I really liked the plates with food analogy to describe analytical and musical.
I've often been stumped by the description of a headphone being musical.
This metaphor makes it clearer to me.

@@chefgav1 This is BS based on one persons opinion, anecdotal evidence, a misunderstanding of how (in)accurate headphone measurements actually are (There will always be differences from rig to rig, headphone position on the rig, the training of the operator etc...) and the significant prevalence of unit variances.
You'll find the majority of people in the know still believe the 6XX and 650 are the same headphone. Which is also what Drop themselves claim it to be.
Not saying the rumour that they are different couldn't be true, its quite possible, but frankly there is not enough evidence to claim so. You'd need a larger sample size, measured on the same rig and or Drop actually admitting that the 6XX isn't a 650. And some guys ears do not equal proof, ears are far too fallible.
Regardless of all this, commenting on a video that is over a year old to criticise what was (and frankly still is) a widely held belief that the 6xx and 650 are the same headphone is as short sighted as putting your beliefs in anecdotal evidence.
Do you expect that your comment will go through a time loop back to when this video was published?
      But whatever, go off.

Nice review, big 6XX fan here. They can sound a little “dull” when you first swap from a brighter, treble-boosted headphone, but the detail is still there. But go back in the other direction and it’s like shoving screwdrivers in your ears! Variety is good, I own several headphones, but the 6XX is one you can listen to for four or five hours with no fatigue, well once you’ve loosened up the headband clamp.

Great review, I agree with every aspect of this review. One minor quibble , not just this review, but a lot of reviews, in regards to the bass.
Before I got the 6xx, I was expecting them to be bass lite, but I found them to have a good amount of bass. The only aspect of the bass that wasn't as noticeable as some headphones was the 20hz to 60hz region.
But what I find is that rolled off bass below 60hz isn't that noticeable with most music. It would be noticeable if the bass dropped off a cliff below 60hz, but a roll off still allows one to hear bass below 60hz.

HD 650 are the smoothest headphone i ever hear with that resolution, But there are others like Sundara that have better clarity and seperation but sound fake with metalic sound and the seperation and soundstage doesnt sound realistic like in real life that every instrument blend together. The gold Standar is the HD660s it has the perfect balance smooth but with clarity small soundsatge that works great for stereo music in your head sound , vocals in your head and not shout, seperation is not big with air betwwen the instruments its more realistic like listening music with instruments close to each other but without losing the texture and different sound of every instrument . HD660s are something that must listen side by side with every other headphone to understand how good they are.

Now that I own the HD6XX, I am in agreement with those who've noted that its high impedance (300 ohm) and overall presentation render it a stellar match for output transformer-less (OTL) vacuum tube headphone amplifiers (xDuoo TA-26 in my case) and music high in "organic" instrument content, such as minimally processed vocals, classical, and jazz recordings.

I have so many headphones and i always use HD 650 ... for their smoothnes . Until i got 1 year ago the HD 660s at first it was strange because u get more clarity more fast and tighter sound their is some harshness on bad recordings , because HD 660 doesnt have the 650 famous veil that makes every music smooth. So i had to keep them both for different reasons .

  • @Tripokaridos22

600 are flatter, 650 are darker and 660S have more resolution , soundstage, air, clarity , tight bass Overall 660S have the goods from both 600 and 650. But to be honest 650 needed for bad recordings and 600 for neutral sound comparisons . And 660S for perfection .

Update in shipping to UK. Drop don't have an EU program anymore and it would not cover UK if they did. I ordered the 6xx a few weeks back, I paid on the drop site, few days after it shipped which was 3 weeks later as it was near the end of the cycle although there was a 1 week delay. Arrived in UK a few days later I had an email from their agent in UK with a simple import duties etc plus a 9 pound fee pay ent made online, and 2 days later they arrived. Overall a quite easy experience. Note that often with normal US I have to go and pay duties through UKGOV site, then pay for instance Royal mail or whoever a separate handling fee of between 5 and 20 pounds. I wouldn't have an issue buying from Drop again.

@@Tripokaridos22 Spamming is writing the same thing over and over again, which you have done quite a few times in this comment section. You even wrote the same thing multiple times.
I'm extremely skeptical that someone has bought all 11 models of the 500 series headphones. Also, on that I'm wrong that the HD560s doesn't sound like the HD660s, I live in a large metropolitan where I can actually audition them and they do sound the same. You can even find UA-camrs that compare them and say they are 2-5% difference. They are neutral headphones and not recessed highs with forward mid-range like the HD650, HD6xx, and HD600. Completely different sound signature. Even Sennheiser disagrees with you. This is what their official account on Head-fi wrote, "The bigger story here is its precise sound and lineage to our HD 6x0 series, namely the HD 660S". So yes, Sennheiser designed the HD560s with the same sound signature of the HD660s.

