Thank you for sharing this! After months of researching via UA-cam... I finally narrowed down that the perfect boat type and size for my needs is a 1436 Jon. I have been seeing them in rough shape on FB marketplace for as few as $300 to $800 with a galvanized trailer. The would just need an overhaul... but I will be adding casting decks anyways! So paint and such would be coming either way. I absolutely love the size of deck you chose to go with. Most bring it back to the front bench... but it takes out that seating... and I was wondering if the deck would be large enough if I did something like what you did. Looks like it is. How is it when actually fishing??? I want to being the two little ones with me... giving seating in the middle for one is a big deal for me. I am still trying to narrow down to either going with wood (like you) that is super-sealed in a thick layer of epoxy, painted, and then has marine deck added to the top. OR going with diamond plate sheeting that has non-skid added and then painted a lighter color to keep it cooler. OR going with regular aluminum sheets... etching/painting... and then adding sea deck.
Thanks for your comment and thoughts. You can check out some of my more recent videos to see how the deck works. It’s plenty big for me. Here’s my latest video on that boat. ua-cam.com/video/-5r6s2oxduc/v-deo.html
No. I actually did not rivet through the side of the boat. I only went through the front seat a ridge. That would be neat to learn sometime. This was my first time installing a rivet.
That’s how the boat is built, so yes. I did not rivet through the hull, but if I had of, I’d probably put some clear caulk in the hole after I drilled it.
I got the sane breed of dog, love him so much. I am a new boat owner and have .02 carpentry skills, so I’ll likely do something even simpler.
They're great! Loves chasing birds.
@@Never_Enough_Outdoors and they are natural photo bombers
looking great keep at it. I"ll be doing mine in a week or so and it will be my first time as well .
Thanks and good luck with yours! Patience is key.

Thanks!
Did I just see you put a pop rivet in the side of your boat. As a airplane mechanic, I wonder why boat guys refuse to buck a rivet.

If not having access to the tools to do buck rivets, you can use a closed end rivet with some 5200 sealant and it’ll be just fine.
Can you rivet the side of your boat and it not leak?
That’s how the boat is built, so yes. I did not rivet through the hull, but if I had of, I’d probably put some clear caulk in the hole after I drilled it.
How many pieces of aluminum did you need for this? 8 foot sections?
I used a total of 4, 8’ sections for both the front and back decks
