I just obtained a Thunderbolt Miller and the indicator is missing for adjusting the amperage. Can anyone tell me which way to turn the knob on top to increase amperage? Probably clockwise to increase.

I've owned a few Miller machines and liked them all. And I would say I have burned maybe 50 thousand pounds of stick rod. Mostly 7018 or 7024. Back in the late 70's and the early 80's. The oilfields were good to me.

Fellows if you have a wishing mechine you have 230amp. Buy battery cable or 30 to 50 amp cord approximately 25 ft. and welding outlets. Set up or a 30 amp generator is cheaper then an electrician.

When I took welding in high school there was a brick at every station and we were taught to scratch the tip of the rod on the brick to remove the thin coating on the end of the rod to make that first strike easier. I'm not a professional welder but I still do it and I find it works for me. I'd probably fail inspection on an ironworking site though.
I bought this same welder today for $100 because my little flux core welder won't penetrate 1/4" enough for me to trust it on my boat trailer. I cranked it up and it melted right through some 1/4" thick drops of 4" square tube. This is a good welder in my opinion. Yours went through a flood too. Impressive. I appreciate you. Thank you for sharing your skills knowledge and experience
