I told a few people, and they keep asking me what I want to do with this major and I am like, "I have no idea! But! it seems pretty legit and I think this is my calling. So we shall see!" haha glad i'm not the only one that gets asked those questions all the time too.

I'm doing a bachelor's degree on animation at the moment but I'm going to change to digital photography. Though I've always been interested in languages and media. It's difficult when you have various interests.
Is communications just about speaking and conversing with others? What classes to you take?
Hey! In a sense yes, it is all about speaking and conversing. It is learning how to effectively communicate your ideas and opinions with others. The classes I have taken range. I have taken: Intro To Communications (which is a required Gen Ed class for my university), Relational Communications, Communication Theory, Communicating Ethically, and Communications and Community, those classes are the required classes for the communications major at my university. In addition to those classes I have taken Persuasion and Social Influence, Communication and Workplace Relations, Communication and Friendship, Social Identity and Popular Media, Organizational Communication. The classes you take really depends on what college/university you attend. Overall I have loved this major. Let me know if you have anymore questions! I'm happy to help!
I was wondering in this major do you have to take a lot of public speaking classes because to be honest I do get a little nervous standing in front of people doing presentations and speeches?
Hey! With majoring in Communications you will have to take some public speaking classes, however, everyone gets a little nervous when having to give a speech or presentation. I know that I still get nervous when I have to give a speech or presentation but it is all about just doing it and also putting yourself in situations where you have to present in front of people. For me personally, I used to get really nervous whenever I had to give a speech or presentation then I was presented with an opportunity to get onstage at my Church and host before the service started and by saying yes to that opportunity I have become more comfortable giving speeches and presentations. I think that it is all about the situations you put yourself in if you never get up in front of people and give a speech or presentation you will always be nervous and uncomfortable, but if you start putting yourself in the position to get up and give speeches and present you will become more comfortable. It's really all about how much you do it.
Jacob Williams Thats all the more reason to take a public speaking class :)
I have been considering this major. Whats the course work load like?
Hey, Tallitha! The course work load really depends on what college or university you choose to go to. I attend a state university so my course load could differ slightly from where ever you choose to attend. That being said honestly the course load is not that bad. Seeing as it is communications there will be a lot of speeches and presentations in most of the classes that you take. The difficulty of the classes vary, I have had super easy classes and I've had challenging classes. For me, the hardest communications class I have taken was definitely communications theory just because there are so many theories that you have to learn. Most of my classes have overlapped in some way, mainly using concepts I learned in another communication class and applying them to the class I am in. I chose to major in communications, kind of, on a whim and I have really enjoyed it. Let me know if you have any other questions! I'll be glad to answer them!!
