What Size Tires Will Fit A Chevy Trail Boss Without Cutting?

  • The Chevy Silverado Trail Boss has very narrow wheel wells in the front and will not accept a much larger tire. What will you have to do to increase the tire size? That's the question that I try and answer in this video.

    That offset is the main issue. Running a 0 up to about -10 instead of -24 would help how close that tire gets drastically.

    The offset of aftermarket wheels has a huge impact on whether a bigger tire will rub. The stock offset is +24, and if you stay in that same range (down to about +18), you can get away with a 295/70R18, which is a hair under 34" (it's approximately 33.7" x 11.2"). But you won't get that aggressive stance because you're keeping the tire inside the wheel wells. But yes, if you want poke, you need to lift the sh*t out of your Chev, and even worse for a GMC. However, going to 7" to fit 35s is a bit overboard - there's plenty of Trail Boss set ups out there that have just 2" over stock (so about 4" if you include the factory 2" lift) that fit 35s, with some trimming.

Bravo for giving the straight dope! Much appreciated. I've decided to stay stock to also keep the stock center of gravity. This thing is a beast already. Have a 21 LT Trailboss and just did Bilstein 6112's on front with Bilstein Upper Control Arms and Bilstein dual reservoir 5160's on rear. Got approximately 1.25 inches of lift in the front with 0 on the rears, so it is pretty much level and then put 35" Nitto Ridge Grapplers (285/75R 18) with the mud flap delete kit and ¼" spacers. Looks terrific is an understatement and gained around 2" of height from the tires and shock height adjustment (but leveled), the tires are super quiet on the road compared to the crappy OEM Duratrac's, and the ride over heavy washboard dirt roads is perfect with zero of that nasty rear end side to side chatter with those junk Ranchos. Didn't expect the ride on pavement to be so comfortable too but it definitely is and if you want a quality set of 35"s for height and quieter performance, a good level truck, a far better and more capable suspension than stock, and zero rubbing at full throw in 4WD then this right here is your formula and you can still use the Auto mode for drive selection unlike regular level and/or the Readylift SST 2.0 kits. It's not cheap but it's the trick setup and love driving it fast out in the boonies now👍

    Great looking truck ! I’m running 35” Nitto ridge grapplers with a leveling kit and minimal front mud flap trimming. Running the the same wheels you have in 18x10 and -24 offset. Our truck has been wheeled in Wyoming, South Dakota and many other places. Mostly though in the Daniel Boone Back Country Byway in the red river gorge area of Kentucky. Great place to wheel, y’all should check it out some time.

      Hi! I have a 2021 custom trail boss running the wrangler Goodyear duratrac tires. Looking to do the nitto ridge grapplers, my dad has the same but they’re 33’s on his F150 and they look really good. Do you recommend them on the trail boss??

    • @buckeyejeeper9996
      @buckeyejeeper9996 2 роки тому +1

      @@blkbeastz71 absolutely the best tire I’ve ever purchased. I have 17k miles on them so far, been through many rocky terrain and never had an issue with them. They still have over 3/4 tread left on them and they ride good as well as quiet on the road.

      @@buckeyejeeper9996 thanks! I currently have a 2 inch lift from the factory, was looking into doing a 3.5 from rough country. Do I need the 3.5 to fit the nitto’s? Or do you think I can fit it in with the 2 inch I have now?

    • @buckeyejeeper9996
      @buckeyejeeper9996 2 роки тому +1

      @@blkbeastz71 all I have over top of the factory trail boss 2” lift is a rough country 1.5” leveling kit up front. There’s better options out there like the ready lift. But I simply chose it for the price and sake of saving some cash. Done a front mud flap bracket delete and that was it. I believe the ready lift raises the front 2” and comes with a spacer for the rear on top of the factory 2” lift. It probably rides better, but it’s whichever you’d prefer. A level in front got me all I needed to clear the 35” Nitto’s.

    • @buckeyejeeper9996
      @buckeyejeeper9996 2 роки тому

      @@blkbeastz71 with the factory wheels they will fit without a level with minimal rubbing though from what I’ve read. Unfortunately I put aftermarket wheels on already with -24 backspacing so I added the leveling kit up front.

    It's the negative offset that causes the problems. If you went to a positive offset those 33's should fit fine rather than going to a smaller tire.
