I'm really surprised how many people don't understand the Mae 'switch'. She tells you in the show. "my loyalty isn't to your master, it's always been to my sister". She's killing these Jedi because she believed they killed her sister... Now that she is alive, that is pretty essential information in regards to her motivation as to why she is killing Jedi.

    • @NinoMakos
      @NinoMakos 6 місяців тому +8

Appreciate that but remember that she wanted to kill Osha. So, unless she was manipulated back then how does that make sense? She has certainly seen things on Brendok that we haven't seen in the show. I really like the theory that she is manipulating her master right there, making him kill Kelnacca, which makes her succeed with the task to kill Jedi without a weapon.

@@NinoMakosShe wanted to kill Osha because she wanted to leave Mae. Mae only ever wanted Osha to remain with her on Brendack. Even at the end of Episode 3 she expected her to be at the tree. So to me, I think that her 180 makes sense. She loves her sister and wants to be back to her.
Plus, I have a feeling that Episode 3 is the events as Osha remembers them and is fragmented or incorrect. Im pretty sure that we're going to see it from Mae's side and then a third time from a neutral perspective.

Mae’s turn works for me. She didn’t kill the witnesses in ep 1. In episode 2 she visibly softened when she saw Osha. Sol says that when he told Mae Osha is alive she turned into a different person. I interpreted that to mean she had hope for a second before denial. In the last few days she has received new information to change her motivation. No more revenge but hope instead

    • @blueroninstudios

I dont think its the heel-turn, I think it's the quick heel-turn, or what feels like a quick heel-turn for her motivation that's angering some people.
But yeah, it does make sense to me. Mae obviously has anger issues, which makes her an ideal candidate for tapping dark side energy and using it effectively to kill Jedi. Im not gonna be surprised if we've already seen her master, but if its too obvious who this master is, I think some people are gonna be like "REALLY? THAT CHARACTER!?"
Im still stumped as to who Mae's master really is, but I have my suspicions. And Im loving the breadcrumbs they're leaving us, a little here a little there, weaving the web of mystery further and further. The show feels more like a mystery than a Star Wars property should, but for me personally .... it's working very well! But I've seen enough Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot adaptations to appreciate a good whodunit. But a whodunit in the Star Wars universe! BRING IT ON!

I think people's feeling that Mae's switch came out of nowhere is what this show is doing so well - it's really revealing our preconceived notions about what is happening and what people's intentions are. We see red lightsaber and black cloak and immediately assume 'sith', we see Mae learning from them and immediately assume 'Mae wants to be a sith and gain power and control through the dark side', we see Mae attacking a Jedi 'for no reason' at a bar and assume she's just killing random jedi because that's what sith do, and we see her liking the witches who we assume to be evil dark siders because they aren't jedi despite the fact we never see them do a single dark side or harmful thing. (and by 'we' I mean people who are giving in to those preconceived notions and holding to them despite the evidence rather than interrogating their assumptions)
Mae didn't kill a single civilian in the bar - she was ONLY going after Indara - whom she believed murdered her entire family. In any other property, someone getting justice by hunting down those who killed their family would be considered a protagonist who's murder is at least justified by the narrative. She even sat down and talked with Torbin and he killed himself - no mind tricks necessary, just him facing his own guilt - so Mae has some truth to her belief the Jedi did something wrong on Brendok. People keep pointing to 'she wanted to kill Osha last episode!!' yet those were the words of an 8 year old terrified her family was being ripped apart AND very clearly from Osha's POV which I have a feeling was skewed. If her whole deal was she didn't want Osha taken away from her, why in the world would a grown ass Mae now want to kill her sister she's just found out is alive and there's the chance they can be together again?
I think our preconceived notion is that anyone on the 'darker' side of the force will only have their emotions lead them to doing bad things rather than good, but love can lead people back to the light and away from the darkness too (hello Darth Vader). I just think it's great that the show is really just handing us situations and not really making it clear 'these good guys - root for them no matter what; those bad guys - they're bad no matter what' but rather just saying 'yup - these are things that are happening. Messy, huh? Let's see what they do about it'

The statement Ki-Adi-Mundi makes in TPM is still canonically intact. All he sees in the holo video is a weaponless (well, maybe daggers) Force user fighting Sol (and maybe Indara). Nowhere in the recordings we see KAM see, is there a red light saber wielding Sith. Vernestra even mentions that it must have been a Jedi that trained Mae (though maybe that actually is foreshadowing the possibility that the Sith master is masquerading as a Jedi?).
If the Jedi don't make it back, the statement is still intact. If there are Jedi that survive Khofar, maybe they pivot to burying this event under the rug b/c they're afraid of the political fallout? Something they've spoken of multiple times before. Guess we'll find out.

