Congratulations, this version is... 🎉 OFFICIALLY NOSTALGIC 🥳 Sorry everyone, I guess you can't say anything bad about the Harvey Weinstein version because it has fallen into this UA-camr's rosed tinted goggles called "NOSTALGIA!" A mysterious void where anything that was once seen as mediocrity becomes a bonafide masterpiece when anything new comes out. Now I know there's that one piece of media from that specific era we grew up with, but regardless what year, what show or media it came out in... THE MIRAMAX VERSION STILL SUCKS. 😅😂
The thing that makes the war machine destruction scene funnier is the fact that throughout the movie, the thief always thinks ahead and plans his heists, which always fail. However, when going after the golden balls, he just acts impulsively and doesn’t think twice. And it’s the one time when he succeeds.

Can we all agree that the "Fearless scout" actually Rid like 2 days on horseback to the golden city while having One Eye's flag pierced through his chest with his life slowly fading away but still had All that energy to make it there to warn the king till his last breath? That scout should be Honored for his bravery and sacrifice to warn the king while dying and Deeply Injured.
Thank you so much for sharing not only this, but also the Australian dub!! 😊 I grew up with this version, so it has a special place in my nostalgic-heart (The Thief always makes me laugh!). The Australian version was really cool to watch as I’d never seen it. And The Recobbled Cut I’d seen ages ago and it’s so gorgeous! I really, really wish we’d get a 35mm print released for people to see this. ❤ Such a gorgeous film.

When I first saw trailers and content regarding this production I just figured I would hate ZigZag and the Thief and be interested in the army, the main plot, and ofc rooting for Tack and YumYum... but now I'm sitting here, almost rooting for the Thief and obsessed with his humor and ZigZag's design and both of their voicing, and constantly nearly forgetting there's plot other than this brilliantly created (yet still creepy and frustrating) antagonist and the desperate, foolish, grabby, hilarious pickpotcket. "Oh yeah. This guy's tryna romance a young woman- one who's not only far younger than him, but who's heart fell for someone else. Right. There's supposed to be a massive army that'll cause problems on its way, and they're all doomed if this dork gets his grubby little hands on those balls. ...cough."
I'm honestly more mixed towards the Miramax edit myself. I watch it on one of those Echo Bridge multipacks for sh*ts and giggles, even though there's no denying it's not quite the masterpiece Rick Williams would have wanted it to be. As for the sound mixing, to my ears, the Princess cut is a bit more louder.
The cuts that were added, especially in the songs, are clearly noticeable, both in the character designs and in the animation frames, which are noticeably lower.
I’m honestly suprised how bad King Nods and Phidos voice actors are. It’s so bad it’s making me cringe. Jeez. Though surprisingly I like Jonathan Winters Performance. Personally, I think most of the other new voices either sound fine or are just mediocre.
I think this version is a little over-hated. obviously the original music, cast, scene positioning, animation and movie is way better and there was a lot more effort and love put into it but this isn't that bad in my opinion obviously whenever you think about how this isn't what Richard would have wanted it just rubs everyone the wrong way and that usually makes everyone hate it which happened to me i hated this version and i never watched it but after watching it i kinda like it but its not like this version isn't bad i feel like this is more of a guilty pleasure but i do agree that Richard should have been allowed to finish it his way.
Same with me. This film introduced me into the thief and the cobbler, and without it I wouldn’t be here. It’s obviously bad, but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Damn, the American version of "The Thief and the Cobbler" has references to Britain Leader during WW2, Aladdin and Disney, although Aladdin was released in 1992, and "The Thief and the Cobbler" in 1993 (although it was created in the 60s).
I have a theory that Tack and Princess Yum-Yum are Princes Jasmine's parents. Because at the end of the movie Tack becomes the new Sultan and we never got the Sultan's name or Jasmine's mother name, and I guess that why the Sultan allowed Jasmine to marry Aladdin because it reminded him of his relationship with Yum-Yum.

