How do you keep it clean when temps are below freezing for weeks at a time? (I don't have a convenient indoor place to have water running for this either.) Do you just scrape?
Great questions! I definitely just scrape it. You just don't want the fumes making the chickens sick with respiratory infections or parasites taking over because there is too much feces. Parasites are not really an issue in the feces when it's completely frozen though. When its really frozen, scraping it works and then taking a warm bucket of water to dump on it helps to get anything that is stuck. Then I can scrape a little bit more and then take paper towels to just wipe off the last little bit. I hope this helps.🥰
It does not have a light inside. I added a nightlight one time that just sticks to the inside and it had batteries. I just did that for my easter eggers for a couple of nights when they were young and going into the coop for the first time because they were raised indoors, but honestly I did not do that for any other chickens and have never felt the need for a light. They have an automatic door that can be added to the coops. I have one of those and if you want you can add the coop light for 30 bucks that goes with the auto door as an accessory.