So he’s either lying to cover up his and other Jedis’ mistakes and is willing to cover it up even at the expense of Quigon, Obiwan, Anakin, and Padme’s lives or he’s genuinely clueless about the presence of the Sith by the time Maul rolls around. So hes a selfish person who doesn’t care about the lives of others or he’s just an idiot. It’s tough to think that a Jedi council member could be so aggressively idiotic.

So Mundi essentially took information that almost a dozen Jedi died to this dark side user and did not think to warn Quigon or the council about a very dangerous dark side user. Why would he just assume that all of a sudden the person was trained by a Sith who have been extinct for 900 years? It could be anything. By the way, the writers wanted to use YODA instead of Mundi in the show, but Dave Filoni said No. Dave saved Yoda's entire character integrity with that one. But here's my ultimate gripe with the show...it seems like the show is trying to bend Star Wars to fit their story, instead doing the research and creating a story to reinforce the tone set by future SW events (Ex: Tales of the Jedi). This just feel likes the "Secret Invasion" show all over again, where in that show they created this OP character that really shouldnt exist. My point is that the nuisance of good writing is to blend things into a story seamlessly. This show is failing to do that so far. But there's still 4 eps right??

    @HeroesReforged,
7:33 I agree with what Adam is seeing about Ki-Adi-Mundi, but we need to keep in mind that the head of the security council, Vernestra heavily implied that they are facing a rogue Jedi. We can see that she's trying to keep this development under cover and known to this small few. Sure, Ki-Adi-Mundi and another Jedi looked towards Sol and Vernestra when she questioned him about the past, but we can safely assume that what will transpire moving forward will resolve in a way that won't require the Jedi Council or Jedi to assume that a Sith was ever involved.
What does a Sith look like? The Jedi don't know. How do we know that? Jecki response, "What's that?" as well as that of the other Jedi with her. The Sith aren't the only Dark Side users of the Force in Star Wars and we've known that for a long time. Witchcraft in Star Wars has always been a Dark Side of the Force power, which explains why Darth Sidious and Darth Tyranus kept going back to Dathomir for apprentices, as Dark Side of the Force users don't need conversion.
Witches aside, Palpatine has always had a warlock look to him. His decrepit body, bony fingers, yellow eyes, dark robes, and walking stick scream warlock! Palpatine even shoots Force-Lightning from his fingertips like a witch casts spells. Surely, Feloni showing Palpatine standing before what looks like a witch's cauldron when he found Ezra in the World Between Worlds wasn't an accident. The Sith and the Witchcraft are aligned in the Force, and last week's episode drove that point home when Mother Aniseya described her coven's witchcraft with the exact same words Palpatine used in Revenge of the Sith when he explained the Dark Side of the Force to Anakin during the opera, "Dark" and "Unnatural." Heck, another parallel was drawn when the story eluded to Osha and Mae's birth happening the same way Anakin's did!
The Force is heavily regulated by the Jedi and the Galactic Republic. The Jedi deem what's legal use of it and what isn't. I assume that the witches were being persecuted and hunted because their use of the Force went against regulations. The Sith aren't the only Dark Side users. Witches and Sith are aligned in their philosophies of the Force. With books of the Force behind lock and key behind the protected walls of the Jedi temple, it makes sense that the Sith and witches would trade/share knowledge. With everyone else against them, it makes sense that they would rely on one another from time to time.
Did Mother Koril fear the Jedi on Brendok or did she fear the Sith Lord there finding out that they were talking with a Jedi?
13:46 regardless of how this scene plays out. Mae solved her problem. How do you kill a Jedi without using a weapon? Manipulation! Get someone else to do it for you. We learned last episode that if Mae and Qimir's master found out that Mae got help killing Torbin that things would end well for both of them. How would things go for Qimir after explaining to their master that Mae dipped? It is in his best interest to kill Kelnacca and get Mae back on the up and up for the both of them.
14:04 Why? She lived a life believing the Jedi were responsible for her sister's death. She found out that the Jedi were truthful and that her sister was alive last episode. Everything that she believed to be true, her motivations, were turned on their head. why move forward with a plan that no longer holds meaning? She wanted revenge for her sister's death. That doesn't work if Osha is alive.
    That cliffhanger though, lol.

