Today we will be studying Item SCP-054: Water Nymph, Object class: Safe.
Note: Experiments with SCP-054 were halted following [DATA EXPUNGED] two researchers injured. After this incident containment protocols were updated. Subject thereafter exhibited signs of mistrust and aggression around male personnel. Subject reclassified Euclid.
Out of the water, the subject most often appears as a female humanoid with a mean volume of 90 liters comprised entirely of water. When it enters a body of water, it becomes indistinguishable from its surroundings. The subject must periodically return to a body of water in order to maintain its volume due to evaporation.

Maybe it could give SCP-3359 tips there. However I've learned he likes sucking the blood out of humans rather than water after he gave this amazing answer when asked. "Well you can go eat dirt. Why don't you?. Then come tell me why you don't do it". Not an exact quote his was full of F bombs but youtube has a strange policy regarding dropping F bombs in comment sections so you'll have to use your imagination there.
Ya know, I understand why not all SCP's are asked for consent before experimenting, like SCP-682, due to their natural aggression towards humans. However, this case seems... questionable. SCP-054 seemed quite cooperative at first, enjoying the company of researchers and staff. However, the Foundation seemed to start experimenting on her without consent. It is unsurprising that such events would lead to increased aggression. The Foundation may be fictional, but I would hope that future researchers would be more respectful to her sentience and try less extreme tests with her cooperation in order to find out more about her!

Yea, it was written before Ethics Comitet came to life. But even then, there was few raports, when Foundation was suprisingly cruel without any logical reason

I think that's the tragedy. Men hurt her and saw her as a toy. The SCP foundation is made of normal people, and sometimes those people are awful.
@@macshadow1150 I think this highlights the reason why Ethics exists. The Foundation is not a ruthless body content to sacrifice its own humanity in an effort to blindly follow and achieve its goals by any means necessary. There is a line it cannot and should never cross, no matter the consequences. It's what makes the Ourobouros Cycle so compelling. The Overseers, be they monsters or not, understand that above all else the Foundation itself needs to be contained. The Overseers do what they can from the high macroscopic level, the Ethics committee gets involved on the microscopic so beings like 054 aren't hurt anymore.

Yeah, I'd help out in that plot too. This harmless SCP went from being friendly (probably part of why it got captured) to fearful. This creature would be better classified as an undine of sorts than a nymph, though.

Just humanoid elements.

That’s one of the reason it’s classified as horror.
This is a series 1 so things like the ethics committee or even the “cold, not cruel” code was not a thing then.

So I’m scrolling down the comments and see a lot of the same things. To those people, keep in mind this is a series 1 SCP. Before the ethics committee existed or the “cold, not cruel” code was made. Honestly, compared to humanoid SCP’s now, this one definitely needs a rewrite because Foundation don’t do senseless torture now.
But rewriting wouldn’t change the past of what happened to the SCP before the ethics committee existed. So why rewrite the whole story to cover it up and change everything? What happened, happened.
@@ThatLadBobby An addendum would fix it without rewriting it. Something like the ethics committee tracing down the specific reason the water nymph distrusts only the male researchers even though there are female researchers during the torturous acts as well. The committee could be shown taking the appropriate punitive steps to give us a story with better closure.

The creature is considered safe when it is easy to contain. Basically all they have to is technically keep it in cryogenic stasis without the need for adding chemicals , as the subject needs nothing other then pure water.
She doesn't seem like a danger. They ought to set her free.
With the SCP foundation cruel experiments, I wouldn't be surprised that she doesn't trust and hates humans... The ethics committee is so useless to be okay with the way she's mistreated

I know the Foundation are A-holes (especialy early one, where things like amnestics and reality anchors weren't a thing ) but they are doing better in later filed, like that alien who they provide food and shelter. GOC would killd it on sight.

In the end, they do say after 4 years of working with her, she was placed back as "Safe". Even tho stupid, the Foundation did learn their lesson here.

I feel sorry for this SCP. It seemed like if already was safe with how playfully it mimicked the maintenance crew and only became aggressive when the foundation literally started to torture it.
Seriously, its easily smart enough to at least communicate with it and get a level of consent for the experiments by offering whatever it views as rewards.

In Nigeria, and as well as west central and Southern Africa, we have a name for water spirits, especially female depicted water spirits, it's called MAMI WATA or Mami Water. As a kid I've been told they're either wet, like drenched in rainwater, water-shiny-skinned women or water in the shape of women usually associated to a river or water body nearby. And yes they are usually naked or seem to be for obvious reasons. Didn't know the scp foundation had captured one. 😂 😅

@@jeweltara thankfully the ethics committee prevent the foundation research staff from doing something insane (i.e Dr. Bright), treating the scp fairly well and allow Humane research on the scp without hurting them

Let me explain, the ethics committee did exist in the early days of the wiki but back then they were more of a joke but later were being taken more seriously
