Vince Gill is the man. But, tearjerker? He wrote that song when his brother passed away. Also, look him up! He was an 80's Billboard baby. He was the single German for 'Let Me Love You Tonight' with Pure Prairie League! He also joined the Eagles when Glenn Frey passed. Had MANY MANY hits over the years. Very popular since late 80's and 90's. He's had 60 or 70 hits on the charts and 7 #1 hits. Great guy!!❤

Actually, that’s only partially correct. He also grew up in Columbus Ohio. His dad was on the bench in Columbus. He was a judge. His family lived next to my in-laws in Columbus, Ohio. I think he was born in Norman, Oklahoma if I remember correctly, and then they came to Ohio. Had to be because in 1994 I went before his dad in court, I was establishing child support. Anyway, that’s maybe too much information but but yes I do realize they were from Oklahoma. Wanted to make sure that everybody knew that actually really started out in Columbus Ohio. Before I rec some Vince Gill songs I want to recommend you listen to 4x Platinum artist Patty Loveless singing backup here. Her song "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" will slay you.
Vince Gill can play and sing anything. He's definitely a country guy, and while he was a big star in the 90s Country boom he is huge fan of the subgenres like Western Swing and the High Lonesome Sound so he has quite an eclectic songbook. He's known as much for his musicianship as his singing and songwriting. Lately he's been touring with The Eagles as a stand-in for the late Glenn Frey. Try "Liza Jane", "Take Your Memory With You", "Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away", and his iconic "Go Rest High on That Mountain".

Go Rest High On That Mountain is the best song by Vince in my opinion. He also sings a fun song called One More Last Chance - he spends too much time at the bar so the wife takes his car keys, but he says she forgot about his John Deer mower/tractor. On the same theme, Hank Williams Jr.’s song All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight has many celebs/singers in the video, one of which is George Jones who is shown driving the mower over to his house - probably a nod to his alcoholism.
Also check out Chisled In Stone by Verne Gosden, since you liked He Stopped Loving Her Today by George.
Check out Ricky Skaggs if you want to go down the Bluegrass rabbit hole. Happy watching!❤

Oklahoma has given us many musicians, Vince Gill among these. You need to watch the video of him performing the song Go Rest High On That Mountain at George Jones' memorial. They had a special relationship with George calling him Sweet Pea and Vince calling George Possum. It is hard to watch as Vince breaks down and Patty Loveless steps up to pull him through with the mourners led by Garth Brooks standing in support.

Also, for pure fun, check out him doing “It’s hard to kiss the lips at night that chewed your ass out all day long” by the Notorious Cherry Bombs (who are Vince Gill and Rodney Crowell as themselves and also in drag). Vince is a treasure.

I’ve seen Vince Gill live three times. He never disappoints! He has probably done more duets than anyone. This was Vince’s first big country hit after leaving Pure Prairie League. He’s now touring with The Eagles. He is also a top tier guitarist. Vince and Patty Loveless have some beautiful harmonies!

Vince Gill is one of the best showmen there is! I can honestly say he puts on the best concerts! I saw him in San Diego in 1994 at his peak in popularity, and he played with his band for about 90 minutes! Then he came back for an encore with just him and his guitars in a half circle around him and proceeded to play another 8-9 songs! He also replaced Glen Frey in the Eagles after his death along with Glen's son Deacon! This song also showed you, in my opinion, one of the greatest unofficial country duets ever! The lady in the background is Patty Loveless, and they have sang together in about a dozen songs together split between each others albums! Vince Gill said in an interview that he loves to sing with his wife; Pop and Christian superstar Amy Grant, but Patty is his favorite singing partner! With harmonies like this, though, who could blame him!

Everybody's going to recommend you watching him perform "Go Rest High on that Mountain" at George Jones' funeral, but I strongly suggest against that performance as being your first time hearing the song.
Your attention will be taken away from how beautiful the song is if you watch that one first. I don't want to spoil it, but it will make sense if you watch two different versions.
The George Jones funeral performance is great for other reasons. And I would highly recommend watching the upload of that where he tells a funny story about George Jones before performing.
They were close friends, and the legend George Jones had his own funny little nickname for Vince. He would call him "Sweat Pea".

He sang one of the best versions of the National Anthem that I’ve ever heard. It was at the Houston Fat Stock Show and Rodeo in the late 80’s or early 90’s. Just straight up put a knot in my throat! Probably even a tear or two.
Big fan of Vince. He has a LOT of hits.

I was a huge Vince Gill fan in the 1990s. Vince was one of the stars of country music in the 80s & 90s during what was known as a return to the more traditional sound of country. Vince can do it all: slow, sad ballads and fast rockers. He plays an amazing guitar as well, that he plays as if it's an extension of his singing voice.
I see everyone mentioning "Go Rest High On That Mountain", which is a beautiful and sad song, but I'd like to recommend some others.
There's "Look At Us" which a lovely song looking at a positive relationship. "Liza Jane" is a fast song and a lot of fun, as is "One More Last Chance".

Huge Vince Gill fan here, too, from the 90s. The man is a legend, and he writes a highly respected guitarist. He can sing em all fast and slow but there's no one like him to tug your heart strings in a ballad. His voice is so pure and sweet. Nobody answers when I call your name gets me but not because of a break up but thinking of going into a house like my sister or my parents when they passed away and that line just gets me. Look at us sums up my parents' marriage they nearly made it to 63 years. Dad passed, and Mum just 17 months later 'when they wanna see what true love should be they'll just look at us'. The very last song I played for my Dad who at almost 92 had just got Spotify was Together again. I saw Vince live truly amazing. 😢 CC

I used to have a nurse who was an acquaintance of Vince Gill’s and she said he had a hard time deciding whether to go with Bluegrass music or Country Music and he chose Country Music because it is more monetarily lucrative. He has helped out many other musicians who needed a hand up to make it big. He is married to Amy Grant who started out in Gospel music and is supposed to be a committed Christian singer still to this day and I hope that it is true. He has recorded several love songs for her and they are beautiful!

His career started as a member of the group "Pure Prairie League"... hits like "Aimee" and "Let Me Love You Tonight."
His solo career has been nothing short of fantastic.
Like many others have said, the song he wrote for his brother, (after his brother's passing,) and dedicated to Keith Whitley, after HIS passing... "Go Rest High On That Mountain," will break you. Guaranteed.... just knowing the meaning it has to him. There are 2 live performances.... one with Ricky Skaggs and Allison Krauss... and the one that breaks me, every time... performed with Patty Loveless, at the George Jones memorial, held at the Grand Ole Opry, after Jones' passing.

The first song I ever heard from Vince as a solo although he had been around with other groups (Pure Prairie League) for a while. This song is such a gut punch with his incredible voice, the harmonies from Patty Loveless, the steel guitar, the heartbreak. Has to be in the top tier of best country songs of all time.
And BTW - in addition to that voice, he is by far one of the best guitar musicians still playing.

Vince first found fame as part of Pure Prairie League which did pop songs. He sings gospel and country but also does fill in with the Eagles. He is a multi-facited musician. He plays guitar with the best of them also.
