I always laugh when I watch McLintock and I always cry when I watch The Green Beret. I feel pride everytime I watch Sands of Iwo Jima and nice warm tingling sensation at the Quiet Man. Damn I wish I could have been able to watch any one of these movies when they were first released on the big screen. But I'll have to settle for restored videos at home and I'll be proud to share them with the next generation.
@XOnlyAliveForMCRX - No he did not die on May 26. That was the date for 100 years of the Duke. He was born on May 26, 1907 and passed away June 11, 1979.
@hellokittynurse - I guess I don't understand your criticism. I think the world of John Wayne (Marion Morrison). I wish America has more men like him. I miss the heck out of him. Maybe you can better explain what you mean. I don't understand.
HE was a real man, at least his image was an ideal to try to achieve for men of those days. We need some more good examples of good Americans, but they're not all going to look like John Wayne. They might not all be men, or even have been born men. But we need them all and we need them now. America needs its protectors especially now when its so much easier to knock this country while hiding behind a keyboard. God bless America.
Thank you. I've always felt that way though. After all, it's how America got it's start. People opressed seeking sanctuary and freedom from an overreaching government and friends and neighbors banding together to help fight the injustices of it all. That's wht I think about when I think of the American spirit and people looking to carve out a life for themselves no matter their race creed or sexual orientation whenever I think of the American Dream. It saddens me that people are denied
John "Duke" Wayne Rank: Chickenhawk First Class with Distinguished Fleeing Cross Date-Of-Birth: May 26, 1907 Home State: California Missed Opportunity: World War Two Excuse: Too busy reeling in the cash Preferred Activity: Fighting with extras on the set Occupation: Propagandist The Duke was a snarling, tough bad man on the set, but didn't have the stones to fight in "WW II, The Big One." Among American troops in Vietnam, calling someone "John Wayne" was an insult.
Have Gun WIll Travel and Branded (once we got satelite and certain dvd collections). All these shows and more remind me of the reason why we need to do all we can for our friends neighbors and families. America is stuck in a rut from which there seems to be no end. There will be no end either until we stop bickering among ourselves about what rights some should have over others and start facing true equality and strengthen our economy again. Back the US dollar for a change!
I know I already commented on this video before, but I have to say a few things. My dad, being an over the road trucker/cattle hauler, wasn't really around much. In a business like that he had to stay on the road to make money. But, that's part of the sacrifices of life people must make to ensure their families are taken care of. But whenever he was home, I always enjoyed sitting down with him and watching John wayne movies or shows like Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Wagon Train, The Rifleman,
America does need more men like him. Men who wear their pants at the hip, not the crotch, no piercings in wierd places. Men who can roll up their sleaves and do a days work without whining about it, and be grateful he's got the work. Men who know right from wrong and act on it. Just good old fashioned honest men who aren't out to do in the other guy. With just enough humility not to beat his chest for doing the right thing.
Are you just trying to pick an argument here or do you really believe that? Yes John Wayne was indeed a Republican, he even spoke at the 1972 Republican National Convention. He endorsed Reagan twice for governor of California even going so far as to make a campaign commercial for him. The only time and I mean the only time Wayne disagreed with Reagan was over the Panama Canal issue in the late 70's. Look it up.
The only reason you have any beef with Wayne is because he was a conservative. You probably never voted for Ronald Reagan either and feel the same way toward him. Wayne was a movie star, and a good one. If there were contradictions in his life, then so what? He wasn't running for political office. He just made good movies that are still enjoyed. Celebrities today have outspoken political views and contradictions. They make millions through capitalism and yet cry for socialism.
Thank you, but it is NOT opinion -- It is fact that Pilar, his wife, said these things, that John Ford, his mentor and best friend, never forgave him for ducking out of the war, etc, etc. Look it up. The man was no super hero. He was human. People think I'm not a "patriot" because I say these things about Wayne, like he's the God of America. My dad served was shot in WWII. He landed at Normandy. He told me of seeing boatloads of men explode. THOSE WERE HEROES. NOT WAYNE.