I have the most of them 560.569,579,599,598,598CS,58X ,from Drop, the old jubilee , i also have HD 600,650,660s,700, 6XX from Drop and 2 of them are the new Romania version also the one of them have the new white ring pad. If u read my Head -fi comments u gone see a lot of pictures of my headphones , i also have Sundara, Clears, and some others like HD 25 etch etch . I love headphones its my hoby. U cant have an opinion about Headphone with one audition without using your music anc dac amp also they are open backs they need silent environment , youtubers also dont have the XP and the hours because half of them paid to say what they say and the others have only 1-2 hours of listening, ME? i have more than 200-300 on most of them and used with different dac amps, So i know better ( it sounds bad i know but it is what it is) So let me help u ... HD 660s DO NOT sound the shame or close to HD 560s . They image better they are warmer more natural sound with small soudnstage , HD 560s are more nautral cold with bigger soundstage etch etch.... ALL HD 6 Line , ALL have the shame characteristics everyone knows that all of them have Vocals in front all of them are warm on high bass all of them have amazing timbre and all them have in your head soundstage , the differences are small for example the most Neutral are the 600 the most warm and smooth HD650 and HD 660s that i love have some of both of them with way better imaging ,separation and tight bass. Honestly the only headphone that maybe sounds close to HD 660s is the HD58X and NOT the HD 560s. At the end sorry for telling u that... But if u told me that u have 40 headphones like i did would be more realistic than Telling me HD 560s sound close to HD660s that is just not possible . About what Sennheiser write ... Let me remind u what they write on the BOX of HD 660s first series ( the legend continues) its was about 650 legend. What they write is how U WANT to translate it , and because i speak with Sennheiser they mean that the new HD 560s is closer to HD 6 line and not LIKE HD 6 line ... Yeah they are way Different compared to my HD 599 for example and yeah they are Closer to HD 600 or 650 or 660s but they ARE NOT share the shame soundsignature , FOR GOD shake even the angled drivers and pads give huge difference. Anyways u should know that Senneheiser some times write something to sell , i am not . They even write that HD 25 sound the shame with HD250 BT , trust me they dont. If u understand all these good for u . If u dont i wish u to have 25 Years XP like i do and have way more headphones than me and get your own opinion. Until then u should listen Others with more XP than u, that is something that i do For example Ichos and Solderdude are a good starting point for u also... Read their posts and u gone learn something . Or u can keep seeing UA-camrs and bealive what ever u want to bealive .

I guess Sennheiser and every single comparison review I've read are wrong, along with my own ears. By the way, I listened to them with a ifi Zen Can DAC and amp. They sell those too. I too have the HD6xx, along with the HD598, Focal Elex, and AKG K712 Pro. I tested the HD600, which were my favorite but the minor difference between them and the HD6xx wasn't worth the price. I thought the HD660s were very good but I wasn't looking for a neutral headphone. They sounded too close to my Elex without the punch and slam, along with lacking the detail. I wanted a warm headphone and they weren't it. My HD598 are closer to the HD6xx and HD600 than the HD660s to them in sound signature.

6XX series on Massdrop are the old Stock drivers and plastics . NEW Facelift October 2019 and after Original Sennheiser Series' made in ROmania have Waaaaaay better Plastics that dont crackling , better refinement on plastics , better paint , and better inside the pads quality materials. And yeah Sennheiser originals have better quality control than what Massdrop is getting.

@@faautobahna9416 The last stock parts has been moved to Romania Factory. Its was 3-4 months adaptive time. That's why some HD6 series headphones had the old grils and new pads . New HD6 series have the different headband, Driver with date after January 2020 (its written inside) the pads also are not Donut type 2.2 , they are Conical type 2.7 . If u want evidence u can call Sennheiser , or Read Head hifi forums. After they stock out the old ones ,Drop maybe will also get the new ones. Don't be afraid sound is the same , HD6xx smooth veiled sound, and HD660s resolution , imaging ,faster driver, tighter bass and little bit brighter than 6xx. Nothing change on sound.

So I think the treble on the 6XX is plenty "bright". My only comparison is other Sennheiser headphones. I've owned only Senn's for nearly 10 years now(stopped using headphones at all for probably 4 of those years). Compared to all others I've used the treble is incredibly detailed and even too strong for my ears at some high frequencies. I'm very sensitive to treble, though. I can only imagine with many other brands I wouldn't be able to tolerate them at all if they're much brighter than these.

Oh yea you're right. If the hd6xx is boredrline bright for you, Many of the well known headphones would be too bright for you.
You definitely wouldn't want any beyerdynamic headphones, that's for sure.

since this original comment I went down the rabbit hole and have owned Focal Elex, Radiance, Clear MG(I like them all). Also Beyerdynamic 1990 Pro's(stupidly harsh 9k peak). And Audeze LCD-X 2021 model. I don't use any of them despite still having all the Focal and the Audeze. Just 6XX. The comfort and amazing vocals win me over. Need to sell all the rest.

    • @WheezyTech

I never knew this was such a contentious pronunciation until now. Its very common in England, although not universal, probably more a regional thing, to say 'haytch' rather than 'aitch'. I do believe that 'aitch' is considered the most correct but 'haytch' is also accepted and I think in England, at least where I live, it is probably more common.
