Hello Jon!!! I was thinking about Charlie (my 4020) today and wondering if you were able to sneak him into the shop in between other looming jobs. I see he is now a video celebrity! Very relieved to see the internals look to be in good shape. A big "Thank You" to you, your dad, and your better half for keeping our old iron working.
Love any video on the 4020s. These transmissions are excellent transmissions. We have a 3020 diesel power shift at the dairy I help out on. At one time it was the biggest tractor on the farm until a 4430 showed up. For a long time it was on feed cart duty. With well over 20,000 hours on that tractor, the transmission has never been touched.
Nice! You imagine back in the day? What a 3020 power shift diesel was brand new. What type of tractor were they probably driving and then you get that. That kind of had to be an exciting time.
@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 I bet it felt like you had the world by the balls, at least until you saw your neighbor drive by on a 4020 power shift.🤣🤣🤣
Nice video. I’m at the same stage on a 4955. Lost reverse and it was the o rings like your job that had failed. Heck of a work to get to them but I’ve found a lot of small things that have been getting repaired along the way. I think it’s worth keeping these older machines going; far superior build quality than today’s tractors.
Nice. Absolutely. That tractor is your time to fix everything and anything that you can. You can't replace these older tractors. I put a pile of money into that forty for thirty, But at the same time the only thing that money could have afforded me would have been A couple years worth of payments on a newer tractor that would have ended up needing a bunch of work itself.
Great video Jon! on my 64 3020 powershift, once in a while if i park on a downhill grade with a load behind the tractor I can't get it out of park. Anything going on there? Also, even on flat ground i have to throw the selector into forward before I can reverse. The selector will go into reverse position, but tractor won't move unless move the selector is moved to forward first. Is that normal for an early powershift?
The down hill and load are just putting a lot of pressure on the park, turn wheels or chalk the wagon if you have to park on a slope. When you select reverse does it click into reverse. I would check linkage under the dash for slop and go from there
Jon, for someone who has adhd, this was very well explained. I liked the visual aid as well as the thorough explanation of how the PowerPoint linkage and 3 point work. Do you have any videos on a synchro range 3010 or 4020 that I could see?
our 4020 shifter often needs an extra tap to the left after shifting into reverse to make the tractor actually move in reverse. would that likely be slop or wear in the shift linkage?
Question, can you make a video on how to rebuild the draft control on the 3 point of a 4640? Mine is leaking and would like to fix it my self. The cast box on the right hand side of the rear case. Thanks
I don't know if I ever get one in here. It should be pretty straight forward. partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/sidebyside/equipment/83614/referrer/search/pgId/254662

@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 this farm had two John Deere Bs and two Farmall Super M and a Ford with some kind of loader.
@@danw6014 Can you imagine going from a john deere B to a 3020 powershift.

You should do a quick video on the teardown of the shift valve please
Great video, very informative!
Thank you.
"if I won the lottery" Me too Jon
Love my 65 4020 diesel wide front power shift with 2 remotes and diff lock
Great video I really like it 👍👍
Thank you.
Another good one
Thanks.
How us the beach treating you this year?
Found out who's tractor that is today. And the person who helped deliver it.
The "help" comes at a cost. I had to feed him at Heidelbergers.
Ha, your uncle. He is a hoot.
Great video Jon!

Everyone else was playing catch up to John Deere after they combined the power shift and the sound guard cabs on their tractors
I would agree. The competition had a lot of good qualities, But deere really had a complete package back then.

Usually. The pin or fork or both
I once heard about something in the power shift that is so expensive to fix it may not be worth it. Would love a video on that of you know what it is.
That's a fantastic idea. I will try to come up with a fun video
Iv got a 4020 that high transmission gears dont work no noise just shiter shifts but engagment
Meaning that when you go to 7th and 8th it goes to nuetral?