The one where we meet Mae and Osha, the one where we recover Osha, the flashback to Osha and Mae's childhood...the episodes are pretty distinct in my mind. I'm guessing Qimir is actually the titular Acolyte of the show. He was tasked with sowing discord within the Jedi and he is using Mae to do it. That would explain why his garb is not up to the normal Sith standard and could be written off by the Jedi as not a real Sith so as not to screw with the what Master Mundi says in Episode 1.

My theory is that, much like the Jedi were drawn to the specialness/strength of the twins, Osha and Mae, I wonder if the Sith was drawn to Osha and Mae, too. Then, took advantage of the chaos the night of the fire, maybe even responsible for the fire or the level of destruction given what we see. And I'm pretty convinced that it was the Sith that dispatched all the sisters and villagers given the power of their collective since we don't see any of them burned so death by fire seems unlikely. And if Mae didn't see the Sith, she'd naturally blame the Jedi.
As for the likely identity of the Sith master? The two obvious candidates seem to be Qimir and Koril. With Koril, we already know she harbored animosity towards the Jedi and we don't ever see her body in the wreckage that night and she seems to be a powerful Force user on her own. With Qimir, we've seen the master who sit right under the nose of their apprentice (or soon to be) before, not to mention we saw him easily fend off Mae in ep 2. He also begs the Jedi not to mind probe him when he's caught which would give away his real identity.
Kelnaca appears to have been killed by the Sith and w/o resistance which makes me think it's one of two things. He knew the identity of the Sith and was comfortable around them. That seems to exclude Qimir and maybe even Koril. Could it be one of the Jedi? On the other hand, could the food he ate have been poisoned so that he could be incapacitated and then dispatched easily? Who do we know that deals in poisons?
I have another option that seems a bit far fetched. Koril and Qimir are the master and acolyte; either could be the master and the other the acolyte. This whole time, we've been thinking that Mae is the acolyte, but Qimir also mentions that the master collects people and Mae may just be one of them. And this whole time, we've also been assuming that Darth Why-So-Serious, grinning helmet guy is the Sith master... What if he's the Sith apprentice/acolyte? And we haven't seen the master yet.
    Just some thoughts.

great theory! as u said , im sure there was more sith related events happening in Brendok... I was thinking the show would be borrowing the story depicted in The old republic comic series with Zayne Carrick . The sith were at brendok with the witches. They helped with the virgin birth scenario to breed warriors or some dyad with the force. This was sensed by the jedi who were sent there to investigate.. finding the witches there, they prolly assumed they were the source of the disturbance in the force. Mayb they decided to wipe the witches' off ( that is where the comic similarity ends )but upon seeing the kids, they decided to take them away first. With Osha already leaving, The jedis then infiltrated the castle to kill off the witches but the sith triggered the explosion. Mayb the three other jedis were fighting off the witches while Sol was looking for osha. Hence why Torbin was in guilt as he assumed his act off killing of the witches made things worse as he was just following orders. The sith then saved Mae and brainwashed her to show the destruction made by the jedi. The reason i speculate this is coz 1. Koril heard a sound over the reactor and went to check, had she been a sith or conspiring with them, it wouldnt be surprising... 2. the sith were taking revenge for killing of the witches/ mayb for seperating the dyad.. 3. Clearly qmir is the apprentice .. and the master is someone who could manipulate the midichlorians to create ..life... hahahaha