And I appreciate that, thank you, If we all thought the same way- what good would that do? appreciate your input, dont agree with it but, appreciate it; and who knows you might be right, but I heard john wayne had an ear problem that kept him out of the military, so he did the next best thing- gave our troups hope by playing a hero. and at my age I can still remember back when, anyway thanks for watching your language old ladies dont like to hear that
Oh, pleeeze. You prefer to believe a lie? It's like a cult here. "No truth, only what we want to believe." Wayne was a monumental hypocrite and an insult to REAL HEROES. His OWN WIFE said explicitly that he played the "super patriot" to make up for his failings during WW II. Among servicement of the time Wayne was a no good punk. He preferred tuxedo's to chaps, indoors to outdoors. The "tough guy" image was just that: an "image." There. I watched my language for YOU, Joy.
John Wayne wouldn want such a large tribute for him. He would want us to pay honor to the real hero's of America. The troops. Be it dead or alive bless them.God bless him for what he stood for but truly bless the ones who fought for us. That is what the duke would want.
nO SWEETY DIDNT MEAN IT IN THAT WAY, NOW i REALIZE ALOT OF THESE COMMENTS ARE MISSREAD, Im no bigot or racist, I pointed that out because it was the most well known fact that John Wayne wasnt a bigot and racist, Sorry if I offended you, but think about what you read, You sound like you may have a chip your daring someone to knock off, be good- I love good people!
In my opinion the reason why liberals hate him is because he could not be sold out to the highest bidder, I mean nowadays an actor can be paid to endorse a campaign. F.D.R. told him that he did not have to join and he knew the situation better than any of us so I think we should let history be left in the past and work on our future to make the U.S. a better place to live.
This was wonderful. John Wayne was the frst actor I ever became aware of, and he's one of my favorites even now. This was a marvelous tribute to John Wayne. The only thing I regret is that it has taken me this long to come across it. Happy Thoughts, ~ R.C.
26 May today Happy Birthday John Wayne. I look up "today is famous" for my GoodReads profile. On my blogspot reviewed TCM Cowboy Legends DVD 5*. Gorgeous photos of nature professionally depicted, perfectly matched to his speech "Why I love her". Beautiful video.
not only fiting for the duke, he represented America, he showed how the best of the Americans really were, we all just didnt have the opportunity to go public like he did, bless john wayne ,and no he wasnt racist, pilar was from mexico, so stop dumping on our heros!
I wasn't questioning his movies...just the man. He was a typical Republican. Encourage wars..support wars, but then stay on the sidelines and send others to do the dirty work. I always admired Bob Hope. He at least went into war zones. Wayne stayed home hiding under his bed
Duke made his share of mistakes in his life, just like the rest of us. I'm sure he must have had regrets along these lines. So I don't try to judge the man but I just really enjoy his movies! He certainly loved his country, i'm sure of that!
I have to appologize, I was using my sons name, Katey1dog, he has reminded me to check my log in name, I'm Violet2048, And John Wayne is the pinacle of a patriot, and I truely believe with a little work at home, we can bring back this kind of patriotism.
People that disparage John Wayne are like my useless "Bro in law". A disgruntled professor that blames everyone else for his own sorry choices in life. Look out for them when they are off their Prozac. Libs need it to handle reality.
Thank you so much for this tribute to John Wayne. What a wonderful clip. I have taken the liberty to send it to all my contacts as a backdrop to the upcoming election. May God send us another man as quintessentially American as John Wayne.
thanks and yes it is, but it will happen and they will call upon people like me to protect thier lame asses and by god they better hope I do, but at this rate at this moment I wont.
@floridafyme Totally. He seems to be one of those actors people enjoy watching and yet somehow stays off the radar for a while until you see him in a movie like Red River or Rio Bravo or in a series like The Real McCoy.
Hang in there sweety, I know its true, old ladys remember, I was there back then,J.Wayne had an inner ear problem that kept him out, So thank God he did the next best thing, Got my 2 brothers back home safe from # 2,
Does anyone else remember an exhibit at Disneyland in Anaheim where they had a crosscountry view of America in a 360 degree screen? I sure liked that and they played it to America The Beautiful. That was my favorite exhibit.
