How about a *"Final Countdown"* sceario? 80's US Carrier caught in a weird time dimensional storm, finds itself off the coast of Hawaii just before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. F14's against Japanese Zeros and bombers. The battle that was never realized in the movie!
I wonder how the A-6 would do as well in that scenario, no doubt the japanese carriers would be easy prey, but how would they do vs enemy fighters? And what about the A-8, we've seen that it's a capable dogfighter in some scenarios as well due to VIFFing and other things it has up it's sleeve.

Before you crown the A-10 king, you need to consider that neither the tanks or the bombers had fighter cover. Certainly the F-22 could prosecute the bombers with minimal hinderance by any enemy fighters, but I am not so sure about the A-10.
The A-10's GAU-8 Avenger 30mm cannon is legit like a dozen normal heavy fighters slugging their 30mm cannons at once. The only way to make this even better is if we had tracers on the 30mm Gattling - fully indicating the ballistics of the BRRT!
Generally, if we're talking about a "modern" plane being able to fight WW2 aircraft on their terms... the A-10 would be the best. For the slower speed would enable the A-10 to avoid issues where it's closing at many times the top speed of even a WW2 fighter, and yet its modern control surfaces would give it a level of control and maneuverability that a plane of the A-10's physical size in WW2 might not have had, thus keeping it competitive with dedicated fighters of the time... while its armor would then also give it some degree of protection.
@ “If I went out and fought an F/A-18 on day one I’d get destroyed," said Flatley. "But if you do what the jet is really good at, you can do things those other jets wouldn’t dream of." I thought this same thing, so I was surprised to see you made this-this was awesome. Another one that I thought would be better than the F-22 is the F-15EX. Since the AIM120D didn’t seem to be that effective, perhaps a full payload of sidewinders.
I can just hear the crew chief now - "What do you mean GS took an A-10 again? FFS! You'd better ring the defence department and tell 'em to get their cheque book out" 🤣
If the Allies managed to get a Warthog in WW2, the German Reich would probably nickname it *"Donner spucken"* or *Spitting Thunder* due to the sound the Gattling Gun makes as it mows down entire Wings of Bombers or even Fighters in seconds 😂 Arguably I think something like the Warthog is better then some of the more modern and faster aircraft because although slower, it allows for more accuracy. But the enemy plains are also still slower so its that happy medium. Plus it can tank any damage received by their guns.
Yeah I think the armor is the most important part. It can safety sit within range of those bomber gunners to line up gun runs. An F22 will get fucked if sprayed with pretty much any machine gun fire at those ranges.
If the Allies actually managed to get A-10s in WW2, I am pretty sure there would have not been enough Germans left to contemplate a name for the new aircraft they had just witnessed. But I agree: Donnerspucken sounds great!
Not only is an A-10 in WW2 a fantasy but so is a large formation of JU-88A's doing a daylight bombing run on a British airfield during the summer of 1944 (note D-Day markings on the parked allied aircraft). I wonder if you could fly a legit night fighter sortie (P-61 versus Japanese aircraft or Bf-110G with radar versus British formations).
Maybe now, if possible, let’s see how an F-18 would handle attacking a Japanese carrier group. Also, not sure if you saw the footage of a Turkish F-4 engaging in some maneuvers with an Iranian F-14 recently. Maybe a video about how that might have played out if things went hot.
It's really interesting to see how aircraft dimensions have changed over the decades. The A-10, a single seat CAS gunboat, is all but as big as these crewed strategic bombers.
As one of the people suggesting this A10 battle I gotta say not only was this more effective than the F22 sortie but also probably a solid $50M cheaper
How about a squadron of A-10s doing a bomber mission from WW2? Not only could the A-10 take out an entire bomber formation single-handed, but it could also carry nearly as many bombs as a B-17 too with only one crew member at risk per mission. Put a few sidewinders on each plane for self-defense and they might not even need escort