jeeeze. Ok. There is only 1 thing i liked better in this dub then in the origional. And yet they still screwed it up. Ill admit i like the endung with the thief tring to steal the orbs again, “And i love big distractions like royal weddings” ill admit thats a better ending for the theif ither than him just loosing interest and walking away. It reminds me of a “here we go again” senerio…To bad they added another 30 seconds of an epiloge descirbing how he got aressted and stuff, way to take away from the joke! (and yeah, the dub is no were near as good as the orgional, but in fairness, they did try to make good jokes with the theifs monolaug, some jokes were pretty funny and creative, like when he runs into his mom when crawing up the sewers, 15:54 that good. But yeah, it DOES rake away from the animators efforts to make a mute character expressive. The animators did not have the luxuary of having diolauge for this character to fill in the emotion, they had to animate whatever feeling he (and Tack for that matter) were expressing. The dub isnt the worst thing, but its a oretty big slap in the face to the animators you know?).
The reason for him loosing most likely is because one in the script it says he actually takes notice of all the death and destruction around him and puts two and two together that maybe this all happened because of those balls, it could also be flashbacks from the polo game that helps with his decision lol, Also at one point the movie was called The Thief Who Never Gave Up. I think you can see the obvious joke here
@@IamJustTheBiscuityOfTheSeaity oh my god I love that! I love the idea that the their remembered the polo game, and looked back at the golden balls like “…oh hell no not again!!!! Here u take them!!” 🤣🤣
Hi, i've been looking at your videos and edits for some time, it seems that you know this film well, so i have a couple of questions: How do you do your edits?, what programs or tools do you use? What are good sources for footage of the film? I'm mainly interested in original "pre-Calvert" animations and footage (because Calvert animations tend to be inconsistent and more "TV cartoon" quality), or stuff that resembles pencil tests and storyboards? Anyways, i've seen your edit fo the remastered workprint, it sure is nice, hope you can answer, nice day. :)
I use Adobe Premiere Elements 9 for 'The Thief and the Cobbler' videos. The good sources for the film I searched far and wide. The Mark 4 uncompressed can be found on Garrett's forum, though it's best not to give him clicks. The HD Reels used to be on Depositfiles when he was making the Mark 4, but were later removed. The VHS Workprint was originally on his Vimeo account, but his account was terminated. Most of the stuff I've said is on my Google Drive. And thank you.
Do you mind if I use your remastered workprint as a base if I made edits myself? Of course credit would be given if needed. I thought before of using Mk 4 as a source but despite trying to resemble the original version, it does use many Calvert animations, which I kind of not like. There are also blurry pencil tests of Zigzag trying to attack Tack on the horse but looking at the storyboard, i'm not sure if those are original or Calvert animations. I also found a video of the KA Reels (what does KA stand for?) edited to be as a workprint, which has a few unused animations I found interesting, so i might use that. I found a supposed script from 1990 at a site called Orangecow, is it legit? Anyways, i'm sorry if i ask many questions, i just want know things well.
@@al3x2706 Go ahead. I don't mind. Credit of course. The pencil test of Zigzag charging at Tack is unknown who did it. There's a slightly better quality of it in the 1st Calvert Workprint (Early Calvert Workprint, people call it). Don't remember. The KA might be someone's initials who saved the reels from the trash bin. The 1990 script is legit, there's more than that. There's the 1989 script, 'The Thief Who Never Gave Up' script, and 'The Majestic Fool' script.
@@Josh366lol2 Thanks. Can you share what you've got on your Drive? If not, that's ok. What do you mean by "Uncompressed Mk4"? Where do the "This is the first caravan in 30 years" and the "Attack to the sound of the trumpets" storyboards, pencil tests and audio come from? (I also thougt that taking stuff directly from Mk 4, somebody else's edit, wouldn't be nice and rather scummy, so i would prefer to remake scenes from scratch to avoid problems) Are the credits on Mk 4 accurate? Or is there a better list of people who worked on the film? Where can i find the other scripts? Any links? Thanks again for answering.
@@al3x2706 I can share via Google Drive. The extra audio of the Brigands came from a separate VHS tape with its own pencil tests and storyboards. 99% accurate of the credits. It was made before the reveal of the actual voices of Yum-Yum and the Mighty One-Eye. I can share the scripts from Google Drive.
7:21-7:38 I presume that Kathleen Quaife animated the water fountain in this scene. 54:28 - 54:44 and 55:22-55:26 I assume Quaife animated the Witch's smoke trails.

@@greedysmile9229 I stopped doing comparisons a long time ago. They all get dated whenever I discover dubs nobody knew (like the Greek dub). And I lost interest making them.

Hi, i've been looking at your videos and edits for some time, it seems that you know this film well, so i have a couple of questions:
How do you do your edits?, what programs or tools do you use?

Thanks.
Can you share what you've got on your Drive? If not, that's ok.
What do you mean by "Uncompressed Mk4"?
Where do the "This is the first caravan in 30 years" and the "Attack to the sound of the trumpets" storyboards, pencil tests and audio come from? (I also thougt that taking stuff directly from Mk 4, somebody else's edit, wouldn't be nice and rather scummy, so i would prefer to remake scenes from scratch to avoid problems)
Are the credits on Mk 4 accurate? Or is there a better list of people who worked on the film?
Where can i find the other scripts? Any links?
Thanks again for answering.
@@al3x2706 I can share via Google Drive.
The extra audio of the Brigands came from a separate VHS tape with its own pencil tests and storyboards.
99% accurate of the credits. It was made before the reveal of the actual voices of Yum-Yum and the Mighty One-Eye.
I can share the scripts from Google Drive.
IN LOVE 😍 AND CURSH 😍😍
1:01:14 wait the thief is PREGNANT!?
They didn't even bother to make new animation for the thief speaking.
Wait Phido's voice actor is Eric Bogosian?
What year did this come out in?
Correct version: 1995!
7:21-7:38 I presume that Kathleen Quaife animated the water fountain in this scene.
54:28 - 54:44 and 55:22-55:26 I assume Quaife animated the Witch's smoke trails.

Can you do a remaster of the earlier calvert workprint?
Currently in development still.
@@Josh366lol2 ok, well can you do a comparsion of zigzag's plan (not the pencil test) from the original workprint to the recobbled cut (including different lauagages) 👍
@@greedysmile9229 I stopped doing comparisons a long time ago. They all get dated whenever I discover dubs nobody knew (like the Greek dub). And I lost interest making them.
Ok. I understand.
Can you do a remaster of the special delievy promo for raggady ann and andy?
That girl on the right in the thumbnail looks like Malva. Or am I just weird?

Movie is actually called the cobbler and the thief NOT Arabian knight
The Thief and the Cobbler, it was called, 'Arabian Knight' when it was in theaters.
What's the difference between this version and the original??
What?
@@Josh366lol2 I meant the original version of The Thief and the Cobbler.

Can you do a remastered of the calvert end credits?
It would be impossible because one scene is not in any version whatsoever.
@@Josh366lol2 Ok can you do a comparison of the chase scene and do a remaster of the special delivery raggedy ann and andy promo?
@@greedysmile9229 I've already did the chase scene comparison. I did that under sound effects comparison.

I tried watching the other version I kept falling asleep. Yeah the animation is gorgeous but the story wasn’t doing anything for me… I’m probably the odd ball here 🤷🏼♀️. I could do without all the singing though, was never a fan of that lol
