    1:27 to 2:18 is gold! 😀 Some of the straightest instruction I have run across in interior design videos. So good! Particularly enlightening is your statement that the main furniture pieces should inform the design plan for your room. For those of us not trained in interior design, the go-to advice is often proffered that you should just paint the room. It's becoming more clear as I watch your channel that fabrics and large pieces are where the color palette begins, then paint choices and decor choices come out of that palette you have selected. As always, a terrific video, Doug! Thanks!!

      You keep making me rewatch my videos, Cara. I thought, "what on earth did I say at 1:27?" You are exactly right! Paint is cheap. Sofas and upholstered pieces are expensive. We should all spend our decision time and dollars getting the right main pieces to design a room around. Thanks again for you comments!

      Hi. Just discovered your channel and I am binge watching all your videos. Very very informative. Probably the most informative I have come across. Thank you.
      Does the sectional rule still apply for the 3 seater with a chaise? I just purchased one and it will arrive in April. Thank you for your help.

      @@fernandaweissman5359 Thanks for binging, you're awesome! Personally, I feel like a 3 seater sofa with an attached chaise at one end limits your future arrangement options. However, if you've got the right arrangement for it, don't lose money cancelling your purchase! Instead, consider how your sofa will fit in a future home the next time you're house-hunting. Or figure in the cost of a replacement sofa as part of the next-home-purchase/move budget, just in case it won't appropriately fit into that future home. Obviously, the small chaise leg is not nearly as limiting as a large L-shaped sectional.

      @@roominesstv Great! Thank you for getting back to me. I also purchased 2 accent chairs. I also think the 3 seater with the chaise is not as limiting as the other larger options.
      Thank you much! Your channel really is informative. I love it.

    I prefer a 3 seater leather sofa that looks professional and very comfortable and 2 high back leather armchairs over a sectional any day.

    I'm looking for a sofa that can comes in parts because I can't get an assembled one up the stairs to my apt. Is there such a thing? If so, what are they called?

      Hey thanks for the comment. Looks like you'd be after a "sofa-in-a-box." Here's an article with reviews on ten of them:

      Hopefully you find one that fits your style and budget!

    What’s wrong with cup holders? Cheap looking?

    • @roominesstv
      @roominesstv  4 місяці тому +1

      Hey Kevin - thanks for the question. In a word, yes. To add some more context:
      As with all suggestions on Roominess, you are the person who needs to enjoy your home, not me. If cupholders make you happy, go for it.
      If I can assume that you're someone who wants to up your decor game, then I'm here to help you understand what the pros do and (when I can) why they do it. Designers are looking for classic shapes and styles in furniture. They want elegance as well as comfort. They want a room that says something about not just mood, but aesthetic.
      Overstuffed sectionals with cupholders are basically the pajamas of furniture. Comfortable and functional, absolutely. But they are a giant void in the room when it comes to style or aesthetic. You may see a decor publication show off cupholdered-furniture in a dedicated theater/TV room, but I can nearly guarantee you won't see a designer intentionally place a sectional with cupholders in a typical family/living room setting.
      Hope that helps!

      @@roominesstv wow you couldn’t make anymore sense! I feel like I’m facing a tough decision, whether to go with what feels best to bring family closer with a sectional or chase the look of a hotel lobby which I like. Are there cheap ways to have college interns help with an interior design. I have a knack for others living rooms but for my own it’s impossible because it’s mine and I’m never satisfied.

    • @roominesstv
      @roominesstv  3 місяці тому

      @kevinjames1587 if you feel like a sectional will function better for your family and your room will accommodate it, go for it. Most likely a sectional sofa is out there in the style of the hotel lobby you're looking at. (Cool design inspiration idea, by the way!)
      As for ways to get help with design - college interns is one possibility. You might also try the furniture store where you're looking at sectionals. Some furniture retailers (higher end ones, admittedly) have designers on staff. I'm not sure if the service is free, but you could ask.
      You also might try Roomstyler.com. It's a free web app to design your rooms yourself. I used it to create most of the graphics on the videos. You might be more satisfied with your own living room design if you go into it with a full plan.
      Hope that helps!