  • @andareon

So, I don't think Mae 180 is too sudden. She was probably led by the hate of the jedi not only for "allegedly" killing the witches, but also she thought Osha was dead and she surely blamed the jedi for it (as I see it, since Osha wanted to join the jedi so bad and she probably assumed It all tied together, which will probably learn soon, I hope) and when she saw that indeed her sister is alive, she started thinking. She's afraid of the "master" but she sees that if her sister is alive and the jedi have her, what best than try and go talk to your sister and since she already killed jedi, she knows her best chance is to surrender as soon as possible. I don't know, that made sense to me.
Maybe the scenes could have hinted a bit more to it before the trap scene, but she was already hinting that if she doesn't do it, the master will kill her and so on.
I think the editing might be for something, but It didn't really shock me because in my head, now, she has her sister (and she probably felt her or smth, like Luke and Leia).
I enjoy this show. Not the best for sure, but I join you guys on the fact that I don't want people to dislike star wars based on an "average" show in all the media you can consume with Star Wars nowadays. Some is going to be great (Andor), some is going to be full nostalgia drip (Ahsoka) and some will be not so great (book of Bobba Fett). Imean, the original one has the nostalgia for it, but in terms of dialogs, plot, cinematography, actor directing, "A new Hope" is really not so great (and don't get me wrong I love it to death and saw it like 20 times).

I respect the writer's choices to serve the story by only having fight scenes where they matter; by killing the wookie Jedi to throw our expectations up in the air and establish a bigger, more unpredictable threat; by killing Carrie-Ann's character to establish stakes. Completely agree with you about how the cut these episodes. I do feel like they do write these as a long movie and just say cut here, cut here, cut here. It annoyed me in this episode, because like Adam I wanted that pay off to the tension that was building up. It was like we got to the climax of the moment and then it dissipated and it was annoying. That being said, I enjoyed the episode and Im enjoying Acolyte. Also completely agree with needing beefier episodes. I wish they would just have 45 minutes and fill those 45 minutes with content. I think it could help with some of the pacing issues. And they need to stop establishing time. Mae mentioned they only had 3 hours til night but Sol and team come much later and they meet at Kelnacca's hut.

Everyone was so hpyed for and disappointed by the lack of time with the Jedi Wookie. For those feeling like they missed out, go look up Kirlocca from the Living Force campaign. It was a TTRPG campaign that ran alongside the prequel series. It had a secondary Jedi Academy (to justify how many players would want to play Jedi...) that had a wookie Jedi (Kirlocca) as the primary lightsaber trainer. As a campaign that ran for years and we got to see into the academy for several adventures we got to feel like we knew him. It was great. Maybe I'm just old and living on member-berries, but I think it was good enough for people to look up and don't let it die.
As for series vs movies, series work when each episode can work as a stand alone, with elements that carry from one to the next. Each episode of X-Men '97 (barring Lifedeath) was a complete story, but that had elements that continued. I don't think this episode had a complete beginning, middle, and end of a story, and was just filler time that would add to the larger movie, but doesn't stand alone well enough. My $0.02.

In regards to Ki-Adi-Mundi and his Sith comment in TPM, what if hes actually a part of a Jedi conspiracy to cover-up the return of the Sith? I mean there have been a couple instances now where Vernestra is trying to keep a lid on whatever is going on with the death of the Jedi Masters. Imagine the population of the galaxy getting wind of a couple jedi butchering people for their use of the force. It tracks IMO.

It's a new story in the Star Wars galaxy. I let it be itself, and I'm entertained. Dassit!

What I find really funny about all the hating and "oh no they are changing to Lore", I'm 57 I was there in '77 (UK) when Star Wars first came out and when the Prequals came out, we all went "oh no they are changing to Lore, Anakin is meant to be evil". Yet those who grew up with the Prequals accept Anakin more readily...... Now the "Lore" seems to be shifting again and newer fans are upset. This is what Stars Wars does, suck it up

Its not a quick 180 when your whole young adult life you were told your sister was dead, killed by jedi, and then you see her with your own eyes...context much

What if Qimir is the one killing jedi without using weapons, i mean, idk.

She has misinterpreted her task. It is to kill a jedi, that doesn't have a weapon. A jedi that is defenseless, that can't fight back. How she does it, is irrelevant.

The end of the Episode , 1 vs the Many, So yeah I feel this could be Mother Koril and she has no love for Osha hence force pushing her away, although I would have thought she would have killed her with the saber if it was, Unless it's Mother Aniseya and she faked death, she created the twins, it wasn't said how so maybe she can stop people from dying in this case herself, in some down the road Darth Plagueis type of deal.

If the Master turns out to be Darth Plagueis AND Qimir, I'd kinda like it

You have to understand the Acolyte is not Mae. The Acolyte is the Dark helmeted cloaked figure. Just so that you understand we have not seen the Master.

What is the difference from a dark Jedi and a Sith?
