Thanks, Matt! I have done a few re-entries with H Rails and by themselves, they aren't really a hinderance. The stuff that attaches to them (electronics, rod holders, etc...) are what really get in the way. With that said, all of those things would be on the kayak with or without rails... Worse case, just re-enter from the front or back.
My main concern is the weld nut , getting pulled out . We are talking about plastic holding solid. My thought was a little trickier. Feeding plate a threaded plate through bottom that has been drilled in deck . Feed a piece of electrical wire with plate on the end . Pulled up though the under side of the deck . Secured in place then rail mount bolted to that . Much stronger mounting application won't pull out .
Hi Paul, that's a great idea and totally up to the user. I personally haven't had an issue with the well nut in a year and half. With that said, I never lift the kayak's entire weight by rails. I do, however, use the rails to flip the kayak on it's side to put my cart in the scupper holes.
Hi Stephen, To a certain degree but it's very negligible. When the rudder control is full left, and you want to go full right, you have to have your hand a bit flatter than normal but it took me about 10 minutes to get used to it. After that, I didn't even notice. You could put the little steering ball on there to make it even easier. (Hobie part number 88991355) I personally run my hand under the rail and, after the above mentioned 10 minutes, I find it completely comfortable.
Good video, Have you tried a re-entry with these rails installed? Any issues if so? I was thinking of installing rails but that was my only concern.

Thanks for the reply, This will probably be my next upgrade to the yak!

Great idea and thanks for the video. What H-Rails are those? I have a 2017 hobie outback but can’t find rails for it. Thanks for any help
Great video!
Need a mic or something.. this audio is really hard to understand.
nick, does the rail interfere with steering. It your hand comfortable under or over the rail?
