Most excellent video Elliot, Wonder Boy III was ahuge part of my childhood, so a lot of memories for me here too!!! Oh, Pro Tip: If you flick between modern and retro graphics over and over fast enough, it gets stuck between the two and you can see both at the same time!
I find this series pretty confusing in terms of titles. Like, we have like 3 games called Wonder Boy that aren't numbered, then there's two Wonder Boy IIIs, and then after that there's Monster World IV. Like, what?
I watched a 20 minute video on the title order and it still wasn't perfect. To make it even more confusing all Adventure Island was originally a Wonderyboy game and later on there is a Wonderboy game with the subtext "Adventure Island." Yeah "Wonderboy: Adventure Island." Somehow the Monster World side series of Wonderboy sneaks in and get numbered separately in terms of which "Monster World" title it was while ALSO retaining the number for which "Wonderboy" game it is. Hence we end up with "Wonderboy 5: Monster World 3." Wtf man. W.t.f
Completing this game as a kid eluded me. Thanks to remake I finally managed it! Then . . . a year later we got Monster Boy! Good shit, and the dude's who did Dragon's Trap remake are doing Streets of Rage 4!
I've never really been into the Wonder Boy series but this remake was SUCH an amazing experience. The music, the artstyle and the overall faithfulness to the original while adding fresh new features really speak volumes of the love and effort put into making it. I haven't played it in months but I'm definitely willing to pick it up again one day!
The remake is such a fantastic visual upgrade. Any game that has the stones to do fully hand animated sprites is almost certainly a hit. Reminds me of Wario Land: Shake It!/The Shake Dimension. I hope to see more games of the sort in the future. Also that Mecha Dragon at the beginning is straight up just Gigan from Godzilla.
The Dragon's Trap is probably my favorite SMS game, even in front of Phantasy Star. It had great open-ended gameplay, great graphics, and the way it progressed the series was really something special. Thanks for reviewing this one!
I loved this game as a kid despite being terrible at it and this remake was just so much fun to play through. It makes me really want a remake of my absolute favourite Master System game, Dragon Crystal.
4:05... oof. I'm reminded of Shadow of the Beast with that first issue. Also 7:47. Represent, Tasmania! Oh dang I just realised they actually DID change the title to WonderGirl in game. Look away and you'll miss it, I honestly just thought it was just a narrative thing you threw in BUT IT'S THERE!
I love this game! I haven’t played for too long, only an hour or two, using my brother’s copy, but I really enjoyed it. However I din’t really like the remake graphics, not because they are bad, they aren’t, but because I really like the pixel art style and prefer it to the rather cartoonish, hand-drawn style. I kept the game in pixel mode for the entire time I was playing for. I’ll definitely be buying the remake for myself someday.
Ooh, I love this game. I ended up winning a physical copy from the devs themselves that came with a Dragon Form keychain and couldn't believe my luck. The one thing I'll say I hated was a cloudy section with the mouse. To be fair, the Pro Controller's d-pad messed me up so it's no fault of the game.
I played Wonder boy on GG, Monsterland on MS, World on Megadrive, and WB3 on megadrive since my childhood, I didn't know Dragon's Trap existed till 2013 when I saw youtube comments on the wonder boy sega vintage collection saying "Where's Wonder boy 3 the dragon's trap?" and I was like "Huh what? there can't be two wonder boy 3s..." I instantly youtube searched that game and HOLY FUCK I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS GAME! Instantly went to the Wii's Shop Channel and downloaded this game and I was playing this for weeks non stop. Also just months or a year later I saw a trailer of the remake in production and my brain was blown here, like how did this game go unnoticed to me? Even my long time best friend wasn't aware of this game and soon as he came to my house he would hog my wii just to play this fucking game XD lmfao it's crazy but me and my BFF here love sega games back in the day. I'm glad that I bought the Dragon's Trap remake about 3 times, once on steam for myself, then physical on switch, and I gifted a steam version to my boy friend as a birthday gift and he plays alot of triple A games which aren't my kind of thing but when I introduced him to this remake, he became more of an indie gamer than a Triple A gamer. I think I'll buy another copy of this game for one of my friends because more people should play this game. Maybe my sister if she can get time to play video games again because she introduced me to WB in monster world which is my 2nd favourite game of all time (first place is super metroid because Samus is so much fun). Love this franchise, oh god what a time to be alive just seeing this series again and get ported and so many remakes to modern systems with some improvements to make the game even more fun and a new game called Monster Boy and the cursed kingdom.
I remember watching your LP of this game back when you did it. I've been watching all your stuff, since i subscribed just before Toilet in Wonderland. I wouldn't know about Undertale if not for you. Although i watch almost everything; i tend to skip the Sonic stuff, unless it's a new game, cos seeing Green Hill for the 27th time gets dull. The Thomas hack is still my favourite.
That feel when my new phone has the best camera I've used on PM to date.
Gonna find a better way to prop it up though haha.

The Character/Creature Design in this game is sooo adorable in this game
I wish more games had art styles as impressive as this! The characters are amazingly detailed, and the backgrounds are just gorgeous.

You deserve way more subscribers
Yooooo, love the nefarious music in the beginning 👌
Jesus a Pixelated Memories video? What *YEAR* is it?
I gotta thank youtubers like you, who help me find interesting games to play/stream. This ones getting added to the list, so thanks dude.
Great video I love when you do obscure video games from your childhood 👍👍
This game isn't obscure.

I loved this game so much I bought Monster Boy and some of the older titles. 100% on WB3 and Monster Boy so far. Wonder Boy 4 looks like a ton of fun

Wish I had a Master System as a kid. Not as common over here.
PM looks good in 1080P 60FPS
Wonderboy in monsterland > Wonderboy in monsterworld.
Depends on what you like I guess

What about Vectorman? Have you heard of it? Is a clasic too... Well if for the sega x32 so... I'm not surprised
Never played it growing up but I have played just a little on some collection CD's n' such!
I realize this is years late, but Vectorman is on the standard Mega Drive/Genesis, not the 32X
8:15 wut da fuq did u just waq thru a wall
