricate another shaft???

Realy helpful, as i buy stuff of of Ebay alot cuz new locomotives are way too expensive, use this realy offen. Thank's!
Since your train is black it’s hard to see any gears. It would help for some close ups when you take things apart. Thanks

I only watched half the video, but it got the train my boys and I just bought at the market up and running. Thank you.
This may be the most bravely generic video title ever, considering what he does
Great informative video thanks and keep them like this one cheers from 🇦🇺
I'm going to attempt to do this with my standard cab
What do you do with all your parts engines
Before you made this video I tried to do maintenance on one of my diesel locomotives. Let’s just say it smokes now.
That just makes it more realistic... but seriously, did you do something to the commutator?
What would you recommend doing for the newer Athearns that have the weight surrounding the motor?
The weight usually comes off if you pull upwards hard enough, just be careful they sometimes change things.
Great video thanks
Thanks very much for doing this. I can proceed with a bit of confidence now.
Excellent!