John Wayne was America ... he was the best actor! He must be ashamed of all the Lawsuits, bitching, and whining from the Citizens of America ... people have forgotten to be strong like he was ...
If only we had the duke still with us. we need more people like him, who truely loved America. He is the first person that comes to mind when I think of the word patriotism. We miss you John Wayne.
I'm a Canadian but the way John Wayne speaks of America in this tribute ,makes one not American want to be an American! God bless Canada and I must say also, God bless America!
Remember how they used to play 2 movies and a cartoon at the theatres? Well this is what they should play before every movie,in every theatre, all across our beautiful country.
Bono isn't an American, although he is a good hearted man.John Wayne is an American icon. They don't come more red, white and blue then Mr. Wayne was.He died of lung cancer from smokin'.
No, it's a tribute to one of the greatest movie stars who still makes the top ten harris poll of favorite movie stars every year despite being dead for 30 years.
Watch "The Green Berets". I believe Wayne's last line was "you're what this war is all about". Spoken to some kid!! Talk about propaganda and supporting a useless war...which we lost by the way. I rest my case.
I love this video, everytime I play it I get goosebumps and it's not just the Duke's voice, but the words to the music of America The Beautiful.
He was the real deal. A real man. His movies hold up well today.
YES!!!! we should all be as patriotic!!!
I always laugh when I watch McLintock and I always cry when I watch The Green Beret. I feel pride everytime I watch Sands of Iwo Jima and nice warm tingling sensation at the Quiet Man.

thank you god for john wayne thank you
Love the man.
Beautifuly said.
FANTASTIC JOB
Thank You. Just a wonderful job.
Very impressive work - thanks for sharing

He's my favorite too. He's like the Dad everyone wished they could have picked. Some one you could count on for good advice and to emulate.
@hellokittynurse - I guess I don't understand your criticism. I think the world of John Wayne (Marion Morrison). I wish America has more men like him. I miss the heck out of him. Maybe you can better explain what you mean. I don't understand.
Where have all the men with conviction and beliefs gone? We just do not have men like John Wayne anymore and that's very sad for America.
Isn't it sad you have to "go back in time" to find the Real America. Sure wish we could have her back.
I love this video, thank you! 5 stars.
I couldn't agree more! We are losing what America stands for.

according to my 2 brothers that were in ww2 Wayne gave them hope, so they figured he was part of them, and do you treat all humans this way? hope not,
Oooh, must have hit a nerve there. Obviously there must have been some truth in my statement. Your profanity really hammers your point very well.
R.I.P John Wayne the true American Hero Q i have to choose between John Wayne And Bono from U2 as my Roll Model fr a School Project Witch 1
Fantastic Tribute. A Great Man, A Great American. I'm now (belately) gonna knock back a shot of Tequila in his Honor. Happy Birthday Duke.
Nothing like the sound of John Wayne's voice to stir up some patriotic feelings! Thanks for posting this and for making me have a good cry!
Im very impressed with this video, its a fitting tribute to the Duke, thanks for making it! God Bless The Duke, and God Bless America
I am not american but I agree with these comments!
Guys, just be aware, "political correctness" is corrupting your way of life.
Always loved John Wayne. He loved our country and people. He and the flag are one. God bless all men of good will. Gramps.
This world and this country will never be the same without him. There will never be another John Wayne.
One of the greatest American's to ever live . God Bless Duke Wayne and the US of A . His kind is sorely missed .
John Wayne was not a Republican. He was an Independent. He had huge issues with Ronald Reagan. Look it up.
A great job. It brought tears to my eyes. Thank you. We sure could use The Duke right now!!
Just Awesome! There will never be another John Wayne; the Duke was one of a kind; a true American Hero!
The mark of a great actor is that he is not the characters he portrays. John Wayne was a great actor.
It's tax time and I presume you were Mr. Hope's accountant? Could you do my return for me?
Thanks
